Thank you so much! And I really do hope so, I believe in years to come more and more kids will represent the country of their heritage instead of being pressured into representing the country they reside in. Representing Britain never occurred to me, even when I qualified to represent GB at the World Championships because I'm not British, I'm Ghanaian!

From what I understand she is Ghanaian and she represents Ghana in her sport. And it's about celebrating a young Ghanaian girl's achievements in flying the flag isn't it??

It seems every Ghanaian politician is looking for rub shoulders with and take pictures with Yasmine, Ghana's new sensation. It makes no sense that she chooses to represent Ghana, unless she is not capable of making the British team. Britain has given her the resources and opportunity to develop as a fencer. What has Ghana given her besides encouragement from politicians and sports officials? She will come to regret competing for Ghana and not Britain, the land of her birth.

To those of you supporting me and wishing me the best, thank you very much and I am proud to represent Ghana and to Martin, I am indeed good enough to represent Britain as this year I won 17 out of the 20 domestic competitions, however I don't represent Britain because I am Ghanaian, NOT British. Also, I was not born in Britain and neither of my parents are British so I'm interested into why you feel I should represent GBR.

Sometimes to make history you have to walk the untrodden path. Yasmine is a Ghanaian. Where she trains is irrelevant. Loads of high level athletes train all over the world and represent their countries and their national identity. Plenty choose to go the other way too and get poached by the Europeans and Americans so they look good on the medals tables. It's a matter of personal choice and identity. The South African who made the Rio Olympic selection for Africa lives and trains in the US. The top Brazilian lives and trains in France. The world no 3 the Tunisian lives and trains in France. And that's just in fencing. In all sports there are Africans competing very successfully but they've been poached by the Europeans and Americans and that's what they choose to do. But for some patriotic and proud Africans, they choose to stay with their flag. The choice is personal and has nothing to do with the blood that runs through your veins or your identity. We are proud of you Yasmine keep going!

OFFICIALS WILL USE YOUR NAME TO CREATE AND CHOP AND SHARE USING YOUR NAME. DONT BE USED AS A PAWN. SO MANY PROMISING ATHLETES HAVE TRIED TI REPRESENT GHANA BUT THEY ENDED UP SWEARING THEY WILL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN. IF U GET INJURED, OFFICIALS WILL CHOP THE MONEY ALLOCATED TO YOU FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT. YOUR BONUSES WILL BE SHARED AMONG OFFICIALS TO ROOF THEIR UNCOMPLETED HOUSES. WHEN U COMPLAIN, YOU WILL BE LABELED UNPATRIOTIC. WHEN YOU ASK FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF YOUR TICKET, YOU WILL BE TOLD THE OFFICIAL IN CHARGE IS ON LEAVE. AT THAT TIME, THEY WILL START TO LOOK FOR THE NEXT GULLIBLE ATHLETE FROM GHANA TO EXPLOIT. PLEASE DO NOT REPRESENT GHANA. IT IS NOT WORTH IT!!!!

Sports is a brutal business everywhere and athletes are always vulnerable anywhere in the world especially the youngsters. Ghana has so much talent to share. hopefully soon Ghana will see too their athletes are valuable on the world stage and for public relations and image of the country and protect them better. Especially with the youth. And not just footballers that is the only thing African countries support. Girls don't get to do sports and have a tough time. So what this young girl is doing is really new and important. yes, there is a lot of challenges involved to protect the athlete especially the girls. It's a tough road.

Remember all those 'studies' so-called social anthropologists (aka racists) have carried out to say Africans are only good for sports with brawn - running, jumping, throwing? According to them, we are not capable when it comes to events that require thought, planning and strategy - like fencing and chess. Thank you, Yasmine, for bucking the trend - and for looking really hot as you do it, as well!
