Judge Kyei Baffuor, nobody forced any lawyer to be a judge. Taking a bribe to FREE criminals is STEALING SAFETY from society. Now, if we go by your faulty, condescending and uncalled for logic, then teachers, doctors, nurses, civil servants, politicians (Oh, boy, they're like the corrupt judges), and several professionals SHOULD ALL BE STEALING and taking BRIBES—while doing their jobs.
Politicians, POLICE OFFICERS, several government workers, and now judges, are taking brides daily just by doing their PAID jobs. The judges have been taking bribes for years and they just got caught and from this, several high-end workers in Ghana will be very careful in doing their jobs.
Remember judge: Soccer players sign up to play ball but by so doing, they also sign up for big bucks ($$) or pay day. Just ask the Black Stars players of which about 99% are all playing abroad. If the paycheck for the judgeship aint’t kool for you guys then, heck, give it up and go into business for yourself or go sell drugs. Enough of the national disgrace is enough.

I believe people can respond to issues at stake in any way. That is part of free speech. But some responses coming from certain personalities who you think should 'think 3x' before commenting on their position leaves much to be desired. Or is it the media twisting things?
It is irrelevant, and very unprofessional, to speak about how taking a government position does not mean you have to be 'poor'. Such comments even if well intended raises questions about the Justice's integrity. The private sector is where you can boast about being rich or choosing it because you do not want to be 'poor'.
If you are a government employee you ought not make such reckless comments. What a Judge!

Anas was only able to cover a small number of Judges across the country. If he was to extend his undercover work, a lot more Judges would be caught taking all sorts of bribes. Assuming there were 2000 Judges in the country and Anas was able to cover only 200 Judges, which is just 10% of the Judges. Multiply those Judges found culpable by a factor 9, so as get the total across the whole country. The figure you get is enormous. Our judges are very corrupt. Corruption is endemic in the Judicial system in particular and the country's institutions in general. There is the mentality to enrich oneself fast whatever opportunity one gets.

"Seek yea first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness and all other things shall be added to you" I see the work of a judge to be above that of a priest, in the sense that the judgments of most priests and pastors are not questioned by the congregation in the sense in which judgments are subjected to appeals, reviews etc. As for material rewards judges cannot be said to be poor. Where ever they find themselves they are among the elite in the community. If they work hard and diligently and attain even the status of Appeal Court judges, they have made it for life. The is security of job, and sound assured retirement. What other incentives do judges need to escape from the daily scourge that ordinary Ghanaians are exposed to that will make them commit petty acts of corruption. Anas has demonstrated that corruption is not only a survival problem but that of greed.

Suddenly a new logic is been added to Ghanaian jargon. ' I did not take up my position to be poor'. Why has this logic become so popular among some professionals? The other day it was one spokesman of the Doctors who made that statement and now it has found an appeal among the judiciary. Govt is not a private enterprise working for profit to share to its staff and enrich them. The Govt gives employment to people to render services for salaries and wages. Becoming rich as a salaried Govt worker depends on how you manage the money paid to you since you don't have any other source of income. in that sense no worker should compare himself to a private sector worker who is motivated to work to become rich. And there is competition there. No one stops any Govt employee from joining the private sector to become rich. However statements like the above should not be made at all by responsible personalities. They might have chosen the wrong professions.

What about the ethics of the profession? I am surprised that this noble gentleman is talking about Judges not signing up for "poverty". Before you take the position, is it not clear what the salary and emoluments are? Once you leave the bench, can the person not go into farming, writing books, teach, business, charity or find some gainful activity to engage in? What about saving? As they have so many perks, can they not learn how to save and invest? How do judges in other countries survive? The mindset has to change. How are the aponkye, akonfem, yams and snails going to enrich the honoured judge? Let us get real. We are not serious at all.
