In this age of fast-paced advances in technology, a 40-year development plan is complete nonsense. Perhaps an idiot is going to come out and tell Ghanaians to vote for parties to stay in power for 40 years to oversee this 40-year development. We still have parties selling their 4-year plans in their manifestos. Aren't these the issues on which the people vote? Imagine Acheampong of Akuffo, and AFRC's 40-year development plans from 1975 or 1976; what would that have been worth today?

A long-term plan like a 40-year plan usually is outdated even before you begin implementation. Our needs change constantly. The data that fed into the plan change drastically within short periods of time. Assumptions quickly quickly become useless when reality sets in. A 40-year plan will rather confuse political parties than help them.
I was involved in drawing up corporate plans for many years. I tell you, the plan was outdated even before we presented the plan to the board due to new information that were not captured in the plan.

Ken, I completely disagree with your thinking and advice. Also, I do not think it is "NONSENSE" as per your description here.
Think for once that Ghana has set a long goal to be self sufficient in Electrical Energy. This goal will of course include expansion and development of more and different Power Generation plants that would include more Hydro dams, Solar, Wind, Thermal and even Nuclear power stations.
With this set larger plan, succeeding governments, irrespective of their political philosophy or colour, would review this plan, prioritize and select which type of power generation would be feasible at that particular moment to undertake...
Now, what makes such a process nonsensical?
I can certainly say that your plan failed to take off because you may have done the planning for tiny "Kokompe"- type of "corporate" entities or companies with no future or growth potential; hence the failure!
To me, and perhaps to all serious long-term thinkers, nations must have multi-year developments plans to guide future governments towards sustaining national development!

Mr Adore. First, I never used the word "Nonsense." That was somebody's trend I was following, just as you also were following. Secondly, you don't know what size of company I was talking about. It certainly wasn't a "tiny Kokompe-type company with no future." That company is 1000 times larger than the largest company you have in Ghana today. Finally, I hope you live for the next 40 years so you and I can review how your 40-year plan panned out.

Which people in their right mind will think of developing a document that will dictate what the future generation must do. This is insane. If This document exceeds 25 pages it must be rejected.

Why should naïve people continue to show naivety and to the far extent of stupidity? This 40 year plan cannot work. It died on arrival in 2015. Stop disturbing our ears, if you don't have anything meaningful to say. Five year plan of yours ran the economy from middle income to HIPC. 40 year plan will return the country to slavery and colonialism. Just shut up and take reason.

Mahama introduced killer tariff on Christmas day and just as Ghanaian Christians were nursing their wounds from the obnoxious tariff, Mahama again introduced another killer taxes in less than a week to truncate the New Year celebration which is a very important occassion on the Christian Calendar. Remember the tariff increment came because of the Ameri Power Plant which was dubiously sold to Ghana by a Sheik of an Islamic country. You can now see how treacherous Mahama could be.
Mahama is so heartless, wicked and corrupt that he wouldn’t blink stealing from an orphan. Please read the following:
Ghana’s President Hurls Insults At Obasanjo At African Forum In London-bloomberg
There was near pandemonium and confusion at the Annual Global African Investment Forum held in Westminster, Central London after a heated exchange between Ghana’s President John Mahama and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo degenerated into open insults. This was due to General Obasanjo openly accusing the Ghanaian president and his government of blackmailing and collecting bribes from Nigerian businessmen in Ghana, buying numerous properties in Nigeria and South Africa and financially contributing 12 million dollars to Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign last year. This infuriated President Mahama who lost his temper and pointing his finger, called General Obasanjo an ” idiot” and a “silly buffoon”.It took other ministers present as well as Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to calm tempers and usher President Mahama to a nearby room. The forum, which takes place from 1st to 3rd December is attended by African Heads of States Ministers, Private equity firms and investors to discuss opportunities for investment and development in African Economies.
