Mahama will encourage the production and exportation of another primary product. Why doesn't he set up industries to process what we produce already such as cocoa, cashew, tomato, mango, yam, plantain and so on to add or increase the value? Mahama should know that growing coffee is a very labour intensive work. Who is going to provide labour? The unemployed youth, ageing farmers or "foreigners"?

African will never be developed if they always think agro-based economies. I am not downplaying agriculture, but just look at the so-called advanced countries... we need to pay extra attention to industrialization.

Why bet on another primary commodity which we can't process in the country.
Corn or maize is relatively easier to cultivate and can be process in Ghana. The crop is consumed just about every where in our Su region and beyond. Large scale production of maize can be processed into poultry, fish and livestock feed, which would help our farmers to produce cheaper protein products.
Currently, Ghana spends almost $2 billion on imported poultry, fish and meat products. Our farmers cannot compete with these product because the price of maize, a major input of animal feeds is too erratic.
Mr Mahama, if you are really serious about boosting Agribusiness, employment, food security and saving hard currency, you should revamp maize and soy beans farming.
