We are fed up with stupidity and foolishness , anytime a none Akan takes over the reign of govt the country visibly and factually goes backwards . Kotoka Rawlings , Mahama and Liman have been the cause of unbelievable hardship and stress to say the least. This pepeni/ayigbe track record of misery says it all, never again will we Akans show love and trust to those who in return pay us back with corruption , nepotism , tribalism , hegemony and gross incompetence fueled by selfishness and greed . Today these criminals are busy preparing illusions to rig or use the trickery of election engineering to remain in power as they have no shame and sense of whats right. Our economy was a 5 star , and entrusted to ndc its now moved from 4 to 3 to 2 to 1 and now rubbish yet they try and convince us that they have done well with 47% , what madness. They have not realized that to marginalize the Akans only leads to economic disaster as democracy is all about the participation of the majority . We expect political violence which will evolve into war , then we will see who truly has the majority , we shall see which Akans will shoot at their brothers because pepeni/ayigbe interests are challenged . We shall purge from our midst s all treacherous traitors of the Akan cause and kill their brothers and sisters and even the dogs and cats as we have no use for idiots in our new country. Nobody can hide the light and true destiny of the great nation of Akan. they use all kinds of schemes and tricks to undermine or deny a proper standard to us but we shall never surrender. we shall change and adapt as like the Israelis we are the chosen people of God and he in his great design has made us diverse but unified in spirit. the Ashantis like the tribe of Judah are and will remain an integral part of our being to to attack any one part we all end up feeling it sooner or later. they have succeed in turning some of our chiefs and kings against us and work for their evil ungodly agenda but we still see clearly . God has brought us into the 21st century and with that a new system of governance and state of mind based on democracy since it is HE alone who blesses the individuals with the gift of leadership wisdom and justice irrespective of status at birth. he has shown us the blue print of the way forward in the bible and other holy books and the time has come to free ourselves from this man made bondage called Ghana. just as in the Ukraine we must fight so the truth will come out , fear not the battle as they will crumble like the walls of Jericho . cast away our so called fake leaders and politicians who are nothing but cowards and like our enemies fear even their own shadows . yes God has put a million fears in their empty bodies as he who does not fear the Lord , the Lord will ensure all fears of the world will reside in him. They threaten us with superstition , juju and what have you and we say fuck you and go to hell as the divine power is with us . Yes all the tribes of Akan are fingers on the same hands and God has ordained we remain united so our strength and light will be visible throughout the whole world and universe , our time has come . everyday its becoming clearer and clearer to all children of Akan that we must prepare mentally for a battle of freedom . they come with tricks that say we must take a non Akan as our leader because its nice ? do they not think that out of 30 million Akans we can not find sensible down to earth leaders and warriors to lead our own people to our own destiny? a govt of the people and by the people is what the 21st century democracy is all about . let them continue to play with the consensus and other figures that justify their fantasy and enable them to marginalize the participation of the Akan majority in the Affairs of their own land , to marginalize us thus preventing us to afford a better standard for our people . The had of God has given them pestilence after pestilence but they refuse to let our people go , soon they will be swept away like chaff in the hurricane of fury . Long live the republic of Akan and don't you forget it as now the Fanti speakers, Twi speakers, Ashantis and other tribes of Akan are now one .

It was based on this analogy that Mahama advised Togo's President to bring down the whole structure and build a new one with a solid and credible foundation. The issue of minors registering is a commonly practised act amongst all the partisans..so, in the end they will cross themselves out... 1:2:4 and 2:4:8....same ratio but different values. But to have such outrageous number of foreigners on the voters register is just outright organized crime. This same voter's register contains names of deceased people that has to be cancelled out. It's very possible some people will end up casting votes on behalf of those people resting in their graves. And I would personally recommend the government to close down all borders of neighboring 2weeks prior to election until after elections. If any party can afford to bring ppl in and accommodate them for 2weeks, then let it be so. After all, those ppl will have to stay in some hotels or inns where they will finally have to use their ID's or passports.... so many measures can be taken to at least gain a 95% credible voter's register.

This week the NPP publicised a press conference to make the case for a new voters register for the 2016 General Elections (Presidential and Parliamentary). The press conference was called and addressed by Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia, the Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates respectively. This article is an analysis of one of the reasons why the two and their party believe that Ghana needs a new voters register for 2016.

According to media reports, NPP’s investigative and comparative analysis work led by Dr Bawumia has shown that as many as over 76,000 individuals who are citizens of Togo are on both Ghana’s and Togo’s voter registers (see, “Bawumia uncovers 76,000 Togolese in Ghana's voter roll” and “Voters register is ‘incurably flawed - Dr. Bawumia”, Adomonline/Ghanaweb, August 18, 2015).

Whilst, I agree with NPP that Ghana’s voters register contains foreigners because of the porous nature of Ghana’s borders with her neighbours and the fact that Ghanaian identity documents are very easy to obtain. Moreover, National Health Insurance cards which anyone living in Ghana can obtain were used as proof of identity to prepare the 2012 voters register that has now been ruled unlawful by the Supreme Court. However, the mere fact that a person or persons is/are on the voter registers of two countries does not necessarily make the register flawed, let alone incurably flawed as Dr Bawumia concluded.

Dr Bawumia will have to pose a number of legal questions and find answers to them before he can make any definitive conclusions. Assuming that the names are not only similar but actually the same persons, the first question is, do these people have Ghanaian citizenship and therefore eligible to register and vote in Ghana? Second, could they be dual citizens of Ghana and Togo and if so, does Ghanaian law permit dual citizens to register in Ghana and vote in Ghana? The same questions could apply to Togo but for the purposes of this article, I will restrict myself to Ghana because what is legal or otherwise in Togo may not be legal or illegal in Ghana.

If the over 76,000 identified on Ghana’s voters register and also on that of Togo are dual citizens of Ghana, then by the Supreme Court ruling in the case of Prof Stephen Kwaku Asare versus The Attroney General given on May 22, 2012, there is no law in Ghana that prohibits Ghanaian dual citizens living abroad from registering in Ghana and voting in Ghana. For this reason, Dr Bawumia and NPP must first established beyond reasonable doubt that these individuals are not Ghanaians or do not have Ghanaian dual citizenship. If Dr Bawumia and NPP are unable to prove that, then they are simply making hollow argument or even being mischievous.

Mischievous because during voters registration and general elections in Ghana some Ghanaians with dual citizenship living abroad return home to register and vote. If such dual citizens are also registered in their host countries or countries of resident, then their names will appear on voter registers of both Ghana and the other country. In the UK, Commonwealth citizens who have the legal right to stay in the UK can register and vote in local and national elections. For example, a Ghanaian student with one year visa living in the UK and is a registered voter in Ghana can register and vote in local and national elections as I did when I was a postgraduate student on one year visa. If Dr Bawumia conducted a similar exercise in the UK, USA, Canada, Germany, Italy, France, The Netherlands, etc where there are many Ghanaians with dual citizenship, such double registration would be found, though the figures would be in hundreds and not tens of thousands (for good reasons). Would Bawumia and NPP simply claim that because of such double registration, Ghana’s voters register is flawed or those Ghanaians living in UK, USA, Canada, Germany, Italy, France, The Netherlands, etc who travelled to Ghana to register used fraudulent means?

Of course, the numbers are very high and may require some further examination and analysis. However, put in historical context, this should not be surprising because part of Ghana used to be part of Togo. Moreover, all over Africa, the borders of nation states were impositions by colonial maters that divided families, friends, neighbours and ethnic groups. A similar exercise in other border regions may show similar double registration. For this reason, NPP could have done a better job by conducting similar exercises in Western and Upper East regions before making public their findings.

Again, what is the guarantee that the same double registration of other foreign nationals is not occurring in other regions of Ghana, particularly metropolitan centres such as Accra, Tema, Kumasi, Koforidua, Takoradi, Tamale, Bolga, Wa, etc where there are more likely to be higher concentrations of nationals from other West African countries who could on the voters register? Is NPP only interested in those from Togo? What about Nigerians who are often caught in possession of Ghanaian identity documents?

The voters register may require some audit to weed out those who are not eligible to be on it but finding Togolese who are both registered on Ghana’s and Togo’s voters registers is not plausible evidence to conclude that Ghana’s register is flawed, unless the questions I posed above have been answered satisfactory. At best, this was a good effort but fallacy of hasty conclusion. I believe Dr Bawumia and NPP could do better.

The more danger is, for instance Ghana and Ivory Coast are at locker-heads over disputed geographical boundaries over oil. Unfortunately the NDC has already given some Ivorian nationals our national ID, God forbid but should in case there is a war over the disputed areas, these elements could be used by the Ivorian authorities to attack and course huge damages to our interest with the provided Ghanaian IDs.

Looking at the chaotic social economic insecurity coupled with armed robbery and uncontrolled social nuisance are all results of recruited foreign elements brought into the country with fake voters ID as citizens.

Ghanaians have become slaves in our own county of birth and foreigners criminally recruited in the systems including the Army, Police, civil service and other sensitive places controls the lives of our indigenous people today, not to talk of the huge damages to our natural environment and disrespect of our traditions, how come?

The lady Electoral Commissioner should be encouraged to be strong and fair to make the required changes for free and fair democratic elections come 2016 as we can not and will not take the fake register as it it now in the system to 2016 elections.

The discredited Afari Djan should be brought to justice in the near future for presiding over such a diabolical intent with the potential sending this once peaceful country into a long suffering civil war.

• Increase in the number of minors in 2012 register compared to 2008 who illegally registered.
• Increase in voter enthusiasm in 2012 compared to 2008, and
• Increase in the number of dual citizens registering to vote in Ghana compared to last time.
NPP should know that by law, people with dual citizens are allowed to register and vote in both Ghana and Togo. Togolese law allows dual citizenship just like Ghana. Secondly, by Law EC may be required to register Ghanaians in Togo under the ROPAA law. How can the NPP prevent non dual citizens registering to vote in our elections should have been the line of argument they should have taken. If the people who by law allowed to register and vote under ROPAA choose to rather come home and register for the purposes of voting, this is not illegal and cannot be the basis for the NPP to say that the register is flawed. The best they can do is to say that those whose names appear in both Ghana and Togo registers should proof that they are dual citizens, otherwise, their names should be deleted.

This is how it has always been yet Kuffuo won two general elections. May be it was even worse back in the days. So the NPP should rather behave themselves and come up with better policies and have a better attitude in their campaign and stop worrying themselves with this voter registration issue which they think is going to benefit them only.

Once upon a time was a Plebiscite in the Gold Coast in May 1956 when the influence of the Trans Volta Togoland was required in the quest for independence as mandated by the League of Nations. The people of TV Togoland campained against. But there was a condition which has not been fulfilled to date. I think the time is now for Volta Region to revisit the table to secede from the union. Secession from the union is long overdue. Ghana initiated the Alliance Compliance Order set out in Ghana by the Busia/Danquah regime. Nigeria retaliated in 1983. The same path is now retraced. DENU sits on a proven oil reserve and I believe with that if harnessed can sustain the 'New Country'. The Akosombo Dam should then be returned to Volta Region because there is a reason for describing the area Eastern Region. The history is there for all to access.
