This does not mean He (Abedi) detest genuine move move to Asian or hate you. This advice should have rather come from you Gyan and not Abedi. Abedi did not discount Asian football but why should strive for Good when excellence exist. Am rather disappointed in you Gyan for not understanding a candid and courageous opinion from a Ghanaian Legend. Grow up Man. All the Best.

...Abedi Pele is damn right on the competitive armor that these Ghanaian/African players may bring to bear on international soccer fiesta; such as the World cup and the African nations’ cup.
But so as Abedi Pele is right on the “competitive readiness” of some of Ghana’s players, Asamoah Gyan is also right on the money. I think African players should capitalize on their God-given talents and developed skills for their own current and future economic and business health. That’s non-negotiable.
The victim in all this, however, is Ghana. Our local teams are losing players to the high paying countries, "courtesy of the corrupt & selfish nature of our leaders", who have STOLEN and MISUSED all the revenues from our Oil, Gold, Diamonds, Bauxite, Iron ore, Cocoa, Timber, Taxes, Import duties and Truck loads of international LOANS.
How come on God’s green Earth that league players in Ghana can’t be paid as little as $1,500 a month and you expect them to turn down multimillion dollar deals abroad??
It is unquestionably true that scoring goals in China, Lebanon, Kuwait, Kosovo, Russia, Afghanistan, or “Muumuukrom’ isn't the same as scoring goals in England, Italy, Spain, Germany, France, etc. Therefore, in the end, we would wound up with "highly paid players, who would put up some doggone mediocre performance in international competitions." So, by this trend of “player flight to Sikakrom”, Ghana can forget about winning any future international games—our players can’t match up!!

U guys are getting the whole thing wrong. Abedi Pele's point was that the early rush to Asia will not be Gud for Ghana in the future. He believes players shd make their mark in Europe and use Asia as the last stop just as he did. Even though I disagree with him for the fact that the players are looking for money to take care if themselves and their families, and not patriotism. Patriotism hasn't fed anybody. Nonetheless we have to put what the firmer maestro said into the right perspective.

Abedi is right and I don*t understand why Gyan is "disappointed" with Abedi's statement! Gyan is no more the young Gyan of 21 at the WC 2006 and he had made his name as a good striker before going "arabic"! Muntare, KPB are in their early 30 or getting there and have üplayed top clubs till now! But fur Agyman-Badu, Sumaila , Wakaso and these other young players rather chasing the petro-dollars in the arabic leagues, that is what gets one worried. Let*S face facts and admit, that the arabic league or asian league is still lower quality as compared with the european league! Abedi supported Gyan going to play in the arabic league, because Gyan has already proved his worth in the European league and had reached his peak! It was time for him to start thinking about his future and "pension"! How many Ghanaians would support Baba if he were to join a club in Kuwait (with more pay) than chelsea or even still remain at Ausburg?? Gyan did not understand Abedi's statement and concern, he took the statement personal, thinking (like a lot of Ghanaians) Abedi was referring to him personally in that statement! Can it be that Gyan himself is doubting his own achievements in the arabic (asian) league???

Gyan, I understand you had the chance to return to the EPL with Liverpool but turned down the opportunity because they offered you less than the $300,000.00 weekly wage which the Shanghai club put down on the table.Yes Abedi played in Qatar in his first stint as a professional footballer. But he used that opportunity to launch his career in Europe, he caught the attention of OM. It was a progression which launched him into the limelight. But what perhaps concern him as well as myself is that players are now preferring to move to the Arab World motivated by money rather than development of their football careers. The problem is there is real danger of our young promising talents following suit which I believe will in the long run be detrimental to the success of our national teams. tlaents

Gyan and all other Ghanaian players have their destinies in their own hands. They have nobody to please except themselves.
There cannot be anything wrong with plying one's football career in Asia provided your human rights are well taken care of. Whatever Abedi said is just an opinion and not the words of an oracle. We can all attest to the fact that, Gyan's form has not been affected negatively by his sojourn in Asia as the maestro Abedi seems to be suggesting. If we can recall, just before he left England for Al Ain, he was having a nagging problem of persistent injury but ever since he went to Asia, that has subsided. Im not a prophet but I can say with a high degree of certainty that, had Gyan remained in England all this while, he would have retired from soccer by now due to injury.
Playing in Europe also has its own risks. For instance if you are not fielded regularly, you stand the risk of losing form in no time. Also, the level of competition is so high that, you are proned to injury. Gyan is still playing at the highest level because of the motivation be is being given.
Those who seem to be against the quest for money should try to find out why Ghanaian players do not want to stay long in the local league. There is nothing morally wrong about exchanging one's talents for money.

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. First abedi Pele, followed by Gyan in response. In my opinion, i would love to see our players featured consistently. I do not like having our players on the bench ay all times. Andre Ayew made the best choice and on the otherhand a superb player like Wilfred Boney only gets featured as sub for the last 10 minutes at Man City compared to a regular starter at Swansea. I personally think since Asamoah is beibg consistent and continues his goal scoring attribute, these is a confidence boosting factor beneficial to the Ghana Blackstars.
Thank you

Amy one who saw Osei Kofi during his prime would agree that he is the best player Ghana has produced. Like Pele, he never joined any club outside his country, but it is easy to make the decision. Abedi himself cannot say he was a better dribbler than Osei, there is no one better than Osei when it comes to dribbling, not even Messi. Believe it or not, "not even Messi" Only few people that saw him are still living today and that is why "mice" are jumping up and down because the cat is old and no more interested in "praises or honours" I challenge Abedi to come out and tell the whole world that he was a better player over all than Osei Kofi. I must also speak for Robert Mensah because many of the people living today did not see him, many think Olele is the best Ghana has ever seen, he is not, Robert is.

I don`t see why A.Gyan should be disappointed by Abedi`s comments. It`s true the Asian leaque is less competitive than European leaque. So if Gyan wants to maintain his national team selection he should find a team in Europe. But, on the other hand don`t forget Gyan has been a great help to Ghana and is still a great help. Don`t forgt that it is impossible for a player to maintain his TOP-FORM all his life. If Gyan at his age can not compete with the ab-and-coming ones in Europe we should be grateful that he, Gyan is still going strong with a contract. Remember the case of Kingson and many others, who eventhough were in form but could not get a team or contract. I hope Gyan is not offended by Abedi`s comments but rather work hard to prove to us that he is still the motivational leader we all know. Good luck.

One or two footballers playing in the Arab or Asian Leagues won't be a problem. However, it is becoming a TREND for Ghanaian players to want to go there. And that's what the Maestro is concerned about just as most of us are as well. As you rightly pointed out, the Maestro had played there before and that's actually why he has the credibility than anybody else to talk about it. Asamoah, you should be candid to yourself. You have played in some of the best leagues in the world. And you must admit that the Arab league is substandard. The only attraction in playing there is the financial reward and NOT the quality of play. So do not take Abedi's comment personal. You should rather advise those that want to follow that if it be for the financial rewards, they should come and make a few quid but to have a mine set of returning to better European leagues or even our own Ghanaian league since even our league is way better than the Arab and most of the Asian leagues.

Gyan you are the greatest so far as Ghana soccer is concerned. Abedi made his mark but you have made indelible mark. Are you not the highest goal scorer in the history of the Black Stars? Are you not the highest scorer in world cup in Africa? Are you not the highest paid Ghanaian player in history. Soccer is not about finesse. It's about efficiency. Otherwise Pele would not have been ranked above Maradona.
Abedi sold Ghana in 1996 when he decided not to play against South Africa. I would have treated it as genuine injury had it not been his subsequent association with SA.
Please Abedi don't be jealous. You are trying to pave way for your son to take over the captaincy.
