Mr. Mahama is exactly one of the visionless African leaders that have always been accused of misplacing their priorities. Does the NDC government think, despite the massive corruption, they can borrow recklessly and spend their way foolishly into another mandate in 2016, when the nation is over burdened with HIPC and workers wallowing in hunger and over taxed?

Governance under the NDC government is all about deceit and 'opium of the people'. They enjoy everything under the sun but ask us to wait for our basic needs in heaven. And as they ask us to tighten our belts for future betterment, they have already loosened theirs for immediate consumption. They didn't even respect our intelligence when they asked us to wait for a paradise in three years. The truth is that, everything they promise is a mirage and we will never find comfort under them because; they are con-men with con plans.

This is based on certain categories, not enough to include Knust, as if the developer of knust has done wrong. Ghana's concentration of institution has basically flourished in Accra or SOUTH OF the nation, even, though, knust have the campus to accomodate many faculties to enhance the nation. Since Kwame Nkrumah, I don't think something have been added. It has to come of under government for autonomy for proper updates. Old students should play a part in modernising for better international exposures.

The University is a community that seeks to develops minds. By virtue of a country's socio-economic hassles, the impact on that country's Universities may not be ruled out.

What the RANKING authorities need to do is this:

(1) About academic performance: GET THE EXAMINATION BODIES TOGETHER. SET RELEVANT QUESTIONS. SELECT THE BEST 5 STUDENTS PER FACULTY AND LET THEM TAKE THESE EXAMS.

(2) About the Tutorial Staff:

SET UP RESEARCH TOPICS RELEVANT TO THE FIELD OF STUDY (e.g DEVELOP WATER IN THE LIBYAN DESERT) AND LET THESE PROFESSORS TAKE THESE SESSIONS AND WE SHALL ALL SEE WHOSE ACHIEVES WHAT.

In the absence of the above, all the so-called RANKINGS is mere talk-talk.

We need to take a serious look at our education system, it must be tailored to meet the basic needs of society. We need to investigate and rid the system of corruption and then invest more in the youth. Equip all the schools with the needed teaching aids. 4 walls, a roof, chalk and blackboard does not make a school. The teachers must be well motivated and they must be disciplined that means rules must be enforced. Science labs must be well equipped and the needed teaching aids must be provided. We must start computer education from kindergarten because everything is computer these days. We must be aggressive if we want to catch up with the rest of the world, we are falling behind.

Ghana still lack certain requirement irrespective of academic achievements. To mentioned but a few. My daughter attended kotoka international school. Burma camp and on their arrival to one of the US middle schools their academic performances was on target if not above target and they are doing well so far dispute challenges. Never under estimate your own i iversities in Ghana even though Ghana does not have the the technology apparatus to equate to the develop countries. But still be proud of your ranking and improve on what is left To be achieved. If if corruption in ghana can be minimized if not eliminated entirely. God bless Ghana and God bless the Lecturers at the universities.

Many of our lecturers studied at home and at institutions in the US, Britain, Canada, Japan, Germany etc. They all excelled. What they need when they come home to Ghana are adequate opportunities and funding for research and development. Industry and governments must provide the incentives to push Legon and other Universities to higher levels of achievements. We should look at what the great Universities are doing and add the best to our lot.

In the late 1980s, the late VC Prof. K. Dickson, then VC of UCC was at the end of agitations for his removal. His sin? Asking that Lecturers should only be promoted after writing - publishing articles, doing research etc. By writing, Prof Dickson included even articles in the Daily Graphic and The Ghanaian Times. Prof. Dickson pointed to me one example. A Lecturer who had his PHD in over 10 years and had not published a single paper/article. This Geography Lecturer had not been promoted and was raising hell.

This little story is to illustrate to readers the bane of most Ghanaian academics - the failure to conduct research and publish such findings, writing books or just writing simple articles. Have we forgotten the various strikes by these same University dons recently for non-payment of book and research allowances?

In the academic world, universities are respected, among others,for the type of research their academic staff conduct. So long as we don't do this, and treat book and research allowances as pure income for our university lecturers, our academic institutions will not be respected and accredited accordingly.

UG, IBADAN AND MAKERERE WERE FOUNDED BY A COLONIAL POWER WITH COLONIAL ETHOS. UG RESISTED DR KWAME NKRUMAH'S EFFORTS TO REORIENT THE ETHOS AND MISSION OF THE UNIVERSITY. KNUST, UCC AND OTHERS WERE FOUNDED WITH GHANAIAN MISSION WHICH ARE IRRELEVANT TO THE RANKING OF TES. SO THESE UNIVERSITIES ARE NOT INFERIOR AND TES RANKING IS EQUALLY IRRELEVENT.

Teachers are in hurry to go and teach private schools living the students without any better guide lines to go and do their own research. Teachers do not do any research but always fighting for research allowance. Teachers still give students note which has been prepared over 20 to 30 years. It is sad and pathetic. KNUST which is supposed to be the back bone of Ghana development is now like a polytechnic. Ghana now produces talkertives instead of scientists.

The University of Ghana does not even need ranking because the quality of a University is based on two key areas ; the quality of the students who come out and are emplyed in both the private and public sectors ; secondly it depends on the quality of management skills both science and the humanities ; if you look at the quality of Legon and KNUST are just below quality top of our civil service which most or graduates end are just USELESS ; the quality is so low it reflects in the quality of performance ; we have in ghana hve no quality graduates they all USELESS AND NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE .
