My first impression of Ms. Osei was positive based on her past background of the institutions she has served. I also thought she will be bi-partisan coming to an institution like the Electoral Commission despite being appointed by the sitting president and his political party. I agree that demonstrations must be peaceful, but you are wrong to say that Ghanaians can't picket at EC because you have staff, customers,security and all that. Picketing means demonstrating by citizens to express their opinions about current issues in any public institution like the EC. Remember citizens can demonstrate peacefully at any public institution like the seat of government, parliament, all public institutions WHICH ALL HAVE SENSITIVE AND IMPORTANT DATA AS WELL. The EC is no exception. Demos are carried out at the UN, White House in the US and many sensitive locations around the globe in countries that practice democracy. If Ghana wants to practice democracy, institutions headed by leaders like Ms. Osei must respect and protect citizens rights regardless how uncomfortable they may feel. I am a bi-partisan citizen when it comes to national issues because I want my children and grand children to have a better future. Judging by the tone of Ms. Osei, she does not seem to respect the citizens she is directing her message to. Do not try to please your appointing authority because you sound too much like some of them refusing reforms, or you will fail miserably. Be professional and bi-partisan.

Trying to intimidate mandated institutions to go one's way is a wrong approach to dialogue. For someone to threaten a legitimate institution that, "if you don't do it my way then there will be disaster", it shows how much such a person does not care for the peace and stability of the state. Someone who loves Ghana would not talk like that. To such a person, the national interest is of little or no concern; only his/her selfish interest of winning power matters - this has been the distinct signature of Nana Akufo Addo, the leader of the opposition. The only thing he cares about is how to become president of Ghana. Is it not interesting that under the leadership of Akufo Addo, the NPP now has armed militias who are ready to tear their opponents into pieces?
Anyone who in the name of his/her freedom to demonstrate would like to picket in the compound or premises of a state institution, either is so naive or has some evil intentions. This is because, the picketing would surely disrupt normal business of the institution. Under Akufo Addo, we are seeing not only armed militias, but also things like "occupy flagstaff house", "picketing", "naked demonstrations by women" etc which all go to confirm his "all-die-be-die" declaration. Akufo Addo is clearly a man of violence.

Unless of course the gov't has instructed the Police Service and the EC not to entertain the Petition from the LMVCA, then the fixation on that so-called picketing ad opposed to receiving the PETITION is much ado about nothing.
The concept of sending a petition to a park when the institution for which the petition directly concerns is there, doesn't make any sense and exposes the huge, gaping and glaring disconnect between honest institutional engagement and the citizenry and it is disconcerting.
Has it occurred to political and governance experts to interrogate what is happening here because in a democracy where citizens cannot engage with their institutions directly, then you don't have a democracy.
It is a hoax and sends all the wrong signals and it is not surprising in the least bit, that bribery and corruption has become institutionalized in the body politic of this country.
The senseless act of preventing the LMVCA from picketing to present their petition to the EC is an unwarranted and unnecessary distraction and commonsense needs to prevail unless, it is the position of the gov't, the EC and the Police Service not to accept the petition of the pressure group LMVCA, and that we all know will not happen in this country.
The petition will be presented and the EC will have to receive it the the EC and not at a park and an agreement needs to be reached as to how this has to be done because Ghanaians will present their petitions to institutions concerned at the site of those institutions, and nowhere else.
