WASTE OF HUMAN RESOURCE BY PRES MAHAMA LED ADMINISTRATION
It has been a common sight to find very healthy young men crowd up at Betting Centers during European matches. This situation occurs sometimes during working hours. These young men are human resources who should be engaged in worthy and more productive work to help increase the GDP of the nation. Their works should also be earning some income by way of taxes for the country. But unfortunately all these opportunities are being wasted due to the clueless management by the Mahama led administration.
What does it take to ensure that young men and women are gainfully employed by the private sector? It is known over the years that the public sector has been systematically pruned down and the alternative is to create more openings in the private sector to absorb the ever increasing youthful population of the country. Instead of engaging in actions that will expand the private sector, the Government has been wickedly engaged in killing the sector instead. They are doing this to suffocate their opponents for power in spite of the harm it is causing the people of Ghana. Ghanaians should not take any excuse from Government seriously because actions speak louder than words. Having been exposed they will do everything to assuage the minds of the people. They have made the wealth they need to make; it is time for elections so they must try to find some excuse to enable them keep their position.
What has been the priority of Government? They claim that the way to create employment is to construct roads, schools and hospitals and through the National Youth Employment Modules. To them it is important to do this than to ensure for instance the regular supply of power and at reasonable cost for the private sector to expand. The simple reason why their choice is important to them is to enable them engage in corruption through inflating the cost of projects. This is what makes them rich; if the rest of the country will be poor, it is fine. In the advanced economies creation of job has been best handled by the private sector. The Constitution provides the Liberty for each and every citizen to pursue his dreams an aspirations and not limit them to the jobs Government desire. And this is made possible by the private sector and the enabling environment created by Government. Usually Government exploits areas where the private sector is not willing or incapable of pursuing like recruitment into the security services.
One interesting observation I have made recently is that the European football season has ended so betting has ended for these young men. This kind of job is what Government prides itself to have created? Betting is like construction works which is seasonal, the moment a certain aspect of the job is completed, there is no employment for those engaged in that aspect. These people will have to wait until a similar type of job comes up again. Government keeps counting all these as jobs they have created when even it is the same individuals who are being recycled.
Jobs provided by the private sector are usually on going concern basis. Jobs like manufacturing, banking services, commerce continue into the foreseeable future and are substantially different from Betting. These are the decent jobs which our young men and women need. And this is the type of job Nana Addo has been talking about. Ghanaians, you have a better choice to make which is significantly better than what have been given to you for the past four years.
Recently in the graduation of skill and vocational trainees in the Central Region, the Vice President acknowledged that sustainable jobs will be provided by this type of training. This is the way to go but it has come quite late. The President on the other hand has been talking about jobs created in the construction sector. They know the truth but they will always throw dust into the eyes of unsuspecting people. But some of us will hence ensure that these parochial acts are exposed, no matter who is in government.
