it is said that for lack of knowledge my people perish. Ghanaians really need to be schooled, how can the closure of social media help NDC retain power. Mahama is not as desperate as Nana Addo because he knows he has worked very hard for this country to get the good people vote for him. The construction of 2 350 MW coal-fired plants to be sited at Aboano in the Ekumfi district of the central region will strengthen the country’s base load of power and forestall any future shortage of power when existing plants are due for maintenance

I do agree with you. Even in the developed or advanced countries there are mechanisms in place that monitors and regulates the social media. In essence, if any activities are perceived to be a threat to national security, it's either removed or blocked. For example, Press TV( an Iran based media operative ) contents and operations in UK and the USA has been removed; as it's argued and justified by the regulatory body or authority in UK ( Ofom) to be a classified threat and distasteful .Additionally, persons found to be posting false information or any incitement are dealt with by the law enforcement agencies ( police ). Therefore, it is not a roller coaster as others might speculate, moreover , these academics are expected to understand better and help build a young democracy ,such as Ghana. As in Ghana we do not have such mechanism with our failed and doomed institutions embedded with and characterised by the culture of corruption from individual level to organisational level . Please let's cherish and enjoy the peace and tranquillity that we currently experiencing. However, we may choose to experience the consequence of war if we so wish with our political partisanship rather than being objective.
God bless Ghana for we have no place but Ghana.

There are some false equivalences going on here:
Social Media = War
Ban on Social Media = Peace.
This is deceiving people who don't think very deeply. These equivalencies are false. Don't fall for it. In 2008 and 2012, we had peaceful elections with social media. There is no reason why we can't have peaceful elections with social media in 2016.
Think about all the good that social media can do on election day. The police can't be everywhere at once but with social media, Ghanaians can quickly alert them of any issues that might start so that they can nip it in the bud.
A ban on social media could lead to disturbances in the aftermath of the election. Take the scenario that Mahama is reelected. Look at how Akuffo-Addo refused to accept the 2012 results even with social media. If social media is banned, don't you think that will give him cause to say that under the cover of reduced communication, NDC stuffed ballot boxes and stole the election?
If 3 million NPP supporters get onto the streets, the police and the army cannot stop them.
So let's keep social media on, then if anyone loses they can't cry rigging if even their supporters didn't see anything.
I know that the NDC government is hot and the criticism that they are receiving on social media is making their bodies burn so they want it shut off for a little respite. But if you want to be in power, you must accept the good, the bad and the ugly that comes with it.
For instance, Allotey Jacobs was able to fly first class to the US. He wouldn't have been able to do that if NDC wasn't in power. That is the good. The bad is that Hopeson Adorye said on facebook that he was arrested at Heathrow for money laundering. You want to enjoy first class? Be prepared to enjoy the rumors too.
I haven't flown first class anywhere on the government's dime and no one is spreading rumors about me.
It comes with the territory.

The IGP should rather create a social media account for the public, so that people could send them any irregularities they see as evidence. Unfortunately, I don't think he is ready to deal with the rigging NDC is planning, hence he would rather shut it down to favour them. NDC knew this so they have already purchased communication devices for their agents. How can you the IGP convince me that this is in the interest of the nation and not the NDC?

The Ghana Police Service should not be used by criticism-averse politicians to block access to online social media werbsites for any reason.
Nothing can justify such a move. It will be an exercise in futility - as many Ghanaians will use VPNs to get access to social media platforms, should the Ghana Police Service be so unwise as to take such a step.
