  Let us all respect universal adult suffrage. It is a fact that issues concerning the right of people to self determination are resolved through universal adult suffrage. Thus the disintegration of states like Sudan was resolved through universal adult suffrage which is the most peaceful means of solving the issues of the right of people to vote and govern their state.
  It is also a fact that apart from newly independent states no state in Asia, Americas and Europe were established through universal adult suffrage. The existing societies in those countries came out through the force of arms. However the world and they themselves have accepted the status cuo, as it was established on those violent incidents, some ending with members of one family been the executive of their countries for years. It was also the same countries that accepted the remains fascism in Southern Europe which was later extended to Latin America.
  It is also an undeniable fact that the U.S. and her NATO allies never call for mass action to overthrow fascism in Europe, Latin America, fascist colonial regimes in Africa and apartheid regimes in Southern Africa. It means that NATO member countries and their quislings abroad, including Ghana supported a peaceful transition from those antidemocratic regimes to democratic ones. Thus there was no support for mass demonstration, which most of the time turns violent to overthrow such regimes.
  When the people of Eastern Ukraine want independence they did not take up arms but had a referendum, that is exercising their right to universal adult suffrage to achieve their right to self determination. The people of Scotland followed this year by having a referendum to decide on if they should still be part of Britain.
  When a president of a country decides to extend his terms of office there are legal requirements that he or she must fulfill. Through a vote in parliament or a referendum which are all enshrined in all constitutions around the world.
  I am of the view that since those who are against the extension of the terms of office of a president also have a democratic right to campaign against that extension, thus they must use that democratic means to arrive at that. Let us not support mob actions of people who disagree with a person or group of people extending their term of office.
  At the time of the overthrow of Blaize Campore two years ago he was still the president of that country. For the world to accept the truth and fairness it is not Campore who subverted the constitution of Burkina Faso, but the soldiers who were supported by the world community including Ghana to came to power through the force of arms. What happened in Burkina Faso two years ago was like the Ghana Police assisting demonstrators to go and burn down the Electoral Commission and destroy all the equipment and documents there because they want a new voter register.
  The regime which came into power and was overthrown two days ago came through the force of arms and have to go through the force of arms because that is the principle that the international set up for the change of government in Burkina Faso. It is a universal norm that governments must be changed through the principles of universal adult suffrage - parliamentary and presidential election, through vote by the representatives of the people in parliament and through a referendum. Let us all grow up, accept the rule of law and order, so that we can have peace on this home of us call Earth, but not undermine the same principles of the rule of law and order, which main bases are the courts settling disputes, parliament voting on issues and making laws, the population deciding on issue through the circles of voting for members of parliament, president and referendums.
