In Finland, USA, UK, Canada etc, you will be required to pass an exam regardless of your major prior to teaching. It is part of job screening.
Exemptions are given only to those with prior education and teaching degree.
I am all for such an exam. We need to allow authorities to do their jobs instead of undermining them.

Thanks Gbormita.Ghanaians are really ignorant and are allowing political leanings to undermine whatever good work the government is doing.Take the nursing issue as an example. The government intends introducing job application for trained nurses and some Ghanaians are up in arms against it.In the UK,Canada, the US and some european countries nurses apply for jobs after their training.Even in such big economies with huge developed health sectors there is nothing like a job is there for student nurses when they complete their courses.Apart from trained teachers from teacher training colleges and universities there is nothing wrong with the GES using exams and interviews to recruit teachers.

@GHANANI you are wrong on two issues that you raised. First the Nurses who are trained by the public institutions are BONDED by the state so after completion you have to serve for a certain number of years before you can do your own stuff, that's why the state is obliged to employ them. One the new recruitment is opened to only those who are trained as graduate teacher from any of our education oriented universities. So they are already trained teachers but some might not have taught before so the test might be in the right direction but I still think the charge is just too much.

GES recruits teachers directly from the teacher training colleges who are already certified afrer paying n passing exam.
Others who have degrees are asked to pay less than Gh70 for the exams which are printed and supervised by human beings who ought to be paid.
It makes sense to pay just a little to get a job of your life.

This is the gospel truth. This system is not only a means of overburden unemployed graduates but a means informing Ghanaians that the government do not care. If somebody is not working where can he get this sum of money to pay for the examination fees? It is a means of further humiliating unemployed graduates and causing sorrows to their dear heart. It means go beg, borrow, patronize your parents to pay us; for us we do not care. What is very disheartening is that, paying the fee does not grant one the position. If this system is to continue, corrupt official in GES or other sectors will use same to exploit unemployed graduates and very soon the private institutions will follow this practice. This is call double “Wahala”
Please GES, Minister of Education and Mr. President this is too much for your people. It is not easy at all. You can do better. If this is the right thing to do then please, the government must absorb the cost; this is the least social intervention the government can adopt to help these helpless unemployed graduates

I really wonder how University graduates will in this modern world think government has so much vacancies lying there for graduates every year they come out of school. Where in the world do you have this? With over 70,000 students coming out of the tertiary institutions every year, how do you sit idly at home and expect government to provide you with employment. Yes a few will get employed by government, others by the private sector while majority will have to be innovative. That is the reality of our time. It happens everywhere, and Ghana is no exception. Only fools will listen to the deception of desperate politicians and blame Mahama. He has done his bit with the several infrastructural developments in health, education communication, agriculture and several other sectors which have engendered employment for some, and will continue to do so as more are completed. But the reality is that the numbers that come out of school will always far outstrip available Jobs in the public and private sectors. The earlier we accept the reality, the better it will be for our future as students instead of listening to, and believing in fanthom promises.

NDC government got its priorities wrong when they won power in 2012. How can a government concentrate on infrastructural development only and neglect the expansion of the macro sector of the economy? How many people are employed in the new infrastructure the government is boasting of? If expanding the macro economy had been top priority, the youth including the graduates would be employed in industries, education sector, agric etc etc They will then be able to pay tax as they will be earning income. Export too will increase saving more foreign revenue for that infrastructural development, and also reducing excessive government borowing and debt accumulation.
