The don is not right in advocating for state funding of political parties' manifesto development. Parties must fund their manifesto development with internal funds. However, the state must provide funds for the national development plan which must be followed by victorious parties comprising elected governments. That way, there will not be room for the current abandoning of projects initiated by previous governments that happen to be in opposition after losing elections.

The ruling govt will always get funds from corrupt practices. Other parties become too weak financially to compete thereby creating one party state.

Oh yes. At long last, this man has spoken sense for the very first time in his life. Why should government funds political parties? We need to get out priorities right.

Funding political parties will not reduce corruption. If we don't like state enterprises, state owned industries that could create wealth, why should the sta sponsor political parties. Incumbent governments will then set up their surrogate parties and syphon the money, period. Look at America, if you are a viable candidate the people will collect money and sponsor you. Our political parties and politicians should do collection as in America and as the churches do in Ghana. No state money , please.

The man is wrong and i am surprised to hear you guys supporting the notion. The fact is donations always comes from the west to support democracy in the 3rd world and so the funding does not come from Government. The last time i checked the UK had donated £4M to support the effort of Government in an election year, hence the essence of that money. The US and other western countries donate funds to promote and ease the burden of the democratic process on government. It's unfortunate that certain elements are in it for the money or benefits, but that is nature of our world. No system is without saboteurs. It shouldn't stop us from doing the right thing. Maybe a stringent measure could help mitigate the probems.

Do you think the money comes from Ghana Government? NO. Every Embassy gives Ghana Government money to help in general election.

I beg to disagree with Dr Amoako Baah, based on the ff reasons (1).To Fund the Political Parties would Create a Level Play Ground to Strengthen our Democratic dispensation,to make it more interesting.(2).Non Funding promotes or encouraged "winner takes all Syndrome".(3)Funding could help to fight Corruptions to Subside. B'cos individuals who Funded the Party had to find "way & means" to recoup their Monies,by whichever means.(4), The use of Taxpayers Funds by the incumbent to Campaign is obvious to the disadvantage of the other Parties, and to Stop If Cannot Be Guaranteed at this Stage our Weak Institutions and infant Democracy. Until our Institutions work,or is Streamlined for the Police to have the Balls to invite the leadership for questioning.if necessary; And the Attorney General Dept is Funded to cause investigations (public & private inves) into Political Financial Crimes of National interest, etc.if proven to prosecute.(5) Ghana has never seen Money before but there's Sufficient Money for Officials to divert into private pockets(account), embezzle or misappropriate.(6).Therefore,the theory of " there's not Money at the moment is Lame and seems good at the Surface, which would not help the Country in the long run, in my personal opinion.(7).Ghana should learn to lay the Solid foundations gradually from now for a better Ghana in the future. In conclusion,if the incumbent could not be Stopped from using Taxpayers Funds for political expediency,it is necessary to Fund the other Political Paties Statistics showed, obtained about 5 percent and above of total Votes Casted in the last National Elections. What is the Guarantee that part or all of the 4 million Pounds in Support of the election; granted by the British Gov't would not go to Support incumbent political Campaigns or endup into
private pockets. If I have my own way,
3 million Pounds, should be used to Equip or upgrade all Regional,District/ Municipal, Hospitals and Selected Clinics across the Country for the use, benefit, and well being of our own people.Fund Political Parties!.And tell us now, how the 4 million Pounds British grand would be expended. Anyway.
