Personally I believe all mining activities must be undertaken by Ghanaians. Even where we don't have the resources to exploit fully, we should let it remain in the soil until we develop the technology or find the resources to employ experts to assist us. We pay the foreign experts and keep the profits. But it must all be done properly under licence.

Even the corrupt General Kuti Acheampong had better sense and pursued a policy of capturing the "commanding heights" of the economy. Under his rule, Ghana acquired majority shares in Obuasi Gold Mines from LONHRO, to which Busia had given the mines for peanuts. Today, while the price of oil and commodities keep falling, that of gold keeps rising. Gold is in great demand as the stock market plunges and most currencies lose value.

"Galamsey" should be banned completely, period. Neither natives nor foreigners allowed! Cancer rates are going to rise in the regions where galamsey has polluted the waters. We never had this problem until there were changes foolishly made in the mining laws by K4 and further broadened by the NDC thieves. In place of galamsey, The Farm Workers Brigade established by the great Osagyefo should be revived and the rural unemployed should all be drafted into it and given plots work on. However, instead of large state farms, the government should encourage the establishment of small cooperative and organic farms which will be owned by the brigade farmers themselves.

The first 4 kids of my dad had free education from class one to JSS. Scholarship secondary education to the tertiary. Free healthcare until you are 20yrs. Free Housing, free utilities. Now the story is that...the mine is about to shut down after 180yrs of helping people like me and am only 35yrs. I benefited because my dad chose to be a miner and with all the risk underground God was good to him to retire without any accident. People talk about local content but I wonder if you've even asked for the price of Safo Kanatanka's car...But you will ask for the price of a BMW. I wonder if BMW is made in Kantamanto. The Ayanfuri youth are lucky to see the days of democracy which get people fooling about. They should have gone to their chief to whom royalties are paid to...We demand little from those royalties are paid to and blame everyone else for the woos of the mining towns. Chiefs can't even boast of bank beds for a children's ward of hospitals in their town but are comfortable in the luxurious cars bought for them by the mines...I will say no more but your opinion is certainly not mine.
