Bawumiah's mother was the NDC Women's Organiser in the Nalerigu Constituency during the JJ era. His senior brother was a DCE under Prof and another senior brother has been an ambassador since Prof's time to date. You can therefore understand that Bawumia is a dyed in the wool NDC was poached from the NDC.

If NPP does not take care, the defectors (Blay and Bawumia) will destroy the party beyond repair. This is free consultancy advice.

What's acceptable in our democracy is that all those nursing presidential ambitions should sharpen their credentials further to prove to the party faithful and Ghanaians in general that they deserve to be presidents on the NPP ticket. Bawumia, whether nursing presidential ambition or not, is one of the best choices the NPP leadership has made, and that will go a long way to serving the party years after he has left the scene.

NPP will never accept an Orwellian, undemocratic communist system, in which one candidate is imposed on the party as it is being done in the NDC party. It will always be based on democratic survival of the fitters in the same way that Obama won his party's nomination in 2008.

Nana Akufo Addo is doing good by promoting Dr. Bawumiah who is equally good as anybody else in either the first,the second or the third tiers.The reason why the NDC has captured the hearts and minds of the Ewes and the Northerners is that every one among them are treated as equals. The NPP lost their staunchest partners and friends such as Apaloo,SG Antor, Awonnor Williams etc after pre independence because they were looked down on them and treated as second class members in the Party in the late 1960s. Who would accept such nonsense in this period we live in?

This is no nonsense. It is the damn truth. I have followed Ghana politics since the sixties. Anybody who is a novice in Ghana politics will not understand that. Bawumia has become very popular in the NPP and the chances that he can be the presidential candidate in the near future, even when Addo Akuffo does not become president after the 2016 election is very high. He is very humble, politically matured and responsible in his utterances. This has won him very much respect among many NPP and NDC people from all ethnic groups. He cannot be tagged as tribal as Akuffo Addo has been.(It will shock many that Addo is not tribal as people believe. With all respect to Mahama, he has also made serious tribal statements when he has been on campaign to the North. He has also made some politically inappropriate statements against Asante people in the past too.) But let us let sleeping dogs lie.
I have friends in both NPP and NDC who all have confirmed what the writer of the article has posted. Yes, it is true that some NPP big gurus believe and they say it in private that "KAI YEN MMA NANA ENDI EFRI SE ENDURUU BAWUMIA SO" translated loosely as we shall not let Nana win because it is not the turn of Bawumia. "YEN AKA SE NANA ENDI NO, ONDI DA NA ADURU BAWUMIA SO" meaning once we have said that Nana will not rule, he will never rule for it to be the turn of Bawumia. Such assertions, to me sound childish irresponsible and foolish. Many level headed Ghanaians will vouch for Bawumia to be a future flagbearer of NPP because of the qualities that he has. It is also a fact that there are some unenlightened NPP and NDC people who are so tribal that they would not want another Northner to be at the Flagstaff House anytime soon after Mahama. Thus, they see Bawumia as a threat. Let some NDC people think their party is also not tribal. If we can call a spade a spade and not a big spoon, let us then say that Mahama would not have been president if Mills had not died. There were the Ahwois, Botchway, Totobi and others who also felt it was their time after being in the party for that long. Yes, let us remember how the Swedru Declaration was recieved by many senior and founding members of NDC. Was it that very acceptable?
I would also want to point it out that there are some people in NDC too who do not want Addo to win 2016 because Bawumia would likely succeed him and NDC will be in opposition for a long time. NDC has been in opposition before and knows how uncomfortable it is. If it means having NPP to fight among themselves and lose 2016, it should be done.'
Let NPP not pretend that the Alan Faction and Akuffo Addo's factions do not exist. It really is undoing the party and it can be traced to the position of Bawumia in the party now.
Finally, let me say that there are some NPP senior members who see Akuffo Addo as being "ARROGANT." Many who know him personally like myself don't see it that way. Rather, we see him as too strict and will not allow them have it their way. If he should win the presidency, many of the OLD TIMERS may be sidelined because he will not put squared pegs in round holes. This position is ably supported by Bawumia. My NDC friend told me three days ago that so long as Bawumia remains Akuffo Addo's running mate, NPP will have problems from within their party and from some NDC people. Are Ghanaians not matured enough yet to eschew ourselves from negative tribal politics, family leanings and the "IT IS NOT YOUR TURN politics? Until we mature enough, we shall always have squared pegs in round holes and Ghana would always retrogress.

In reverse it is like this: It was Nana Addo who introduced the concept of turns into the NPP when he insisted it was his turn to leade the party. This was always going to be problematic because others are now claiming they have been around for decades whilst Bawumia did not even have a party card until 2008. Thus it is not his turn.

Second, if Bawumia was this boy wonder why are you guys still in opposition? For all that you say about Mahama and Mills, it was obvious to most that Mahama on the ticket helped mills win. A running mate is supposed to bring in votes. Aliu Mahama helped NPP secure 41% of the vote in his home northern region in the 2000 run-off. Bawumia did not do likewise as the vote in his home region dropped below 40%

Third he has ensured defeat after defeat as a running mate. Mills did not do so and was a victorious running mate in 1996. Thus Bawumia is NPP's worst running mate to date and this will be an issue if he comes forward in 2020.

This issue of NPP not ready for power is not true in my opinion but the issue lies in the fact that personal agenda has overshadowed the party's ultimate agenda.

Similarly, when Prof. Mills died there were other big wigs inline to ascend to the presidency but time was not on their side. This is the reason why the NDC leadership is so weak. Mahama is the president but there others in the party who sees themselves as above all hence the corruption and lack of authority at the top.

However, that's not being smart at all. We would advise them to cease fire immediately to avoid giving ammunitions to NDC for their impending manifesto - don't trust a party whose members are killing themselves!

The other side of the coin, apart from this tier system Prof. Boafo refers to, if it even exists, is the tradition that has guided the NPP in their choice of candidates to ensure inclusion, representation, equality and fairness all undergirded by the intelligence and competence, those candidates bring to the table.
When that tradition is factored into the whole equation, it completes negates and rules out quite a number of those individuals mentioned per Prof. Boafo, who want to maintain the status quo, based on a tier system, completely disregarding the foundational precept of the UP tradition.
For a long time, the presidential candidacy of the NPP party has rotated between the Danquah and Busia group, with the Dombo group not having really had a shot at true representation of the Presidency. And even between the Danquah and Busia group, the record shows the Busia group has had, with the support of the party, more chances at representation. Analyzing the Busia representation further, the Ashanti faction has had more chances at leading the NPP than the BA faction, all the time, leaving the Dombo group out of the equation at true representation.
Various reasons can be ascribed for this situation, but presently, the dynamics are such that, the Dombo group have a candidate, who is more than capable of representing the NPP party and hence the strong pull of Dr. Bawumia in satisfying the other factors of equality, fairness and inclusion.
Unless, the NPP party at this point are deviating from the mores of their tradition, for a so-called tier system, it is more likely than not, Dr. Bawumia's relevance, importance and stature would only get bigger and stronger as the lead candidate of the NPP party, most especially in a world where equality, fairness and inclusion forms an interplay of societal cohesion and strength and peaceful co-existence in a progressive and dynamic manner.
The weighted average of the traditional dynamic in the selection of the presidential candidate in the NPP party, more than trumps the tier system and that is where the NPP party finds itself at the moment.
Rather than seeing it as cause for infighting and strife, it has the potential to inure to the benefit of the NPP party, when viewed as a source of strength and opportunity, and as to why this seems not to be the case, is astounding.
Alhaji Dr. Bawumia is the new face of the NPP party and has demonstrated an acute and astute sense of brilliance, intelligence, nationalism and competence which should find political space and position within Ghana's socio-economic development and growth objectives in my humble opinion. He is an asset not just to the NPP, but to Ghana.
He cannot be the cause and source of infighting within the NPP party, if critically analyzed devoid of personal ambition and egos and situated firmly within the broader context of Ghana's development objectives, which by the way, is the most important and the most critical ingredient for political party representation in a working democracy.
The Dombo group have their candidate and he will lead Ghana after Nana Akufo Addo. That is where the NPP party is, that is where the NPP party is leaning towards and that is fortunately, the mainstream thinking.

It is the hateful and vindictive reaction of Akufo-Addo's to his perceived threat by Alan and the other competitors for the Presidency that has precipitated the infighting.

If people fell they have been in the game for far too long and cannot accept him as president, they should examine their minds. This guy is brilliant and had the potential of helping Ghana out of it's woes. Bawumaih thinks about his people. He would be comfortable with any international organisation but he thinks he own Ghana a duty to serve his people. I never supported Nana Addo of his choice of Bawumaih in the 2008 elections but I have supported him in 2012 and 2016 because he has been consistent with his choice which means he will deliver his promises if elected.

In my personal analysis based on this write-up,two things are clear.First,I don't see the influence Dr Bawumia exerts on the NPP administration and the general Command of Bawumia in the North or South of Ghana or,the powerhouse this writer talks about. I suspect Bawumia has not an iota of idea to disrupt or cause confusion and divisions in the NPP Party to have his way. Therefore,this article is a figment of Prof Boafo's imagination in my personal opinion.And if its the truth, it exhibit the level some people in the NPP feel shaky or threatened in Secrecy of Bawumia, b'cos of his Academic- Financial and Economics Analysis background advantage.And such people would not want to ask Bawumia questions at meetings b'cos they worship Degrees.(But,Christ said "Don't be afraid for I'm with you always").The question is,if there's a documented laiddown Succession Plan,why was Dr Bawumia Selected as the Deputy Flagship and not according to Succession Plan.

I agree with you. it is so sad to see the once mighty Danquah-Busia tradition with all its intellectuals now a pale shadow of itself. One must ask what impact has Bawumia had on the NPP to the extent that he is the cause of infighting. Since he became running mate NPP votes continue to diminish. He has not delivered the Northern vote. IN the 2000 run off Aliu Mahama enabled NPP to hit 41% of the vote in the Northern region and this was in the wake of being in opposition for 30 years. When the baton was given to Bawumia the NPP vote has never reached that point.

Second, the issue is now problematic in the sense that to be elected Nana Addo insisted it was his turn to lead the NPP. He inserted this clause into NPP's terminology. No one had used it before. Any NPP man knows that Bawumia's roots are not really NPP. InN effect he is a Johnny come lately. There are others, assuming Nana Addo does not win in 2016, who will insist that it is their turn. Even if they do not win the nomination, they have enough clout in the NPP to keep the party in opposition by boycotting the vote. My suspicion is that this is what has taken place since 2008. A look at Nana's decline in votes in the Ashanti region is instructive. If he had secured an increased turnout there by now he would be president. His failure to do so, to reach the heights Kufuor reached is his problem.

Any attempt by Nana to foist Bawumia on the party will meet with the same "turns" argument.

However what is more problematic is is Nana loses for as 3rd time I cannot see Bawumia having any credibility whatsoever. His face would have been on billboards since 2008 with no discernible impact on NPP fortunes. Thus what is new will be the question if Bawumia is produced as the man angling for the top job.

Prof Boafo should know that Ghana and its woes come at the hands of those so-called intellectuals; they know how to steal, justify their stealing and mismanagement and when caught do know how to lie but above all they know how to destroy any trailing paper work and foot prints; we are damaged economically because of the so-called intellectuals. People are not leaving their professional careers behind to become politicians in Ghana because they had successful business lives or in academia; they come to politics to steal and get the initial capital from tax payers to start front businesses. Can anyone point to prospering business do the hiring of Ghana educated but under employed since we have so many intellectuals? How about the economic world of Ghana's one and only economic guru Dr. Bawumia? What jobs are there in Ghana he can point to as his hand work?

THEY ARE SIMPLY SCARED OF Dr Bawumia. Of course, Mahamma and the NDC are all scared of Bawumia. The love and interest of people in Bawumia to become president cuts across party and tribal affiliation. That is the true mark of knowledge and integrity. Ghana and Africa can not continue to languish in poverty in the midst of plenty. Indeed, when Prof Martey shouted from the rooftops for the 'WISE' in Ghana, he inadvertently meant ppl like Dr Bawumia and his likes. There are many Bawumias from Ghana. I assure Ghanaians that one day, DR BAWUMIA SHALL BE PRESIDENT and on that day, many sons and daughters of knowledge and integrity shall team up with him to dispense good and honest leadership for Ghana.
