Mr. Dapaah, do you know that businesses can NOT run on cell phone that land line is the backbone of major businesses?
If it the best thing happened to Ghana, then why Ethiopian had refused to sell theirs with argument that the state needs the huge profit in telecom to expand rural telecommunication which the private sector is not interested in.
The Private telecom sector is NOT growing the technology by reinvesting as they need the profit for their shareholders in European countries.

President Mahama today said the sale of Ghana Telecom has proved to be a very good decision. Not only has it created other companies like MTN and others, it has created thousands of jobs.
Now where is Kwesi Pratt, the Communist thug who lives like a Sheik and pretending to believe in Socialist nonsense.

Hell, no! Not with our Fiber Optics Infrastructure!! The deal that was reported to have been hacked and consumed behind closed doors between only the then President and Vodafone would have been okay had it only sold off Ghana Telecom without the Fiber Optics.
Our Fiber Optics should have remained an inalienable State Asset that could only be leased to the Communication Companies. We would be making enormous stream of revenues from them in perpetuity.
So, Kan Dapaah should stop bamboozling us with that self-serving claim.
Nothing differently amazing came out of the deal. It was the same sell-off of Ghana's best Assets for cheap to Foreign entities with possible kick-backs to the deal makers.
Many believe that Ghana Telecom sell-off to the Brits is why President Kufuor was honored with British Knighthood. The same folks also believe that Sam Jonah earned his British Knighthood similarly, after helping to sell-off most of Oboasi Gold Mines to the British Mineral Firm in South Africa.
Kan should not rub pepper in our wounds that he and his cohorts inflicted upon us.
Long Live Ghana!!!

PC Appiah Ofori told lies. When he was invited to testify at the committee, he couldn't prove anything. Let's get serious as a country. The committee itself did not uncover any wrong doing. The then Communication Minister Haruna Iddrisu, to cover the NDC government's shame, said that they will re-engage with Vodafone. Whatever that meant, only the NDC can answer. If you disagree with the sale, then provide superior arguments to the NPP govt wrong. I think the unnecessary allegations are childish and irresponsible.

I share your views to some extent, but I also think they are a bit simplistic. Do you know the state Ghana Telecom was at the time? It was running at a huge loss. Just as every well-meaning Ghanaian would love to see Ghanaians manage our national assets, the painful reality is that if it had not been sold, the Ghana Telecom would have gone down the drain with nothing left for Ghana. For me, I think it was a good deal. My only disappointment was the inclusion of the optic fibre in the deal.

Kan Dapaah, whose assertion is correct. Former President Kufour on two occasions on TV told us that Ghana Telecom was forcibly sold to Vodafone because of massive fraudulent activities by GT top Management, the Board Chairman and the Norwegians.Mr. Dickson Oduro-Nyaning, the then Deputy Managing Director, the Board Chairman, Nana Antwi Boasiako, the Chief of Sekyedumasi, teamed up with the Norwegians who were then managing Ghana Telecom and illegally repatriated huge sums of monies from GT accounts held in Ghana and overseas to Telenor, the company managing GT. They were stealing about U$1 million monthly. When president Kufour was informed about the deal, he quickly sacked the Norwegians in December 2006. Of course Kufour who was also corrupt himself did not sack Oduro-Nyaning and Nana Antwi Boasiako because they were all ASHANTIS! When late President Mills assumed office, he constituted a MINISTERIAL COMMITTEE to look into the affairs of GT and Telenor. The Committee was headed by a former Appeal Court Judge, Justice Acquaye which discovered fraudulent activities perpetrated by the GT management at that time. KAN DAPAAH, please that report is still available at the ministry of communications. When Mr. Oduro Nyaning was invited to the Committee to give evidence, he engaged a Lawyer, Mr. Atta Akyea who wrote to the Committee that Mr. Oduro Nyaning would be incriminating himself and therefore refused to appear before the committee. The whole report and it's appendixes showing the bank statement from where the monies were transferred are attached to the report. President Mills at that time as usual (give it to God) refused to prosecute the GT officials. So, again Mr. Kan Dapaah, who is telling the truth, you or Kufour? The irony of the whole transaction is that all the GT workers have now been sacked by Vodafone and replaced with foreign staff, with transfers from various countries into the company, because Vodafone is an International Company. In fact Vodafone did the right thing because most of the 4,200 workers were also massively corrupt apparently having learned from Top Management. So in conclusion, GT was sold only because of the fraudulent activities of three (3) individuals at GT.

It will be wrong to compare the sale of Telecom to a sale of ECG. Mind your while telephone is important, the whole Ghana population life do not depend on it. One can do without a phone but in case of electricity every human being in Ghana needs it so as water. As such no country in it's rightful mind will depose water or electricity to a foreigner to control. Millions of Ghanaians will be affect with any slightness change in electricity difficulties. It is not life and death to have a phone but it is life and death to have light and water specially in the big cities. So the government should not play with the life of Ghanaians. How much money will be enough for the ruling government to steal before "ENOUGH WILL BE ENOUGH"?
