Is the president saying he has not been aware that some consumers have been paying over 200% increase on electricity bills since December 2015? He prides himself that he has been able to ram his killer tarriffs down the throat of Ghanaians and companies, and he boasted that everything would normalize a few weeks after implementation. Now that he is feeling the heat of the people he is acting as if he has never heard of our complaints about electricity billing. I am a full blooded NDC party card bearing member but this robbery can't be condoned. I pay over GHC2,000 for electricity for a house occupied by a family of four. Does John Mahama want me to go ans steal like he and his brothers are doing to be able to pay my electricity bills? I have mentioned this to several top party members and no one seems to listen to me. The provision of electricity and water are supposed to make the lives of the people better and not to drive them into bankruptcy. People in gov't do not feel the heat because they enjoy everything from vehicle, telephones, electricity, internet, waster, accommodation and sometimes food for free. The infrastructural development does not mean anything if the people can't live to enjoy them. The ability to pay school fees have become the preserve of the rich in society. Where are our social democratic credentials that we previously boasted about? The few at the top of the party hierachy are enjoying and playing propaganda with the rest of us while we suffer the consequences of bad governance and thievery that our own people are perpetuating against us. Anybody who raises his finger against wrong doing in the country is branded a mole in the party. Not John is behaving as if he doesn't know anything about the high tariffs in the country. He thought by buying the TUC leadership to keep the labour front quiet, he had finished with the rest of the country. Even after these astronomical tariffs for water and electricity, we are still faced with DUMSOR. The chickens are now coming home to roost and we shall definitely lose power come November.

"But in a sharp rebuttal, the NPP MP for Atwima Mponua and member of the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, said the government after recalcitrantly imposing ‘killer’ taxes on electricity consumption, must not run away from the ripple effects.
According to Mr Asiamah, now that the government, after realising that its IMF policies to increase tariffs in readiness to privatise the ECG is having a telling effect on the people who are bitterly complaining about the sharp increases in electricity bills and have threatened to vote the government out of power, has resorted to its usual propaganda and has pushed the blame on the ECG.
He said President John Mahama had said on several platforms, including the floor of Parliament, that Ghanaians must now be ready to pay higher or realistic electricity tariffs to save the energy sector and went ahead to introduce the energy sector levy bill which the majority NDC in Parliament embraced and voted overwhelmingly for its passage, even when “we in the minority strongly spoke against it and said it will put more burden on Ghanaians and so why are the NDC MPs now crying wolf? They should stop shedding crocodile tears for suffering Ghanaians.”
Mr Asiamah stressed, “The president must be told to openly accept this blame and take full responsibility because it is his own policies in the energy sector which have brought us to this level.” He added that the president must not hide behind the majority in Parliament to continue to throw dust into the people’s eyes since Parliament is a place for records and that whoever comes to tell lies there would be exposed as has happened to the majority chief whip.
“The fact of the matter is that the government does not have money to buy crude oil to power our thermal plants and so it has to pass on the responsibility to consumers who are being unnecessarily taxed to pay high tariffs to enable the government buy crude to generate power,” he said, stressing that very soon many Ghanaians would not be able to afford the cost of electricity and the few companies left would suffer.
Meanwhile, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), under pressure yesterday, ordered the ECG to suspend its new software for billing customers, claiming that over-billing had been detected.

This shows that the complaints from the opposition parties concerning the software and the new meters were right. they complain the Government through the ECG is robbing Ghanaians but we had other people who insulted these opposition parties thinking they just don't like the government. Now we r all paying the price. No wonder ECG is always against the idea of the implementing of national usage of Solar power. May God help us.

All you are doing is just for public show . You are the very thief rubbing us. Your artificial dumsor end was just replaced by your definition of realistic bills. You will go big time like Jonathan.
I think the opposition leader mentioned utility bills over the week end and that is calling for apparent action from the executive. SHOULD EVERYTHING BE ABOUT ELECTION?
This is why opposition is so important. They must work very hard to keep the government in check.
NOTHING CAN SAVE THE NDC IN THIS YEAR'S ELECTIONS. THEY KNOW IT, THAT IS WHY THEY HAVE EMPLOYED THE SERVICES OF THIS DUBIOUS CHARLOTTE WOMAN. WHAT WILL THEY DO TO ALLOW US GET THE BILLIONS OF CEDIS WE HAVE PAID TO THE ECG ?. ...

Mr. Mahama, simply knock off sone of numerous taxes you have imposed on electricity consumption and the masses will be ok. Enery levy, street lights, VAT, rural electrification, etc are just too many.
At least this over billing problem has a technological solution.
This fool told Ghanaians to pay more for better service and he now finds it politically correct in an election year to call for crisis meeting because electricity bills are high. This is chicken shit.
All the over-billing issues have nothing to do with hardware or software; its' human corruption. ECG staff have installed meters for individuals, charged them tons of money into their private pockets and those monies have to ...
