New white goods were used by only those who traveled and the rest used used ones. The coup stemmed the tide and stabilized the country's economy from which the democratically elected governments started building the economy. It was very necessary.

  With the exception of the 1966 coup which clearly arrested the vital development of Africa, all the other coups, with the notable exception of Akyeampongs coup, have only played into the hands and benefit of global imperialism. In other words, they have severely retarded our nationalist progress and pushed us deeper into the arms of the neo-colonial paradigm.
  
  That is where we are at the moment. We run an economy in which nothing of any significance belongs to the native people. This also means that a greater portion of the profits that are made by the cumulative efforts of the 'national economy', end up in the imperialist metropolis' whilst our people wallow in filth and poverty.

I will say it again in Ghana we have no shame; tribe and tribal politics has us all cornered there are no misdeeds from within our tribesmen we can condemn.
  
  At the very least it would be hard for any sane and civil society to explain, with straight face, how the wife of a former dictator turned politician, Mrs. Rawlings and her 31st Womens group acquired government property and illegally confiscated property of a legal political party, CPP, while the husband still control the executive, legislators and even the Judiciary. Members of Ghana's judiciary were afraid of Rawlings knowing what had befallen of their comrades, to stop the day light robbery sanctioned by government. So let no one, sane that is pretend Rawlings or anyone in Ghana knows a thing about honesty, principles or could give a darn they are nothing but dangerous hypocrites. Having a lot of yes men or brain dead followers does not an honest politician make; ask about the rise of Hitler and his storm troopers.
