One wonders (1) the type of database the EC uses and (2) how the database was built(created). An RDBMS database must have criteria to capture various information about an individual. If such was the case, the talk about names of people who registered with NHIS having been deleted from EC's database or any other information the Supreme Court is requesting being non existent, would not arise.

Assuming that was the case, redo logs could be used to recapture the deleted information IF it was captured in the first place.
Then a simple subquery with some parameters will produce all the information the Supreme Court is asking. There will be NO NEED to manually go through all the registered names. I wonder who manages the database at the EC

The Law requesting the Electoral Commission to use the NHIS card holders for registration was passed by our PARLIAMENT. Parliament is the law making body for all laws outside the constitution. Laws make do not take effect retrospectively, which means laws cannot be made to-day to take effect yesterday. Our laws are forward looking but not back-ward looking. What the Supreme Court tends to do is unconstitutional and void. The made the law in the Abu Ramadan case in 2014 and requested that it should take effect from 2012! The Judges also through their judgements also make laws but their primary duty is the interpretation of the laws already made. According to the hierarchy of lawmaking and their prominence, Laws made by Parliament supersede those of the courts.What the Law Lords should now do is to let 'sleeping dogs lie' and ask that the NHIS cards should henceforth not be used for registration after the 2016 elections. The Supreme Court with their judgement should not plunge our dear country into trouble come election date on 07 November 2016.

In the case of Ghana, unfortunately our constitution is flawed. The leadership should muster courage and integrity to right the wrong of the system. Otherwise the country will pay dearly. Let's take cue from Kenya. Their Supreme court once made a mistake, after a general election, by not taking hold of the situation before inauguration and witnessed one of the worse violence that drew Kofi Annan and others to bring calm to the country. What has the EC been doing these 2 years.The supreme court did not just wake up one day and begin to order the EC about, a case was presented to them by someone who felt aggrieved and they have ruled, what is wrong with this. When there are serious issues to be tackled others see rebranding as more important. . I weep for my beloved country

Justice Dotse has earned my utmost respect as a jurist who is faithful to the ethical canons which govern the judiciary. He has sua sponte (on his own election) recused himself from the election case to foreclose any appearance of partiality or predetermination of his stance on the case based on the raucous following his comments on the meaning of the court's ruling on the case. It evidences his respect for the noble institution he is a member of his and his unwillingness to bring that institution and its rulings in disrepute.
What a refreshing difference !

Compare his actions to Atuguba. This corrupt and egotistical buffoon went berserk when his impartiality was questioned because his nephew worked as a Special Assistant to Mahama. He refused to take himself of the case when any well meaning and ethical judge would have because of the appearance of impropriety that his relationship with his nephew would create. Not to mention, he maintained ex parte communication with his nephew during the entire trial.
This singular dereliction in my estimation brought a cloud on the court's decision as many would assume Mahama already had one vote in the bag before the proceedings even commenced.
And yet still he is still on the court and had the audacity to talk about ethics to a group of lawyers recently. He should hang his head in shame for bringing shame and dishonor to the august institution. He is everything that Dotse is not: unprincipled, dishonest, Unethical, a thief, a gangsta, a moron, a intellectual imbecile and a coward for running away to Dallas right after he read the bought and paid for verdict.
You deserved to be named after Afua's dog even though I think you are worse than a dog, a pig maybe. May you choke on the money you received to throw the case!

Fact is the ec assured the sc that they can identify those who registered with nhis cards. By the end of the 29th of June we shall find out whether that's true or not.
Information from the ballot box like you said wouldn't tell us anything. Not even the name of the voter. It would only tell us who they voted but that's not relevant for this exercise

The Supreme Court indeed as the EC during proceedings in the matter if they could identify those who used the NHIS cards to register and they consulted with their lawyer for a while and asserted in the affirmative so in the final ruling the simply ask the to comply with the order knowing it was possible.The EC boss was a wrong choice for this job if not for hidden reasons by the appointmenting body John Mahama and the NDC,what this woman should've done right after taking over from Afari Gyan was to compile a new voters register to avoid all this embarrassment.The EC,s credibility had gone soo bad after the 2012 elections so much such that only a fresh register could repair it,the Supreme Court which presidered over the case also knew very well all the challenges that characterized the elections and should've added in the ruling that the register be replaced,foresight is the key word here,we don't think,we always behave like the ostrich.Now that a lot of money has been sunk in this useless election venture what's the EC going to do?we can not go on like this as a country.The EC boss right from day one has refused to listen to wisdom,she allow the NDC elements to determine what's right for us,since she took office there ve never been an issue they disagree with as far as the EC is concern,not only that they do PR for the EC better than them,she feels so answerable to the NDC than nation Ghana.We should take steps to take away the powers to appoint the EC boss from the president because a lot went on before her appointment,her behaviour confirms the believe that she there to certify the ruling government.

Is he saying that the files containing the names of those who registered with the NHIS cards have been destroyed? And further that they can be found in the ballot boxes, and that the information can be compiled by opening the ballot boxes and checking the ballot papers to obtain the names of those who registered with the cards? Do the ballot papers have the names of voters on them? I really do not understand. He claims he worked at the EC. so he must be able to explain.

If I go to register with my NHIS card doesn't the EC official ask me who my parents are and where I was born and come from, is that not a form of identification. This country! OK I don't remember which card I used to register. I did my when I was in school Tech and currently I am base up north working. I leave in obuasi and I am from the central region. Assuming my name is deleted because I was not able to come down during the exhibition process to verify my name. Is the EC going to send me a text message to inform me that I am deleted assuming I used the NHIS card?Assuming I want to register at Obuasi or Kumasi does that mean I should travel all the way down south to register and go back? Well,
you might say it my civic duty. No problem who is responsible for my life if anything happens to me. OK let say one day we get an EC whose morals are stewed and he decided that a week to elections people from this place I don't like them and the key word is some and their names are removed from the register. Is the SC not imputting powers on the EC which is dangerous for all of us? Is the SC saying that the EC has the right to disenfranchise me even though I am a Ghanaian legal and my rights to vote are enshrined in the Constitution. Well let me think as a Ghanaian because we do that a lot. What the SC is telling us is that laws has a retrospective effects. So tomorrow they can put me in jail for writing this piece even though today is legal and tomorrow it might not because they say so. Wow that is why we hardly win any international cases. Bravo keep setting bad precedence, we leave to see. Hey if some people want to bring violence don't use that to send all of us to jail tomorrow. What is sacred in democracy is the right to vote, not the rule of law or free of association etc. In fact all other rights are supposed to be tolerated by all governance systems some just refuse to do that.

The great effort of Let My Vote Count Movement Alliance(?) will then come to fruition after all! The EC is clearly in a critically tight corner with an impossibly narrow window for escape. Even the commonest act of escape, ARSON, will still open the door wider for compilation of a new Register. All this and if, only IF the EC had not remained adamant in retaining the current spurious Register but heeded level headed calls for a Fresh Register! Playing tough against good counsel has never done anyone good.
