During the UniGov era, the youth of my village, especially students from our universities, who were most times loitering about due to university closures imposed by the failing Kutu, knew all too well that our village chief was anti-Kutu, One fine Tuesday, as if by arrangement, we had all gone out of town for various reasons. It was on this particular day that Kutu decided to make one of his unannounced "accounting to the people tours" entry into town. At a hurriedly arranged durbar, we returned to town later that day to hear that our chief had pledged his people's support for Kutu's UniGov idea by declaring "Y'aso mu twe". We rushed to the palace enbloc to confront our friendly chief. And this was his explanation: "You guys must grow up! You know that I will never betray the wishes of my people. I told Kutu what he wanted to hear. Whileas other people are declaring 'Yeaso mu, yeaso mu', I told that man: 'As for my people and I, we have tied it to the end of our cloth'. As you all know, anything tied to the end of the cloth can become loose and drop off easily at any time." Our fury evaporated straight away. The chief had won the heart of Kutu and the hearts of his subjects with the same pronouncement, subject to each side's interpretation!!

Similarly, chiefs who think the government is not doing much for them can express their disapproval to the government as an alert to the government.
