I'm an Obama Democrat and voted for him twice in 2008 & 2012. However, since he is finding it extremely difficult to get Conservative Republicans in Congress to go along with him in (a) accepting large numbers of Middle-East refuges and (b) many U.S. State governors refusal to accept released prisoners from the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (GITMO) facility, Obama and his administration have turned their attention on third world poor countries to accept these folks in lieu of DOLLARS.

Therefore, nobody should be digging deep or looking too far for President Mahama and fat ass Hanna Tetteh to quickly and easily agree to the American solicitation. Note: It is not only Ghana that the American administration is accosting to accept these people (refugees & GITMO prisoners), but many East European poor countries, South American and Asian developing countries as well.

$$$ America is offering big sums of DOLLARS that these third world countries can't refuse.$$$. But, only a fraction of that money will actually go to take care of these people. What will happen to the rest?? So, I urge Ghana's Parliament to ask for or investigate "how much money was given to the Ghana government" to weaken its knees to accept the refugees and GITMO prisoners—and how many are they, instead of the lies of 2 here and 3 there? It's all about the money offered!!

To Hanna Tetteh: What about the plight of Ghanaian prisoners in Libya facing executions, as well as the many pleas from some Ghanaian immigrants in some Lungulungu countries? Well, if the temperature in Washington, DC, USA, is only 35 degrees F, while Accra is recording a hefty 93 degrees F, then you could easily figure out the thinking process of our leaders down there.

How can this country ever recover from the disgrace and the shame of this most discreditable and reprehensible deed?

Two hundred years from hence, our great-great grandchildren will take this as a case study of sheepish neo-colonial subservience of Ghanaians/Africans under the most dictatorial instance of global imperialist domination and they will wonder how we could have been so stupid.

Look at how even the NPP - the traditional imperialist errand boys and stooges who would have gladly agreed to act in the same foolish manner if they were to be in govt, are standing up against this despicable turn of events. This misdeed can be classified as one of the worse things to have undermined our sovereign integrity as an independent nation.

Ghanaians must stand up against this. We do not want to inherit the criminal deeds nor play any part at all in the illegal actions of other countries around the world. As stupid as our leaders are, we are a peaceful country and we want to remain as such because at the very least, we can live under dumsor and other deplorable conditions without bombs being rained on us and our children on a daily basis. The line that crosses the peaceful conditions that we live in today – in spite of all our shortcomings, and the chaos that reigns in countries like Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan and Syria, is very very thin and we should be wary of it lest we are spontaneously drawn into this kind of hell overnight.

No amount of handouts can justify Ghana’s association with this crime against humanity which even the perpetrators themselves are trying their damned best not to be seen as being part of. We do not want to be associated with this Guantanamo crap and anything that has to do with it. History will not exonerate those of us living today if we do. Simple and short.

If Mahama succumbed to this smelly arrangement with the agreement that perhaps he will benefit in kind from those who imposed this on him - in his bid to win a second term in office, he lie bad. I can very well conjecture that even the most moronic, daft, blind, obtuse and bought-off NDC supporter will angrily vote against Mahama for this terrible terrible misdeed.

The lie that is being thrown at us that the two Arabs have been cleared of all terrorist activity is not compatible with the fact that they have been held at the notorious Guantanamo Bay detention facilities for hardened terrorists for over 14 years. If they were not guilty of all the crimes that were leveled against them and therefore the reason for which they were apprehended, then why were they kept there for so long? And having decided to free them, why bring them to Ghana of all places? I fear that this is just a precedence of other nasty things that will follow.

My greatest concern is the interest that these two terrorist ex-convicts, who are factually said to be known members of Al Qaida, will draw from other global terrorist organizations around the world to Ghana. In fact Ghana will from now be considered by other terrorist organizations as an ally or stooge of their enemies and the dire consequences of this are not difficult to perceive. Ghana will therefore inevitably become a terrorist target in their global operations and this will be the sad end of a country that was once known as Ghana – the Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumahs Ghana.

These Prisoners have not been found to be dangerous after all. If they were, the USA would not have set them free. It is not like they were even tried to be found innocent of any crime, or might have finished serving a jail term after being found guilty.

However, Americans fear that having imprisoned them without a just cause, if they feel bitter and vengeful, the American mainland would be their target for such revenge.

So, it is safer to keep them far out and away from the USA.

The reason why they were not sent back to their home Countries is for similar reason since, most likely, their apprehension could have been carried out by the USA with the tacit agreement of their own Governments who also fear these detainees might take revenge on them.

In fact, there are reports that some of them have even been formally denied return to their home Countries by their own Governments who fear their own shadows for having collaborated with the USA to take them through their ordeals, unjustifiably.

Does it matter what those political colors are if they reflect the truth? You sometimes amaze me that you live here in the USA.

This issue of getting the detainees at GITMO transferred to third Countries, beside their own and the USA, has long been discussed in the public forum with ample explanations from the Obama Administration.

It was apparent that only Countries with whom the USA has close relationships and not directly in sight of the radical jihaddists for vengeance would be the most likely to receive them.

Surely there is an element of risk involved in such an arrangement. But if you carefully study the situation you would understand why these detainees would not turn around and hurt the very Countries that have offered to give them home, while their own Countries have rejected them.

On the point of radicalization of our Youths by these freed detainees, I would say, the embedded precautions taken with the transfers include close monitoring of their activities, not only by our Ghanaian Security Agencies alone, but also competent US Agents planted in their Embassy. So, if any such dangerous activity is ever suspected, the former detainees would be apprehended to have broken the conditions upon which they were freed.

But then, you must concede that even without their presence, some of our folks have left to join the criminal ISIS. It is therefore losing the focus on how to contain such poisonous indoctrination to complain against these freed detainees.

How about engaging the detainees to have them educate our vulnerable Youths to stay away from the lure of joining the Jihaddists? That, for example, could be inserted in our part of honoring the deal to offer them a home. We could have them do so under strict supervision.

One other fact is that they are supposed to live among us for two probationary years, after which they could leave if they have proven to have been of good behavior.

Lastly, the reason why I mentioned Akufo-Addo is that he is more amenable to, even acceptable of, the entreaties of the USA and other Western Governments than the Mahama Administration and could have taken in even more of those elements.

The duty of the Government at this point is to assure the general Public of its safety with these freed detainees, and vigorously engage with the detainees to keep them away from any insidious activities.

If the freed detainees and their former colleagues would ever want to strike at any Country, it would be most likely the USA which might have erred in capturing and imprisoning them without any proof of their wrongdoing. That is also why the Americans feared to take these elements on their own soil.

The Cities and States in the USA which rejected even transferring these freed detainees to prisons in those locations to continue their incarceration there did so because they acknowledged that it is their Government that had caused these folks pain, and incurred some justification for vengeance from their colleagues on their local citizens.

Ghana has not done anything to deserve any such reprisals from the Jihaddists. So, we need not let paranoia get the better of us to shirk our Humanitarian responsibility by them.

On rewards from the USA for this our Assistance to her, I see only a long trail of future benefits that may not necessarily be in cash. So, we could have not received anything from the USA yet.

Don't forget that the IMF had put a cap on government spending this election year and some may argue that the government agreeing to this deal might probably bring in the necessary resource needed for the NDC's campaign prior to the elections without bothering themselves with the so-called IMF restriction since there would be availability of cash from a different source furnishing the campaign without a sweat? It's just a matter of time before someone come spinning on this assumption I have raised. A point I put blank before them to, at least, consider.

But I'd prefer being silent to just blowing hot air, huffing and puffing. We did accept their gem- infested Hospital trash in Shiploads to be dumped into our Seas for years. We kept taking in their banned DDT and other dangerous Chemicals that we never told our fellow Citizens who were using them how dangerous those were to their health and our Environment for decades. So, what is new? But more importantly, this is not Nuclear Waste we are talking about. The hazard involved here is more conspicuous to be more easily handled than those poisonous Nuclear Waste and poisonous trash and chemicals.

And more, we have other ways of learning deeper about issues as this to take the safer decision on.

We cannot help them in this regard if we decide not to get involve. I, personally see this as a big opportunity for us to project our brand of freedom and justice unto the world stage.

We must not be afraid to accept the challenge. It's a passage to maturity.
Our country is maturing. We must not look at the Gitmo prisoners as a sigma on our country. After all, we are aspiring to stand shoulder to shoulder with the prominent democracies: we must therefore be equally ready to swim in the mud with them.

My honorable fellow Ghanaians fear not. Let's, be brave. We must seize this opportunity to showcase our brand of FREEDOM & JUSTICE, -- for the rest of the world to emulate. It's about time.

The one thing I can lay down my life for on this "GhanaWeb" is that all political issues discussed have had their vocal NDC and NPP fanatics. But on this, there hasn't been that factional split. Unanimously, there's opposition. There's an old wise saying in our culture: "Sankofa nye musuo", which can be translated as "retreating from the chosen wrong path is not a bad thing". So please, let "vox populi vox dei" be your operating maxim on this issue. If you don't, then I've already sent a plea to the Jihadist to have their brand of "discussions" with you and your cabinet members but not with the citizens whose opinions you may not seem to care about.

Instead, they are coming into their freedom in Ghana because they have been found not to be terrorists. They would have opted to go to their country if their country were not to be war-torn. The US will continue to take care of their welfareas they have been found not to be terrorists. At any rate, they are only 2 and monitoring them can't be a big problem.
Assuming they are terrorists, why would terrorists attack us for being kind to two of them. The likelihood is rather that, you become a target for terrorists if you hurt them. In a peaceful cooperation with other countries, we must know that, there is more pride in giving than receiving. This why Ghana must not always be at the receiving end in the international community.

We only have one Ghana and no amount of money is worth risking the lives of our citizens. Why didn't America allow them to stay in their midst? No favors can amount to the safety of our one and only Ghana. In whatever we do as people, whether being the President or so we must put Ghana first. Look at our security services, I doubt they have enough sophisticated equipments to monitor and fight terrorism. Let's think about our nation first always.

The country has taken up an enormous burden of housing, feeding and tracking the Yemenis for the two years that they will reside in Ghana. So what is it in for Ghana?

Their own home Countries might have most likely refused to take them back, and the fact that the USA might have erred in incarcerating them without proving their guilt puts the USA mainland in any likely target for their revenge.

They needed freedom from Prison and especially from Gitmo. So, Ghana stepping up to take them offers them a home to continue their lives in Freedom and they would not, I believe, harm us who have agreed to offer them a home to live in freedom.

The actions of the EC so far is outrageous. Can they publish the letter they wrote to the Togolese counterpart and their response.
