fast away, tree planting government funded projects on barren (desert) lands praying someday that God would transform them for the trees to grow, to young boys in the north who would be trained to ride bicycles their parents cannot afford to buy and a host of many others.These are issues cynics like me can't come to grips with. Why was the focus in the central region? Why were school shoes' donation limited to few but could not be carried forward to the rest of the nation. Now some of these free schools have been completed.Thank you.But we all know contractors might not be paid and might soon bolt away...as is normal practice at Ogyakurom. So it is not about the criticism of the idea,but rather more about its sustainability. How successful have you advanced the school feeding program,started by tax payers money.It may not have been on your to-do list!

What is Mahama's free SHS policy? John Mahama never had a free SHS policy and indeed, at the time it became a very topical issue, John Dramani Mahama said it was not doable.
The NDC party said it could not be done and Lee Ocran then a Min. of Education Official said, the free SHS program and policy that was being proposed by the NPP and Akufo Addo, could only be possible in the year 2030 after all the infrastructure ie schools had been constructed. Free SHS as a policy position of John Dramani Mahama was therefore just an afterthought, soemthing that had not been carefully, intelligently and competently well-thought through as a fundamental educational policy for this country.
Indeed, John Mahama and his NDC gov't made Ghanaians to understand that, the NDC policy was going to be hinged on quality, improving standards, teacher training, incentivizing teachers, increasing student enrollment, ensuring significant success rates in exams through effective teaching and learning, right-sizing student-teacher ratios etc, etc, and accessibility by constructing 200 SHS's in this country, with the first 50SHS's ready in 2013.
This is aside of the 10 new teacher training colleges, the technical schools in each district as promised by John Dramani Mahama.
A careful analysis of the quality and access policies of John Mahama shows an altogether fantastic and mind-boggling failure.
It would be interesting to note that, not only has educational standards in terms of quality gotten progressively worse, with teacher dissatisfaction resulting in strikes upon strikes, Ghana has been taking the last position on rankings such as the OECD. In addition, the failure rate of students has seen a progressive uptick for the worse to be described as completely dangerous for the future of this country. The NDC party and gov't's own political world bank in terms of voter population that is the Volta region have had cause to complain severally about the failing standards of education in the region.
In terms of access, of the 200SHS's promised in this country with 50SHS's ready in 2013, 2014 and 2015, and then subsequently 50 in 2016, only 2SHS's, yes, ie 1, 2 SHS's are ready in the latter part of the year 2015.
Clearly, this is not only a monumental failure of gargantuan proportions, but it is totally unprecedented considering the resources in terms of funds that have accrued to the John Dramani Mahama NDC gov't in it's almost 8 years in office.
The hurriedly adopted free SHS's policy by John Mahama as proposed by the NPP, which his gov't conveniently named progressive free SHS, shows panic, confusion, incoherence, lack of vision and a gov't that is totally out of it's depths in addressing the fundamental issues affecting the educational sector.
It is thus not surprising quality standards have gotten worse, the infrastructure/accessibility program has only 2 SHS's to show for it, with the soon to be rolled out progressive free SHS, an afterthought of John Mahama, also facing severe criticisms.
Clearly, there is no coherence, there is no thinking, there is no planning in the strategic educational development agenda of John Dramani Mahama NDC gov't and the fact that, they are all over the place shows a gov't whose policies and programs for the educational sector, as one absolutely underpinned by mediocrity, gimmickry and propaganda.
The reality is, Ghanaians have seen through all of it and they are saying the John Dramani Mahama NDC gov't will be fired massively at the ballot box in 2016 because governance as Ghanaians know it, is very, very serious business that requires thinking, planning, coherence, vision and the capacity and the ability to complete and get the job done satisfactorily.

Let your Minister of Education to put an end to that form of education. Acknowledge that your ideas was those of us who relentlessly advocated via the media to kick start education. It is also not Nana Akuffo - Addo ideas. All school building must be purposefully build to accomodate for the improvement and sports activities must be included in the school. cirrculum. Those of us in disapora who have worked with the system have beeter knowledge of outcomes than the Government who only visit a country and stays in hotels , talks to another President for a hour or two and then jets back. They never see what the background foundations of issues begin from. Having a glance of understanding is not the same as living there and experiencing that difference. hence why a clever Government woudl rather team up and work in partnership with those is diaspora across the golbe and embrace ideas of change which would benefit the entire country.
