Which of the social media are u blocking?? Whatever can not go through facebook/twitter (which is what i suppose he means) can circulate through regular text message.

Why not rather spend time and brain activity to find out how you can use this same medium to promote peace, transparency and solve some of the logistical concerns that might arise.

In other words, somebody (the law through the judiciary) can and will stop him from doing so.

Yes you are a security man and as such it is duty but you should have also kept this option close to your chest till you need to implement it on the D-Day if needed. Now you have heightened tension and people are already making alternative plans. You Have failed this, IGP. Secondly, you/peace council/churches/schools/mosques etc should start a campaign on responsible behavior and how the wrong thing can escalate the situation further. Lets remind each other of our neighboring country and the effect of violence/war. It is not worth it to kill or killed for someone looking for a job which you will end up paying them with our tax money. A word to the wise...

The head of the Ministry he works in can fire him. The president of Ghana can fire him. The people of Ghana can fire him though indirectly. So he is not an all in all power in the police force as he thinks.

As a concerned Ghanaian I dont think he has the qualities to be the head of the Police force when there is so much tension in the country.

He should therefore do the honourable thing and resign as IGP. If he does not resign mahama should fire him - or thinking and gloating that he is bigger than the person who appointed him. His stance does not augur well for peace in the country.

Our national politics has been reduced to another battleground for ethnocentricity and hatred. Many political commentators do not understand, or worse, choose not to understand, the meaning of national unity and objectivity. Naivety is equated to freshness. Abrasive and uncouth utterances are viewed as forthrightness. Ignorance is considered acceptable as long as we are deemed to be undermining the ‘enemy’. Respect and decency are thrown to the dogs and every issue is considered from the jaundiced lenses of politics. However politics shapes the destiny of the whole society therefore it should not be trivialised. The best decision is for the IGP to go to Court for such order before November 7. Ghana is retrogressing.

The IGP can check from Uganda, Iran and Syria. Ghana is not dictatorial as those countries why are we trying to destroy our good systems. Blocking social media is not the solution. The solution lies in modern methods of policing a state and not the old fashioned brutish police by force methods. The IGP should note that our constitution provides Rule of Law and freedom of expression. This is not an issue of NDC or NPP politics but one that noble men and women should resist. We will challenge it to the Supreme Court the IGP wont have his way. Except the Govt declares a state of emergency. All well meaning Ghanaians should resist this
brutish old fashioned dictatorial behaviour. Ghana has long past this stage. The IGP is sending us backwards. He does not deserve to be IGP his mentality is backward.

Ghana is in West Africa, Uganda is in central Africa. We had our INDEPENDENCE & FREEDOM from the British while Uganda was still struggling under colonialism by the same British. In fact Ghana helped Milton Obote's Uganda to attain independence.

Uganda has been ruled by one dictator after another and for anyone to cite Ugandan in any discussion about democracy is an insult. If any thing Ghana should be seeking to improve on its democratic credentials - not destroy the little it has. And banning socisl media putdvour democracy in the gutter.

Mr IGP I think you should resign for contemplating such an undemocratic and retrenchment. Ghana has better and more civilised policemen to handle usdues affecting our democracy.

Other stated reason was just for sake of the much needed security of the country. Unfortunately, IGP failed to admit that Ghana, a democratic country is not the same as Uganda. IGP also failed to understand that Ghana is far advanced in almost everything as compared to Uganda. As the IGP of the country it is an insult to compare Ghana to Uganda. Uganda looks to Ghana and not other way round. Next: IGP needs to think twice next time NDC government ask him to take a stupid, senseless, useless decision such as blocking social media during November 7 election. Yes, IGP has indeed failed the country. From all indications, he is not brave enough to say no to NDC government. Statement such as " nothing can stop me from blocking social media" is a complete directive from the NDC government. Yes, the NDC government made that known to him and it (NDC) was ready to back him up. This is the more reason why he was bold enough to make such a statement. As an ordinary Ghanaian we all know that such bold statement is only made with assurance from the above: the government. Either is by way of training or not I am yet to know. Ghana police force usually either during the court proceedings or in other settings turn to reveal the original source of information. Yes. IGP is busted. Poor oldman. A ban on FM Radio Stations not to announced on-going presidential results on the ground,in 2012 election.
Now,in the advent of widely used Soc Media means of Communication in the Country,the former Rig prone strategy put in place by Afari Gyan is defeated and therefore, is Obsolete and would not yield the expected results,unless it is revamped with the Closure or a ban on Social Media to maintain the Rig Strategy. Therefore, one could easily infer that the idea to ban Social Media on election day,is politically motivated and has nothing to do with Security,unless proved beyond any reasonable doubt,in my personal opinion.IGP is entitled to his opinion,though though!.So,not the lame excuse of Uganda, Museweri or whatever he calls himself whose ass(excuse my word) is glued to the Seat of govt!. Open societies are the ones that have permanent peace. As a security person you should use your position to advise the politicians to cooperate to build or strengthen institutions that will foster peace. In the background encourage better political leadership.
If you see your job as only to control explosions of violence, that disturbs the peace then think again.
You need the cooperation of citizens to succeed in your job,blacking their communications out will only make your job difficult.It will not work! Uganda is a dictatorship. Best pactices are in open societies, WE are not China or Russia or Cuba.
