I did not hear any other company stepping up and agreeing like E&P to help clear silt for free.

Even though Akomea, the blowhard, had some valid point such as engaging the Army Corp of Engineers, his attack on E&P was overly enphasized.

I cannot understand why so many in our government departments are qualified but sit on their asses and do nothing.

We in Ghana are so sick in the brain and quick to point fingers at someone without addressing points. This is not just the job of government. When thing like these happen it's the local communities and business that suffer the hard so why not mobilise the local people to stop using wTer ways and gutters as their easy option of disposing their rubbish. This is nothing to do with government especially our president. It's not his job to walk into communities to tell people what to do. There are civil servants who are paid for to enforce laws that protect such things happening again but rather sit down in offices and just chase bribes to line their long greedy pockets.

Ibrahim Mahama said he is doing this job for free but he will need fuel and payment of his workers from the government. eventually he said he spent 15M UDS three months(salaries) for 30 equipments. if even they run three 8hrs shift it will be 90 workers a month. so Ibrahim saying he paid his workers 5M USD/month ie GHc18,500,000/month ie 205,5555.55/ staff.can anyone believe that operators of such equipments are paid even GHC 30,000/month not talking of GHc205,5555.Never will they be paid such amount. so how can he spend USD 15m saleries of his workers for three months on that project. let's be frank this is putting dust in the eyes of Ghanaians.
is very sad how our leaders are deceiving us to enrich themselves. Let's us stand up as patriotic citizens devoid of party politics and say the truth else there will no future for the next generation.

It is not only about criticizing someone's effort. But get involved yourself and show what you can do. Akomea said any other person can do what Ibrahim did, now the opportunity is here? Let the NPP MPs stand up and be counted. The machines are still there. The challenge has been thrown to them to just a fraction of what Engineers and planners have done. Talk is really cheap. Ibrahim dredged only Odaw river, there are more gutters in Accra, where are the remaining public spirited Ghanaians. When you play politics with everything in the country a time will come when people will be dying and others with the means refusing to help. Thanks and shame to NPP MPs and especially Nana Akomea.

Their know-how is limited to thievery at the highest level and by any means. Settlements within 100 -200 metres from Accra's main drain will always be flooded whenever it rains, even if we succeed in removing every shred of garbage or sand frm the drains. This is why. The volume of storm water being carried by the Odaw from the interior is already huge. Now, given the landscape, any flodd water that should pour into the already-filled odaw, must virtually 'wait'. And because the settlements are not on a higher ground than the drain, any 'waiting' flood water will find its ways around....hence the heavy flooding we witness year-in year-out. Creating a wide-enough buffer zone along the main drain may help reduce the damage.

I still haven't heard any company voulunteering to desilt anywhere. I say unless someone can prove that Ibrahim has indeed taken advantage of the government, that he has benefitted more than the value of the volunteering effort, he should be left alone.

So the floods came and on June 3rd, 2015 over 150 Ghanaians perished and lost their lives.
A state of mourning was declared for God knows how long, with President's and envoys of neighboring countries trouping in to offer their condolences, with the NDC gov't appointees acknowledging a failure on all fronts and calling for drastic action to prevent the floods from ever happening again. John Mahama allocated a huge amount of money for victims of the flood and fire disaster who were lucky to escape death and were hospitalized from various injuries with the assurance his gov't was going to take care of all the bills. A national funeral was held for the dearly departed, even as donations from businesses and philanthropists, as well as well-wishers trickled in.
Not discounting the fact that the NADMO the body mandated to coordinate such disaster efforts did not have a supervising head prior to the disaster, and there was no emergency relief and evacuation plan and efforts, arising from the flooding, which has become an annual ritual.
Having deliberated and according to them, having found the solution to the perennial floods, the so-called Africa's best mayor and his gang started bulldozing and razing down structures they claimed were responsible for the floods because according to them, they were sited on waterways, which prevented free flow of rain water to the sea. Fuel stations were not spared in this exercise, with owners of some of these stations climbing to the roof of the offices of their stations to prevent them being razed to the ground, slum dwellers at Old Fadama which the John Mahama gov't said were responsible for the floods because of the rubbish they dumped into the Odaw river, had their shacks razed to the ground, and those with links to the NDC party and gov't were bused to the North from whence they came from, and those without any such links were left to their fate, until the major opposition leader stepped in with some amount of money to help them get back to their families in the North, to prevent the slums from forming again. Clearly to the John Mahama NDC gov't, that was part of the problem solved.
The demolishing of structures however, never abated and the almighty Odaw River which was identified by John Mahama and the so-called Africa's best mayor as the major cause of flooding became the focus of gov't and institutional attention, to deal a hefty and one-time lethal blow to flooding by dredging it.
The dredging process as identified, was given to Ibrahim Mahama the CEO of E&P, as the only individual and company with the expertise to SUPERVISE the dredging of the Odaw River, and also with the human resource to operate machinery for this process. This was against the many hydrological engineers, civil engineers, environmental engineers, etc, etc littered across the many depts and agencies and gov't ministries.
John Dramani Mahama through his Chief of Staff Julius Debrah thus, instructed the local Gov't Ministry to release newly acquired heavy duty equipment which had not even been registered and insured by gov't to Ibrahim Mahama, the brother of John Dramani Mahama to undertake this dredging exercise whilst fueling these equipment to ensure the successful operation of this exercise(Ghanaians are yet to know the cost of fuel used in this exercise).
In the course of undertaking this dredging exercise by Ibrahim Mahama, it was revealed the newly acquired heavy duty machinery was being used for the private projects of John Mahama's brother, but it was rubbished, and the dredging exercise, as Ghanaians were made to understand was going to address the flooding situation continued.
The opposition raised serious issues about the propriety of Ibrahim Mahama to dredge the Odaw river when there was the Army Engineers corps, the hydrological services dept, and a host of other agencies that could have undertaken this dredging exercise, but these were all rubbished by the Mahama's NDC gov't. The dredging of the Odaw River continued until Ibrahim Mahama said he was returning the heavy duty equipment because Ghanaians were just being envious of the work he was doing, although he just volunteered to deploy his "expertise and people" to help mitigate the flooding situation in the country because his brother the President said, Ghana could not wait for the CONTI project before addressing the flooding situation in Accra.
The opposition asked for him to pay for the full cost for the purchase of the heavy duty equipment and this was rubbished by Mahama's NDC gov't through it's mouth pieces saying it was a very senseless request and the opposition were not serious. Meanwhile it became known to Ghanaians that for an exercise which was voluntary and there was no contract, an amount of $20million dollars was doled out to Ibrahim Mahama the President's brother for a good job well done.
The test of having fixed the perennial flooding situation in Accra through the dredging of the Odaw river came, and the rains poured, and the very place which was flooded in June was once again flooded to the very same extent, just that this time around, there was no fire accompanying the floods.
It is must be noted that, of the two rainy seasons in the country, this period ie the September to November rainy season is the mildest of the two, with the April to July rainy season being the heaviest. However, after all John Dramani Mahama and his family and friends NDC gov't did, the rains came and the flooding situation remained the same.
Folks, let us be honest with ourselves, does this John Dramani Mahama NDC gov't and it's family and friends looting brigade really know what paaaaaa they are doing in this country? Ghana needs to examine itself and ask ourselves again. Does the John Dramani Mahama NDC gov't really understand and know what paaaaa it says it is doing?

All these "leaders" are simply glorified bush men. They travel all over the advanced countries but cannot comprehend that modern city planning requires proper sewerage construction and underground engineering with pumping stations. Not huge, wide open gutters on each side of roads as the do-nothing British colonial exploiters introduced into the country!

If we don't have money to retrofit, we should learn to stop litering into gutters and environment.
