Damn it, you can't get it both ways. Why should poor Ghanaians pay for your bungalows, utilities, cars and many other freebies and to top it up with PAID Police Escort?? Who the hell do these MPs think they are?? Simply, the country can’t afford it. Either you trade in your FREE bungalows for police escort or you are on your own just as nearly all Ghanaians.
So, if a TEACHER, DOCTOR, NURSE, and other government worker gets killed or robbed, then it becomes the government's responsibility to provide "police escort" to that person or persons?
Come visit the United States of America; the richest nation on planet earth, BUT Congressmen/women (MPs in Ghana) DON'T HAVE ANY POLICE ESCORT or PROTECTION—although America can easily afford it. Secondly, the American federal government doesn't provide FREE HOUSING to the 535 Congressmen/women. They rent and pay for their own accommodation in Washington, DC. Only the American President and Vice President have free federal accommodation. Now, try this on for size:
The current Speaker of the United States Congress, Paul Ryan, has been SLEEPING in his office for the past 10 years although his annual salary and other perks exceed $200,000. But, why?? Because it is not the responsibility of the federal government to provide accommodation, vehicles or free utilities for them. There are about 11 other Congressmen who also sleep in their offices.
So, STOP that FOOLISHNESS & baby tantrums, because MPs are not the only precious human beings in Ghana. The country can't AFFORD it, PERIOD!!

I am of those people that think we give too much to our Politicians in terms of benefits. I think it should not be the responsibility of the government to provide houses to the MP's but I think the MP's should be provided with security if because of their jobs they become vulnerable to assassins.
If the DCE's are provided with armed Police Security, then the MP's deserve the same.
Dr Anim rhetorical question whether the MP's are more important is than other citizens is wrong. Ordinary citizens are not targeted for just being Ghanaians but if people are targeting MP's because of their positions, then they are right to demand personal protection.

This Anim guy needs education, there is no country that gives personal protection to all the citizens but that does not mean the lives of the other citizens are not important,MPs hold important positions in the society and in competition with others, they can easily be a target to anybody for that matter need protection,if Aning wants personal protection he should go to parliament or be a minister,we don't give personal protection to every citizen.
Are the lives of Judges,Ministers,DCEs and others more important than the rest of the citizens, why Aning does not ask those group of people why they have personal protection?
Sometimes you don't have to comment on everything as this Aning guy always want to do although he is always displaying ignorance on issues he claims to be an expert of.

I do not think that the judges and all you mentioned that are covered under Article 71 are more important than any Ghanaian and do not warrant any such protections. In many advanced nations judges and similarly positioned individuals have no such protection except when there is a real threat supported by evidence. What Ghana needs is a very safe environment as envisioned by Dr. Aning. Of course, this would only be very possible/realistic with a well resourced and trained efficient police system. Remember it takes an average of 7 minutes to have police and other emergency personnel to reach a location of incidence in many jurisdictions in the USA.

First of all my condolences to the family of late Hon Danquar. All Ghanaians should condone it irrespective of your political affiliation. However, am wondering the cry of some MPs to provide them with security or else they will boycott parliament. I think we got some MPs who only think about themselves and their families and nothing more, Can those MPs crying for personal security actually know the number of Ghanaians who have been killed and rob on our the highways everyday? Our MPs have a moral duty to push for laws that will take the security of every single Ghanaian seriously but they don't, they only care when it affects them directly. We vote for these MPs to represent our interests in parliament but unfortunately most of them go to parliament to enjoy the free hand out of the state That is free loan cars, houses and luxury lifestyle. It makes my blood boils when our hard working men and women get robbed and killed every day and our politicians have turn blind eye on it. I think what is good for goose is good for the gander. Our business men and women who are working so hard to get our economy moving are suffering from insecurity everyday on our highway's what's our MPs doing about it in parliament? Most of our MPs are just " yea yea" MPs in parliament. They go to enjoy goddies through tax payers hard earned salaries but they don't really protect same people they are representing in parliament. I don't want to paint all MPs with the same brush but the need to up their game. MPs are to serve but not to be served.

The MPs want more pay, more servants, more chauffeurs, better housing, and police escorts, but could care less about the very people they've been elected to represent. These MPs should relinquish their positions if they want to live the lives of privilege. Only a few of these MPs have any concern for the lives and security of the people of Ghana; the rest are more concerned about themselves and their selfish agenda. Lets mourn with the family of the late Danquah-Addu instead of using that tragedy too demand more privileges for Members of Parliament.
