First of all, what Jake proposed at the time was unconstitutional as far the NPP constitution was concerned. Secondly, there is no guarantee that his method could have addressed the in-fighting.

In the same way that those who supported other candidates are seen as enemies, the supporters of other presidential candidates would still have been targets of Nana Addo's hatred if the same people were to contest for positions after Nana had secured the leadership.

The problem lies with Nana and his team who are determined to sideline supporters of a particular candidate.
