How do you go and borrow money for 10.75% (US dollar) and give it to someone to lend it to you at over 20% (GHC)? In effect you are paying over 30%! Assuming stable exchange rates, Ghana will be paying additional interest of at least $50 million a year on this transaction. It really is reckless. The government is claiming that the funds were “idle”. Really? What does that mean? Why do you borrow funds and pay interest on it if you do not have use for them at the moment? It is clear that the GIIF does not have a portfolio of projects ready to invest in and it is weird to allocate a whopping sum of $250 million to them at this time. Is the Minister aware that the country owes N-Gas some $100 million? What about other contractors who are owed money by the government? How can you owe so much, have so much to do and yet claim to have “idle” borrowed funds? The allocation of such an amount to a private bank also has major macroeconomic consequences for a relatively small economy like Ghana. It increases the deposits of the banking system and ultimately the money supply. It has inflationary and exchange rate depreciation consequences and would make it more difficult for the government to meet its inflation target. I am surprised that the government is oblivious of these consequences. The Funds should stay at the Bank of Ghana. After all the Bank of Ghana, on its own or through its external fund managers of the caliber of internationally reputable banks like UBS, JP Morgan, Citibank, Merrill Lynch etc. can undertake whatever investment of the country’s foreign exchange that the government would like it to undertake

How on earth do you interpret this to be a contempt of court when she has vividly explained to the effect that, the courts decision has be misinterpreted by various actors to meet their parochial interests.

The court if you care to know, is an independent body and not an NDC machinery.

Instead of wasting your time disturbing the EC, better I advice you channel it into bettering the fortunes of your party in the 2016 General elections.

To my understanding, the court made it clear that the EC should delete the names of those who registered with the NHIS card because that is not enough proof of identification. What is too vague about this and why is the EC dragging its feet?

We should thank God for being here and as such acquiring some knowledge about certain things. When the Supreme court rules, I think it is final and if the EC is trying to dance around the ruling, people have the right to drag the EC back to the court. We shouldn't play with anything that will tarnish the image of our country and this is a case similar to that.

The EC should stop being petty and follow the Supreme court ruling else, contempt charges awaits her.

That ruling was a senseless ruling by the Supreme court,in the first place the case was to void the register and instead of ruling on that they chose to rule on something that was not the subject of litigation by those guys thus creating confusion.

The Supreme Court has not stuttered not even once on the specific issue of the NHIS cards and its eligibility to satisfy citizenship requirements as sufficient grounds to be registered per the bearer of the card.
In a previous ruling, the Supreme Court was emphatic the mandate of the NHIA in addressing the health needs of the populace, was not discriminatory as to who was eligible to be registered to access healthcare, since the provision of that service, was not subject to the citizenship status of any applicant, but for the mere fact they were within the jurisdiction of the country, and so the NHIS cards could not confer eligibility criteria sufficient to meet the requirements to be registered to vote.
If that was ambiguous and lacked clarity, it's second ruling and the most recent, cured that ambiguity when they ordered for the EC to expunge those names from the register and allow such individuals so affected, the opportunity to re-register again, the caveat being for the EC to re-register such individuals again with better particulars, without disenfranchising those who the ruling and order of the Supreme Court so affected.
The Supreme Court did not stutter, not once, not twice.
The opportunity for the Supreme Court to give true meaning to our democracy is now ripe and it must release the guillotine on the EC.

What the SC requires of the EC, not in its main ruling but side comment,:is to clean the voters register of ineligible names. However, the EC will be acting beyond her powers if she unilaterally deletes the names of people she considers ineligible. Our laws don't permit any authority to visit punitive action on someone without giving him/her a hearing. The EC can only clean the register by going through proper procedure.
The SC's main ruling was to say "no" to all the reliefs prayed for by the petitioners. The petitioners wanted the SC to declare the existing voters register null and void and order a new one to be compiled. The SC refused and in a side comment, entreated the EC to take necessary action to clean the register in accordance with the law. So from where comes the contempt charge against the EC? Indeed any fool can go to court.

Let me explain the common practice after a registration has been declared invalid going forward. Until the recent SC ruling, most people thought it was okay to register with NHIS card. The SC says that's wrong. If we didn't know before 2012, now we know it's wrong. A rational court ruling will invalidate the previous registration if it's going to be used in subsequent voting, especially if there's another opportunity to register the same people properly. Here, the court isn't invalidating the previous votes but preventing what was improper registration to be used again for future elections. This is COMMON SENSE! It tells me the current EC Chair is either a fool or deliberately trying to steal the election for NDC or both. Civil war awaits Ghana!!!

The problem with the NDC party is they have the most unelectable incumbent Presidential candidate in over half a century and this is what has created the situation where, out of desperation, the NDC party and gov't has become the defacto public relations outfit of the EC.
The Supreme Court ruled those people who registered with the NHIS cards should be deleted and re-registered with proper and acceptable forms of ID that proves eligibility beyond any reasonable doubt. The EC will have to explain to the Supreme Court why it thinks it shouldn't delete those three categories of registrants when the express orders of the Supreme Court was to delete them ab initio having been ceased with the facts concerning the NHIS cards.
If the EC believes it must continue on this path of belligerence and fail to abide by the orders of the Supreme Court and this matter goes before them a third time, amongst the reliefs that should be sought, Abu Ramadan must seek the indulgence of the Supreme Court to compel the EC to complete that exercise of deletion and re-registration within a timeframe, at most 4weeks, and whilst at it, commit the EC Boss to prison term as stipulated by the law ipso facto, for disobeying the orders of the Court. The Courts will not be the avenue for dillydallying about the processes of voting out an unelectable incumbent Presidential candidate who out of desperation is seeking to grasps at straws.

If you really read the SC judgment, you will realize that all the reliefs the petitioners had prayed for were refused by the court. The petitioners wanted the SC to declare the register null and void and order the compilation of a new one. The SC rejected all of them without exception.
When the SC in a side comment asked the EC to take all steps to clean the register of voters of ineligible names, no specific mention was made of those who had registered, prior to the 2012 election, using NHIA cards as being ineligible. I strongly advise you to look for the judgment and read it for yourself - it is a sure way of commonsense.

People in those positions are scared of loosing their jobs,so they always do the bidding of the government in power.
One will have thought that when the BNI disobeyed a simple court order,the supreme court would have dealt with the culprits,but what did we witnessed to date,nothing.
The same thing will happen to this case and nothing will be done.
Who knows,maybe the EC had done some underground investigation with the members of the Supreme Court aND the NDC,that's why they have taken that stand.
The saying goesthat,before a blind man will say,I will hit you with a stone,it means he is standing on one.
Our Constitution needs a serious AMENDMENT do that powers will be segregated between the arms of governmrnt

The think the supreme court was wrong. They didn't take into consideration how the EC is going to take those names out and inform those whose names were taken out to re registered. Sometimes we don't think about our situation as a country and make law which doesn't make sense. We are in May and how are going to go around the country registering people again?
