ASHANTI TOWN SNAKES Ever since the Ashanti town issue cropped up I have been amazed to hear our useless academicians attributing it to remote causes like Climate Change and the likes. Look, such things are the regular features of the wild especially during mass movement of soldier ants (Nkrani in Twi from which we got the name Nkran - Accra). During such movements by the ants in the wild, they occupy every space in the terrain including holes, crevices, cracks and snake hide-outs in the bush in a sweeping mode and since snakes fear the ants they flee - Who said snakes don't have natural enemies.
The snakes running to homes in Ashanti town is to find a place to hide themselves. The only solution to this is to allow a lot of local pigs to roam the vicinity. Cats should also be be given the freedom to scan the neighborhoods to ensure that any single snake is trailed. This can only be successful if there are no Muslims and Ewes in that particular Ashanti town.

Great and wonderful ideas from one of the greatest global citizens. This is a climate SMART approach being proposed by Sir Kofi Annan. What about each African or global citizen planting and nurturing 5 tree species ? I think the UNFCCC and other related bodies and initiatives should come out with a global enforceable law for this suggesting that transcends sovereign boundaries so that those who do not comply will be made to pay scientifically determined amount that could be given to those willing and ready to plant trees to do so on behalf of the defaulting global citizens. This is not so different from the global carbon credit and trading market. I know others may raise climate change injustice, ethical, inequity, and moral issues. That is okay except that those of us in the tropical southern nations with weak adaptation abilities will suffer most if we don't adapt and mitigate at the same. In fact there are synergistic and complementary benefits to this approach to managing climate change risks. We should also be aware that the global north has the capacity to adapt to adverse impacts of climate change in the short to the medium term and may even be able to push further in the long-term depending on how their innovations and technologies will play out in future. It will however be a great idea for both developed and developing countries to work together on combating climate change through simultaneous adaptation and mitigation. Thanks for this platform to contribute.

Thank you Mr. Annan, for your wonderful pronouncement. However, my simple and respectful question is: What have you done, or doing, about such environmental destructive menace? Could it have worth more than lecture to have formed an organization or movement to champion such very important exercise looking at the position you once occupied!!!

HAVE YOU ASKED YOURSELF WHY AFRICANS CONTINUE TO USE WOOD AND CHARCOAL FOR COOKING ON THE CONTINENT.
PLEASE,WHAT IS THE ALTERNATIVE TO THEIR CONTINUED DIFFICULTIES AND CHALLENGES FACING THEM.
AND WHY ARE THEY STILL WITHOUT ELECTRICITY.
OPAYIN,ALL THE MEASURES IN YOUR ADDRESS CLEARLY INDICATES,THE AFRICAN EDUCATED WITH BIG DEGREES,PHD TITLES AND BIG POSITIONS IN THE WORLD,STILL DO NOT HAVE THE ABILITIES IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY,INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY TO TRANSFORM THE CONTINENT TO PRSOPERITY.
THE SUN SHINES TEN HOURS A DAY AND THE WINDS BLOW TWENTY FOUR HOURS A DAY AND WHY HAS IS IT BECOME VERY DIFFICULT FOR THE AFRICAN EDUCATED TO TAP THESE NATURAL RESOURCES FOR THE BENEFIT OF THEIR PEOPLE.
OPAYIN,IT IS TIME WE STOP ALL THESE PREACHINGS AND TO KNOW, WHY WE ARE ECONOMIC BACKWARD,UNDERDEVELOPED AND EXTREME POOR.
LASTLY, IT IS THE GHANAIAN AND AFRICA EDUCATED WHO HAVE UNDERDEVELOPED THE CONTINENT.
AND NEVER SHOULD WE LOOSE SIGHT OF THESE REALITIES.
"YOU ALWAYS SAID THE TRUTH!!!
