Same logic they used to shave all the young Ghanaian School age girls. Now they are no smarter or less smarter than their moms of the 60's, 70's and 80's, but even worrying is that they are not smarter than foreign girls who by virtue of being privileged do not have to shave all their hair.
We never want to teach our kids responsibility and it's accompanying consequences, we always want to dictate to them how life has to be lead, hence when they grow up, as refined as they look, they think just like their primitive ancestors. Leave them alone to flourish and explore life like WHITE KIDS do. Let them have their 21st century technology like their counterparts abroad, and set the rules of carrying them on school compounds period. You break the rule you loose the privilege. Why should all kids be subjected to primitive ideas because of a few or other kids irresponsible life. After all cell phones are not weapons and need not be band, because some village school teacher of the Ministry jealous of what they and they kids do not have want to suppress the progress of privileged kids. Secondly, in this modern society, it is a necessity. I remember how smooth and beatiful life was back in the 60's, 70's and 80's, when all we had was a house phone which had limited use for everyone, yet when we were on vacation, we never missed hooking up and hanging out with all our friends from one end of Accra to the other. Today, I cannot survive without air, water, toilet roll, tooth paste, WiFi, cellphone, cable TV...then I have to think about rice, yam and plantain.

How many of you turn off your phones, at filing stations and other such places where you need to? Let's save our teachers from turning into phone police. Simply no phones for pupils and SHS students.

Would not work. You cannot ban mobile phone, day and age. You are just trying to create another illegality to put people into prisons and trouble. Do not put any silly coy that cannot be defeated.

Children do not get creative with their phone instead they just chatter with there friends and family and disturb lessons. Creativity should be teacher led and carried out on computers.

Banning mobile phones from Primary and Secondary schools in Ghana, is like saying "I used Multiplication tables and Slide rules in my time but you should desist from using Mobile phones in your time". Or "Abstain from sex but use condom". Or "We are in a global village and Ghana's ICT4AD & ICT4E policies encourage the deployment of ICT into the education system at all levels in order for Ghana to also become a Knowledge Society but I forbid all you children from Mobile phone use in school". I think the one coming out with the ban knows Mobile phone use for only making & receiving calls, sending & receiving messages, chatting and browsing. Basic uses of the mobile phones extend beyond that and it is better to encourage children to use mobile phone in schools so that their teachers can capitalize on that and in collaboration with their students

I view this whole ban of mobile phones in schools as too shameful for a so-called Lower middle income country. It is like saying "You guys, I'm deploying ICT to your schools - Primary, JHS and SHS levels, but don't use ICT. Or "Abstain from sex but use conform". Or "We are in a global village but don't use the technology that comes with it". Or "I used Multiplication Tables and Slide rules in school in the olden days but children of today should not use Mobile phones in school". Why will children not spend the whole night on mobile phones if they have been banned from using it during the day? Why don't we rather allow children in collaboration with their teachers capitalize on the positives of the mobile phone to facilitate teaching and learning. There are several schools without adequate number of textbooks. Can't children be encouraged in this 21st Century to do their own research on key issues on lesson topics on the mobile phones, in groups under the teacher's guidance, and do presentations in class for the teacher to moderate instead of the teacher turning him/herself into a student to be burning the candle light? Or do we want our children to develop their talents, competencies, critical thinking and problem-solving and research skills, only at the tertiary level of education? What are we talking about? Most public school classrooms in the country are still operating 19th Century pedagogy on 21st Century children who are digital natives by virtue of the gadgets they have come to meet. Instead of sitting down to brainstorm with all stakeholders on how the tool is being put to good use in other African primary and secondary schools to promote their learning, (and they are getting good results), a ban is rather placed on a precious learning tool like the mobile phone. Come again, Mr DG!!!!
