Institute of Professional Studies Closed Down

Students of the Institute of Professional Studies, IPS, have been given up to 6 pm on Tuesday to leave the school’s premises. Reports reaching a local radio station, JOY FM, indicates the authorities of the school have closed down the school following the destruction of school property on Monday night.

The students embarked on a demonstration at the Legon Hospital on Monday morning, to protest the death of their colleague at the hospital – but it is not clear if last night’s rampage by the students was due to the death of the student.

The students had accused the Legon Hospital authorities of negligence of duty that led to the death of their colleague. About 30 Police personnel are on campus to ensure that the students comply with the order.

A student of the institute, Charles Annan, told JOYFM that a few students went on rampage on Monday night, but the situation was normalized, after police personnel were called in to restore order. However, the school authorities, on Tuesday morning issued an ultimatum to the students to leave the school.

Most of the students, who were disturbed, ignored the directive, forcing the school authorities to bring in the police to ensure that they comply with the order.
