There is also the Ghana Armed Forces who are supposed to do the job without been commanded by the President. Is the Ghana armed forces sleeping on their duty? The floods occurred in June and we are now in October, meaning three months ago and why is it a case not not Plant Pool or any other contractor offered its services to the state than Ibrahim Mahama's company. For now he has dredged 40% with his expertise for free. Let other people also come forward and emulate him. After all the equipment are still around.
Someone tell the NPP that they are losing support of the 20% floating voters with this kind of arguments. I guess there are many more issues they could bring forward that would win them support/ sympathy from the floating voters.
What they are doing presently is just shooting themselves in the foot.

Where was Akomea when the opportunity to look for a foreign partner to drill our Oil was given to the two best friends of the former President Kufuor, with a guaranteed share of 3.5% of our Oil?

It is such blatant discriminatory criticism of a canker that has eaten up the entrails of our democratic polity, that irks me. Our Heads of States and Ministers have long been known to be indulging in cronyism. But our Politicians would never complain so long as such behavior favor's their favorite leaders, and their Parties. It is only when the opponents in power is using the same rotten methods to skim us that they complain.

Let us hear Akomea say President Kufuor could have sent other Citizens not close to him to undertake such a quest for such a cool, handsome commission.

Yep! That is how Ghanaian Capitalism operates. Opportunities are reserved by the Powers in charge to themselves and their cronies alone, under the guise of some "Property Owning" Democracy.

Ghana is the only country I have heard of among those claiming to be Capitalist Democracies where the President or Head of State personally and solely shuts the door to negotiate the sale of the Nation's Assets to foreign private Businesses in secret without allowing Public Procurement Bidding procedure to take place.

Our Governments are averse to inviting bids for Government Contracts. They are used to and vigorously protective of their corrupt sole-sourcing practice to ensure their cronies only get the big Contracts, which, I strongly believe, yield lucrative profits for them to share. Proceeds from such deals often end up in Safe Havens abroad--in the foreign Banks in Switzerland, Bahrain, Bahamas, Cayman Islands and others.

Our general Population has long been kept ignorant enough in such matters as Government Procurement, so as to allow the continued milking of our State Assets without any public outcry. It is only when one side of the Political aisle feels its time to take over the driver's seat to control the flow of loot into its Accounts that the Public would just be lucky to hear about some charge of corruption against the incumbent power and its cronies.

Well, now, the time is getting shorter and shorter for the Public to know of such evil corruption, and theft of our State Assets by the few. We should not let the quest for accountability abate, but increase the pressure to bear on the powerful Politicians to expose their nefarious activities. This we have to continue with all Administrations, regardless of their Political leanings.

There are several excavator operators at Abofu near Achimota and there are tipper truck drivers at Mallam junction. There was no need to have given the equipment to E&P. Government could have employed the excavator operators and the tipper truck drivers. I am an excavator operator myself and any excavator operator could have done that job. It is just the normal operation of an excavator and normal driving of a tipper truck. There is nothing extraordinary about the dredging. There is some hidden reason why John Mahama asked Ibrahim Mahama to do that job. We can remember that government of Ghana chartered Ibrahim Mahama's private jet to Iran while Ghana's presidential jet was in good condition and sitting idle in Accra. This kind of governance will only benefit John Mahama and Ibrahim Mahama and their families and friends.

While I see Akomea's side in pointing out that the Army Corp of Engineers could have been deployed to handle this, I do not see anything wrong with E&P doing the work.

Even if Ibrahim used the equipment on his private jobs, we should probably at this point just get an evaluation in place to do cost benefit analysis of this whole effort and move on. The reckless attacks on Ibrahim are not necessary.

I am tired of hearing of Ibrahim, but also tired of the whining.

The dredging of the Odaw River is a multi-million dollar project and that is why it has been lying undone for such a long time. Nobody would be willing to do it for free even if the Government is ready to provide the machines needed because the machines require a lot of skilled and expensive labour to operate.
This is where Ibrahim Mahama, being the brother of the President and hence being concerned for his brother, the President to succeed, offered the skilled labour of his company free for the Government's machines to be used for the dredging.
There cannot be conflict of interest when a public official's relative or friend offers helping hand without receiving any reward. For instance if a fallen tree has blocked traffic, there is no conflict of interest if the President's brother voluntarily goes to remove the fallen tree to clear the road. Conflict of interest would only be applicable if he (the President's brother) submits a bill for the work he has done to be paid. In other words, the relative's motivation is not to gain any reward but just to ensure the public official whom he cares for, succeeds in his mandate. If the concern of all friends or relatives of a public official is not to profit unduly from their closeness to the public official but to assist him to succeed in his appointment without any material gain as Mr Ibrahim Mahama has done, that will be a good news.

I wonder why NDC Government always wants to treat Ghanaians like kids. It is time all meaningful Ghanaian stand-up against such deceptions. Though E&P had a good mind set to offer great assistant to the Nation yet by tagging the State equipment with his company logo was absolutely wrong. STC cannot put their logo on VIP bus if STC is tasked to convey troops for National assignment and VIP releases their vehicles for STC to beef up their fleet to carry out the National assignment. The equipment supposed to bear the State logo even if E&P wished to add theirs; so that anybody seeing them could identify that they belong to the State. My advice to Ibrahim Mahama is that he should be very careful of trying to offer assistant to the State. “If you use your penis to put medicine into your daughter’s private part; you will be charged of incest” Though there was need to get the medicine to the girl’s private part to heal her. That is what Ibrahim Mahama has done. He should apologize to the State and the state also thank him for a good job done.

Another way or progressive and modern way of looking at the E&P logo on gov't equipment is "Marketing". A Contractor doing such a major dredging may want to advertise his Company. That doesn't mean he planned to transfer ownership to the name of his Company.
Have a progressive mind,please!.

Watching the political scene and news on the TV and press from my sofa in London as an independent Ghanaian. I do feel that there are key figures in the NDC who want to undermine the president. There have been several occasions that the president has had to step in to resolve petty ministerial decisions. May be he has to blame himself for appointing inexperienced and quality ministers. If he has competent and experienced ministers around him they would have realised that asking EP to do the dredging would be a conflict of interest.

So there should be competitive bidding if when one philanthropist makes a proposal to assist the state. In that case, anytime the Gov't has a proposal for assistance, the gov't must go searching for 3 or 4 other philantropists who provide the same assistance and compare who will do it better and then choose the best amongst them.
What an absurdity.
When the floods had suddenly taken everybody by surprise and everyone knew the cause was the Odaw river and the meteo unit had predicted more rains, Akomea wanted the gov't to spend some more weeks and months shopping for the best philanthropist?
Is this not an absurd suggestion. Does Akomea think about his suggestion and whether it was the best decision to take in the circumstances? Or is the obsession to win power by any means making some people block-headed?
Oh God save us if this mentality will be used to rule Ghana in the near future.
Akomea should do his philanthropist tenders if ever he wins power but the need to save lives in the circumstances makes it absurd to start asking for other philantropists before lives are saved.
Ibrahim was at the Melcom disaster, he was on the Tema motorway when urgent repairs were required. He makes money but is not greedy to spend it alone. He will not build hotel wawaa or shopping Malls. Even if he does he gives back to the needy
Afterall, instead of staying aloof to critise, Akomea could have also looked for the other philantropists he knows and sent them to the Odaw river. I do not think the Gov't will have refused him and may be the work will have been done better and faster.
Save lives but don't look for means to come to power by all means.
Just criticizing for the sake of it will not win elections for you.
Ghanaians are more discerning and not stupid as you might take them to be

By the way did NPP notice the President's brother use his machines to help in the Melcom disaster? They also didn't the same president's brother repair portions of the Accra-Tema motorway that had deteriorated badly, all free of charge? What about the 3 story building that collapsed recently at Cantonment and the free assistance offered by the President's brother? All this while where was Akomea and his bucn of saboteurs?
