Nkrumah was such a brutal and murderous dictator that he never had a Vice President; the only President in the world without a Vice. He made himself President for life and life imprisonment and torture to death for his opponents at Nsawam Prison.
After killing all his opponents in prison, his own CPP men led by Tawiah Adamafio tried to kill him at Kulungugu. Nkrumah poluted the brains of our children through his obnoxious Young Pioneers and nkrumaism became a religion in our schools.
The best thing that has ever happened to Ghaha was the overthrow of evil and megalomaniac Nkrumah

So, what has PPP done so far on Corruption? We don't see Nduom put his money where his mouth is, other than just seeking for his personal, egoistic dream of becoming the next President of Ghana, just like Akufo-Addo.
The chaos in the CPP is more personal ego clashing than anything else. Folks like you could not see how a young Lady like Samia could suddenly show up to claim any perceived legacy of his father's to lead the Party while you are the ones who probably kept the torch of the Party lit in the dark days after the overthrow of the first Republic.
Surely, being rigidly ideological is not wholesome for any Political Party, the core goals of every Party when abandoned turns into something else altogether. That is why the NPP has succeeded to thrive better than the CPP.
But even so, it takes true selflessness of the leaders of a Party to champion any laudable goal of the Party throughout its history.
The CPP has not done well mostly because the younger generation has refused to align with it for all its image of Communism and tyranny, something the Nylanders, Nduoms, Greenstreets and others could not adequately erase.
Many keen political observers have suggested the Party changed its name and allow its goals to evolve to accommodate the aspirations of the newer generations who have come to love democracy in its real sense, and cherish individual freedoms that allow for each person to pursue their success and enjoy the rewards therefrom in Peace.
Ever since the first Coup in Ghana, the UP/NLM folks never went back to take the name UP or NLM for the same reasons indicated and have done much better as a result.
The PNP of Dr. Liman's era benefited from that name dissociation from CPP, even as its membership was mostly from the old CPP. Other factors also helped Dr. Liman to win. But had he chosen the name CPP then, he would have lost badly, I believe.
And if Nduom wasn't engrossed in his own selfish political ambition, why would he not just form the PPP and remove himself from the Flagbearership to make enough room for other qualified Politicians to campaign on the Party's platform for the Presidency? The Primaries of the PPP was only a window-dressing of some presumed democratic process. Nduom would never have accepted anyone else as the PPP's Flagbearer. He formed the Party. So, he had to be its Presidential candidate. J. J. did similarly with the NDC, and I abhorred him for that. But in his case, the popularity of the AFRC is stuck with him to last that far. Not any of J. J.'s PNDC performance could have singularly carried the day for him. He had his reputation from the AFRC era keeping him buoyant.
Until we have truly selfless leadership we cannot ever suppress Corruption in Ghanaian Politics and Social life.
Long Live Ghana!!!

Hmmmm, I believe after the 1966 Coup, the CPP was banned from participating in Elections and this ban was still in place when the PNP fought & won their Election. The electorate was aware that former CPP Ministers of State, such as the late Krobo Edusei, occupied Senior positions within the PNP, and they still won the Election and therefore, how did the name of CPP, act as a hindrance to winning the Election?

Sorry to say, your name sake, Kwabena Yeboah, was asking the other day why the CPP is still in tatters. We are guessing he forgot, did not have a clue about the fact, or did not give a damn, that "...the CPP was banned from participating in Elections and this ban was still in place when the PNP fought & won...".
Banned, practically during the lifetime of an entire generation!
As Eric Bawah reported in 2013, "...For 22 years, the CPP was banned until its off-shoot, the Peoples National Party (PNP) led by Dr. Hilla Limann came to power in 1979 to continue the good works of the CPP..."
We know the end of that story, don't we?
Greetings!

Yaw, I think the ban got lifted off CPP when J. J.'s AFRC came around. If you remember, that ban was not only on the Party per se, but also on all the Party's leaders.
So, if you concede Krobo Edusei and others were active in the PNP to help it win the Elections, that was because they had been freed from that ban when the Third Republic emerged.
Nevertheless, I meant to reiterate the significance a name bears in circumstances like this. What is in a name? An old adage questions. While we may see it as just a nuance with little to no impact on people's perception on an entity, it has been established that practically, folks tend to shy away from names that has some taint attached, even if erroneously.
In this case, the UP/NLM propaganda machine had done a huge job, with the help of international anti-Nkrumah agencies like the CIA to slap a hard-to-erase blemish on the CPP. Their claim of the CPP being a Communist/Socialist group and led by Nkrumah who they had dubbed as a dictator still rings unattractively in the ears of many of the newer generations.
Such damage reputation takes time to heal. But some folks do not want to take chances, and others would like to avoid any perceived laying-in-bed with entities of such hurt reputation.
Had the PNP lived long enough to harp on the virtues of Nkrumah and the CPP when the former came to Power under Dr. Liman, the fate of the CPP could have turned around quicker, and by now.
Meanwhile, as I indicated elsewhere, the UP/NLM having their own boogie, or hunch-back to carry with hurtful images of being a murderous, bomb-throwing Party, rightly chose to use a different name to, at least, give the semblance of a different Party altogether, only sharing some of the virtues of the UP/NLM.
So, there is a different perception of a Party that has been reportedly breached Human Rights, and another that claim to only share the best in that Party.
That is why I hoped the CPP could do better with an new name than the its old, tainted name in Elections.
Long Live Ghana!!!

Looks like our understanding of "corruption" is dramatically different from Mr. Nylander's.
More important, if we remember correctly, fighting "CORRUPTION" was never a major policy plank of the PPP during the last election.
In fact, CORRUPTION was not a major policy plank for Nduom in 2008.
So, even today, Nylander cannot make the case that fighting "CORRUPTION" is a major policy plank of Nduom's PPP.
Case in point: The Fair-Trade Oil Share Ghana (FTOS-Gh) Campaign has on numerous occasion invited Dr. Nduom and his PPP (including all the other parties) to help Ghana stop the $6 billion bleed of oil revenues. We've given them papers and answered all their questions. Corruption is the foundation of that so-called "Ghana Hybrid Oil System that Mr. Mahama and Speaker Doe-Adjaho are championing.
The PPP has not bothered with this, the most significant fraud (eh, CORRUPTION), on Ghanaians.
So, Nylander, come again!
But first, recall in part what we said to none other than Dr. Nduom, in 2008
"...ITEM: All that talk by Mr. Nduom may not mean a thing. It may not inspire millions to support or vote for the CPP unless there is a compelling message at bottom that addresses the historic reality of corruption and the “perception of corruption” in Ghana. That is the biggest negative with the current administration, in addition to lack of transparency. Mr. Nduom was part of the NPP administration. Perhaps he was too busy fixing things to talk about “corruption and the ‘perception of corruption’.” Mr. Nduom must now provide a loophole-proof, multi-faceted plan to deal with all that public mess and thrash...."
