The Country Director of Gideons International, Israel Ackuaku, has tasked Christian bodies in the country to show love to the two ex-detainees of Guantanamo Bay, who are currently living in Ghana.

He said calls for the two – Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby, who were relocated to Ghana recently after a deal between the governments of Ghana and the US – to be taken away from the country were, from a Christian perspective, improper.

Many Christian bodies in the country, notably the Christian Council of Ghana, the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, and the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, have condemned the decision of the government to accept the two inmates into the country, joining the clamour to have the Yemeni duo returned to Cuba.

But Mr Ackuaku disagreed with his Christian folk, saying: “From the spiritual point of view, I think it’s wrong to show this kind of objection to the people living here. We must preach the word of God to every soul. Where is the love of enemy in all this?

“It is unnecessary because Christ said: ‘Love your enemies’. But, even then, these are not enemies.”

Mr Ackuaku said fears that terrorist groups allied to the two ex-detainees could target Ghana are misplaced, as Christians should not be afraid to lay down their lives in propagating the gospel. “What is the point if I am killed? I am going to heaven.”

According to him, Christianity was not meant to be a cakewalk, and criticised the attitude of many Christians in Ghana, whom, he said preferred the less difficult route to salvation.

Christians in Ghana, he stressed, had neglected their basic duty of propagating the gospel in faraway lands to save souls. The failure of Christians to take the message to far off lands, in his view, had led to the current situation. “Now those, who were needing the gospel to be saved are now arriving on our land. It is a prophetic thing. If you don’t do so, God will bring them to you because they are also creatures of God,” Mr Ackuaku stressed.

“Ghanaian Christians like the easy way. Christ did not say Christianity is an easy thing. We must go down on our knees and pray. That’s my spiritual point of view.”

That will show is that you value the lives of Ghanaians you swore to defend for more than Americans and Yemenis you don't rule. Compassionate Christian President, remember that GHANA also has thousands of persons languishing in Ghanaian prisons without trial or charge for more than 14 years on remand. Charity begins at home, so kindly concentrate on showing them your brand of compassion first for "low risk" suspects of crime who may be innocent. Whilst you are at it Orphanages and social centers for the vulnerable to are collapsing because of lack of public funding. If you can promising houses as gifts and awards to farmers and taxi drivers who have a source of income it makes common sense, and is a command in the bible,to show compassion to orphaned children in addition to prisoners and widows. Indeed orphans first, without expecting any publicity, policitic, economic, religious or even diplomatic return. That is how Christian compassion must work.

Isn't it amazing to note how John Mahama keeps on committing blunders in any given moment as president? He holds the records as the first world president to pose for a photo shot in front of CNN in U.S. while on a visit. The blunders are numerous; he's been to Germany on another state visit accompanied this time by a member of his entourage wearing ladies winter coat to embarass the whole nation. Now this one too?

Asides that, he is confused about how to make Ghana progress; the economy and everything is in total disarray. Things continue to fall apart for everyone in Ghana, esp school children and students, the ordinary people and families. The cedi keeps on losing value against all major international currencies.

As a result of corruption coupled with mismanaging the nation's economy, govt has had to impose heavy taxes on all goods and services making things rather worse.

John Mahama is the hopeless and bogus president in Ghana's political history! While all former presidents, Rawlings, Kuffour, Atta-Mills brought world leaders to Ghana, John Mahama could only bring in world known terrorists to Ghana. Wow! The harm the hosting of the two Guantanamo detainees to Ghana has caused is irreparable! Mahama is simply a dumb president; he keeps on making silly mistakes as leader of a peaceful nation like Ghana.

I believe the U.S. tested the intelligence of Mahama by setting such a trap for him esp in an election year. Every clever president would have found good excuses to refuse the request thrown by the U.S. although they have been our friends as donors in many ways.

It's time for Ghanaians to rise up and reject the clueless and incompetent John Mahama's NDC govt out of power before they completely destroy Ghana's economy and image. Enough is enough; the suffering, misery and disgrace among our international neighbours is getting too much!

I urge the President to do everything within the powers that he used in bringing these criminals into our mist, to ensure that, twenty four hour security is on these criminals, and the cost borne by those who brought them to us. Nothing should be left to chances. They must not be allowed to establish communication outside Accra. They must not even be allowed to have the means to use a phone. Their familiy members should not be allowed to visit them. Under no circumstances should they be allowed to visit mosques to pray. They should pray at where they live.
