You lot in the north should blame yourselves for that gap you have been referring to always without doing a thing to improve conditions over there. Southerners are not to blame for the gap, because for all these years that you've been enjoying free education at their expense, they hardly complain. Why then do you demean yourself so much to tell the nation such stupid childish stories. You should have discussed this with your family for their comments before coming this far to tell the nation this story of a northern fool on runaway guinea fowls.
If individual citizens have to work hard to earn their living, why wouldn't we have to develop a system in which every individual region will have to work hard for its own development without relying on others for survival.

I hate to hear that nonsense that the North is underdeveloped. Money and resources are being pumped to the North since before independence in 1957 ; indulgences like fee-free education from kindergarten to college is being made available to people who, normally, would be riding on donkeys and sweating on their scrotum in the desert heat. Yet when they wash their faces with "pito langa" and come down south, they don't go back. Who do they want to develop the North for them when they have all become "sikadicious" like the Nastional Service Scheme fraud, while subjecting the whole country toperpetual "dumsor"? Think again.

If the above is the fact at the NDP commission and a CEO, is alleged to have said this, it smacks of contempt for the both the objectives and aims of NDP and SADA respectively!

Just what kind of program is the Guinea Fowls project hinged upon? Is it some Game and Wildlife Program to increase the population of the Fowls in the Wild, or the Fowls were supposed to be domesticated and caged?

It all sounds totally ridiculous to refer to the Guinea Fowls returning from Burkina Faso to the SADA Project without giving the details of what the program really is.

Right now, many are chuckling about this 'return of the Guinea Fowls', suspecting that the SADA Project Manager is simply lying about his claim that the Fowls ever migrated to the Burkina Faso.

These justifiably skeptic folks think the Funds for the SADA project was simply squandered, and following the ensuing Public uproar, the Manager got hurried up to retrieve some of the Funds to purchase some of the animals to repopulate the area with them. If this scenario could be really the case, I would deem the Managers of the SADA very lucky that they even had the time outside jail to attempt to correct their massive fraud.

In fact, if such a Guinea Fowl Project really ever existed, the Public deserves to know under what scientific scheme it was and is supposed to function. We have to know who is giving the technical advice on it and how exactly the program is being run.

Meanwhile, we also want to know who authorized the so-called Guinea Fowls program under the SADA Project, in he first place, and just how the original proposal was designed, and what it entails.

All these questions need be answered thoroughly, now, before we encounter yet another SADA Guinea Fowls migration episode. The SADA Project Manager must tell us if the Fowls are expected to flee again to the Burkina Faso, and when he expects them to do so and return. Did the Fowls just return to Ghana because the Fowls were scared of the new and recent Military Coup in Burkina Faso, or what? LOL!! If the Birds are following some natural periodic migration pattern, that must be intelligently articulated to the Public. And if that were so, SADA ought to understand that it would have to seek an international coordination with our Burkinabe counterparts on ecological preservation or Conservation of Nature to most effective monitor the population and movements of the Birds.

If SADA chooses to do it all alone but still claims the Birds have some flight risk that would eventually lead many of them in the Bambara soup of Burkinabes, then it would idiotic to spend our Tax Payers Fund on the program.

Our hard-earned Funds must not be thrown away into some dubious projects that serve only as a front for corrupt Officials to loot the State, or go to provide rich sumptuous meals to Citizens of other Nations at our total expense.

If the Guinea Fowls that our SADA Funds have been allotted to rear could so easily flee, without 'passport and visa', of course, to other foreign countries, their return of which is not guaranteed, I would reiterate that such a program is, at best, an abject stupidity.

If the Guinea Fowls program was ever seriously planned, it would have been strictly under the Game and Wildlife Department's supervision. It is only under such an authentic Bio-ecological Institution that a project like that could be even remotely possible.

It is common to find a Game and Wildlife program elsewhere in the World to either protect, repopulate, or increase the population certain animal species. Such is often established for rare and endangered species, especially, those upon whom significant part of the lifestyle of the people in the area depends. And mostly, such programs would be under the auspices of, or, at least, in collaboration with, any of the following: the World Wildlife Fund, the United Nations, IUCN (the International Union for the Conservation of Nature), or similar international Organizations. It is only when the originators and Managers of SADA expect to milk the project for their personal selfish ends would they fail to pursue a close association of the Program with any of these Institutions. When dealing with these Institutions, SADA would have no choice but be transparent and engage the best of services from top experts in the field from all over the World.

So, would the SADA Authorities tell the Public what kind of international affiliation they have sought for and been working with for the eminent success of the program?

Similar programs to protect or resuscitate Wildlife, Fisheries and Forests around the World have been enormously successful with the inclusion of these genuine globally resourceful Institutions. If the SADA Project has no such close participation of any of these Institutions, I would seriously doubt the real motive behind it.

We must therefore push the Authorities in SADA to open up not only their books for thorough accountability but also to facilitate the participation of these above-named Institutions, even if the ultimate goal of SADA is for some Commercial or Financial windfall.

The Chief Executive Officer of SADA delivered an excellent paper on the development plan of the SADA ecological area to the admiration of all present at the National Development Planning Consultative Forum in Tmale. In his bid to stress home his conviction that SADA had come to stay and therefore needed the right resources to succeed, he spiced his delivery with a stress relieving sense of homour, thus the 'guinea fowls have started coming home' to wit, the benefits of SASA have started showing up. The reporter portrayed an erroneous impression as though the CEO only spoke of how the guinea fowls have started coming back from Burkina.

It is very strange how a simple joke that the audience in Tamale fully got, given how loudly they laughed about it, gets made into a matter of fact. Even more strange is how everybody seems to believe it, starting with the original "SADA guinea fowls have flown to Burkina Faso" story. This too was a joke made by a journalist at an FM studio - not by a SADA staff - which got picked up and widely relayed as a fact.

Only people who do not know enough about the guinea fowl or care to understand or bother to ask questions can take the "guinea fowls have flown to Burkina" story seriously.

First the guinea is not a migratory bird. It cannot fly over long distances, let alone remember where it had come from to return to that place.

Secondly, the guinea fowl cannot fly laterally for more than a few minutes. It tends to fly up the wall and on the branches of shorter trees - more vertically than horizontally. when it descends it does so at an angle and over a short distance.

3rd it does more running than flying.

PUT SIMPLY, THE GUINEA FOLW IS INCAPABLE OF MIGRATING OVER LONG DISTANCES. They cannot fly, singularly or enmass to Burkina Faso from Bolgatanga let alone alone Tamale.

Therefore, anyone who remotely understands the guinea fowl, will recognise what I said, or the original story, as nothing but a joke.

Does anybody care for the truth or even basic understanding? It will help the quality of our journalism, to seek at least knowledge to inform what we write.

SO LET ME REPEAT, I MADE A JOKE. THE AUDIENCE IN TAMALE WHO KNOW MORE ABOUT GUINEA FOLWS LAUGHED. THAT IS IT. Anyone interested in facts can ask any of the district officials form DCEs to NDPC officials what was actually said.

Journalism is a serious profession. I though at GJA once - in 1995 when Kojo Yankah was heading it. We need to take our journalists seriously. Tod do so, they need to earn our respect.

As for SADA, it will thrive and no attempts to ridicule it can stop that. We are open to any journalists who wants to ask serious questions.
