Dr Opuni's choice of words, to say the least, were unfortunate. By those statement was he trying to imply that the EC should what people want? That is not what the law says. Indeed, the law say that the EC is not subject to the control of any individual, group or organisation. Dr Opuni was in effect telling the EC to prepare a new voters' register and it is not in the place of Dr Opuni to instruct the EC. He was wrong and the EC Chairperson is right to say that the EC is not taking Ghanaians for granted and does not consider Ghanaians to be timid. I am sure on reflection, Dr Opuni will acknowledge his mistake. I think those who disagree with the decision of the EC on the voters' register should go court rather than issue veiled threat and resorting to intimidation and bullying tactics.

Yes, the EC is "independent" but certain things don't really allow her to be as such: she was appointed by a president who is also a stakeholder of the election, but that's a constitutional flaw which i think should be revisited. Even though the EC is supposed to be independent, that "independence" does not give a right to impose its stance on Ghanaians when it comes to contentious issues like whether there's the need to compile a new voters register or not, especially when the electorate is HEAVILY DIVIDED on that.

If you want to be taken seriously, and you have regard for the security of Ghana, shed off your baseless arrogance, and re-register voters in order to have election devoid of bias and doubts which are likely to provoke violence and legitimacy problems.

It's NOT about what you think, but what MAJORITY of the people you serve think. If you're SMART, you'd respect that electorate by asking them (by way of REFERENDUM) what they want, but because you THINK you know BETTER than the people, you unilaterally picked A PANEL to decide for Ghanaians, and expect us to accept what that panel "recommended". This is shy from commonsense and smack of ARROGANCE besides taking Ghanaians for GRANTED as said by Christian Council Chair.

You don't let your law degree get into your head and assume, albeit wrongly that majority of Ghanaians don't have the academic skills to critically engage in political discourse that will determine their lives. Charlotte Osei, you keep referring to democratic processes and rule of law in your interviews , yet you fail to realize that asking ONLY a panel of 5 to make a decision for several millions legible voters is neither democratic nor lawful.

Neither you, as EC nor any panel has the RIGHT to make even electoral laws, but ONLY the legislature and therefore the PEOPLE because the legislature is representative of the people, not a PANEL of 5 people "appointed" by EC. You are making a HUGE mistake borne out of ARROGANCE, IGNORANCE, DISREGARD for the LAW and lack of WISDOM.

You were APPOINTED by a sitting President who is as well a STAKEHOLDER in the 2016 election you're assigned to oversee. Taking a position in tandem with the party in power, and INSISTING on it by using a so called panel to "grace" it will not escape the suspicion of even the most ignorant individual in Ghana. This is where the belief of your granted taken of Ghanaians is exposed.

Charlotte Osei, I'd ADVISE you to do the right thing by asking the people what they want by way of referendum: NEW REGISTER or CURRENT ONE, so you can show Ghanaians you went by the INDEPENDENT tenet of your job.

You were NOT elected by the people, but APPOINTED by a stakeholder, so bear in mind that ALWAYS you'd be watched to verify if you may do the bidding for the one who appointed you, especially since the sustenance of that individual's own job depends on the job you're managing.

I heard from you in your interview that compiling a New Voters Registers will COST us RESOURCES. If that's your reason for refusing to compile a new one, then your position is SUSPICIOUS, because the last time I checked the money will not come from your bank accounts. Will it? This gives you away for critics to conclude that you're doing the bidding of the ruling party, because the President holds the same opinion. CONFLICT or WAR will COST us more so stop that nonsense and do what the PEOPLE want, and you'll rise above all contesting stakeholders as a REAL independent body, because once the MAJORITY decides the way to go your job becomes easier, independent, and respected insofar as you follow through, and of course, do your job TRANSPARENTLY and SUCCESSFULLY. Think about it.
