In fact, they knew this themselves when they took to strike action because the common knowledge is that if not for nurses our death rate in Ghana would be higher.

If these conditions of service was demanded by our honorable nurses, I would have backed them 100 percent.

Until those pompous, little brat doctors learn to love their nation and have some respect for the common man who pays their wages, I would never support them even if they want just a pesewa on their already above living wage salaries. Nonsense.

Go and see how Prez Mahama of Ghana has transformed Gonjaland with Ghana money just within the two and half years that he has been in power. Every town, village and hamlet in Gonjaland has received a facelift with new facilities such as roads, toilet facilities, markets, mosques, good quality water projects, electricity extension projects, etc. The question is did J. J. Rawlings do the same thing to Voltarians when he was in power for twenty years? What about Atta Mills. The good old Prof was in power for three and a half years yet he was not selfish to only concentrate on his people in Ekumfi Etuam and the central Region but rather his whole thought was for the general good. No wonder under the care of Prez Mills, Ghana achieved a growth rate of 11%, single digit inflation and the smooth implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy where newly recruited police personnel received the nominal equivalence of 500dollars as monthly salary. Compare these achievements to the nepotism and selfish policies of the Mahama government that has crippled the Ghanaian economy. I really weep for Ewes and Fantis whose votes brought Mahama to power and yet are the hardest hit by the current hardship prevailing in the country.

We are fed up with stupidity and foolishness , anytime a none Akan takes over the reign of govt the country visibly and factually goes backwards . Kotoka Rawlings , Mahama and Liman have been the cause of unbelievable hardship and stress to say the least. This pepeni/ayigbe track record of misery says it all, never again will we Akans show love and trust to those who in return pay us back with corruption , nepotism , tribalism , hegemony and gross incompetence fueled by selfishness and greed . Today these criminals are busy preparing illusions to rig or use the trickery of election engineering to remain in power as they have no shame and sense of whats right. Our economy was a 5 star , and entrusted to ndc its now moved from 4 to 3 to 2 to 1 and now rubbish yet they try and convince us that they have done well with 47% , what madness. They have not realized that to marginalize the Akans only leads to economic disaster as democracy is all about the participation of the majority . We expect political violence which will evolve into war , then we will see who truly has the majority , we shall see which Akans will shoot at their brothers because pepeni/ayigbe interests are challenged . We shall purge from our midst s all treacherous traitors of the Akan cause and kill their brothers and sisters and even the dogs and cats as we have no use for idiots in our new country. Nobody can hide the light and true destiny of the great nation of Akan. they use all kinds of schemes and tricks to undermine or deny a proper standard to us but we shall never surrender. we shall change and adapt as like the Israelis we are the chosen people of God and he in his great design has made us diverse but unified in spirit. the Ashantis like the tribe of Judah are and will remain an integral part of our being to to attack any one part we all end up feeling it sooner or later. they have succeed in turning some of our chiefs and kings against us and work for their evil ungodly agenda but we still see clearly . God has brought us into the 21st century and with that a new system of governance and state of mind based on democracy since it is HE alone who blesses the individuals with the gift of leadership wisdom and justice irrespective of status at birth. he has shown us the blue print of the way forward in the bible and other holy books and the time has come to free ourselves from this man made bondage called Ghana. just as in the Ukraine we must fight so the truth will come out , fear not the battle as they will crumble like the walls of Jericho . cast away our so called fake leaders and politicians who are nothing but cowards and like our enemies fear even their own shadows . yes God has put a million fears in their empty bodies as he who does not fear the Lord , the Lord will ensure all fears of the world will reside in him. They threaten us with superstition , juju and what have you and we say fuck you and go to hell as the divine power is with us . Yes all the tribes of Akan are fingers on the same hands and God has ordained we remain united so our strength and light will be visible throughout the whole world and universe , our time has come . everyday its becoming clearer and clearer to all children of Akan that we must prepare mentally for a battle of freedom . they come with tricks that say we must take a non Akan as our leader because its nice ? do they not think that out of 30 million Akans we can not find sensible down to earth leaders and warriors to lead our own people to our own destiny? a govt of the people and by the people is what the 21st century democracy is all about . let them continue to play with the consensus and other figures that justify their fantasy and enable them to marginalize the participation of the Akan majority in the Affairs of their own land , to marginalize us thus preventing us to afford a better standard for our people . The had of God has given them pestilence after pestilence but they refuse to let our people go , soon they will be swept away like chaff in the hurricane of fury . Long live the republic of Akan and don't you forget it as now the Fanti speakers, Twi speakers, Ashantis and other tribes of Akan are now one .

Foreign doctors with all their good salaries and remunerations would still cycle to work because not only is it cheap but extremely healthy and exemplary.

Mind you, many Ghanaian doctors have also had this exposure like myself and yet, will and have never departed from the unhealthy, unwise lifestyles taught to them at medical school. Tell me, how appealing are they?

Do you know why? Ghanaian doctor have never made reading medicine attractive to many kids.

They are pompous, little or no personal development and above all luck ingenuity like their foreign counterparts in spite of the opportunities afforded them.

Try taking a survey of what many Ghanaian kids would want to be, a doctor or a pilot and the answer would shock someone like you.

Do you know why? If you are ingenious you would figure it out.

Your folly will not work for during the floods and fire in June 152 people died meanwhile there was no strike.

Churning out figures without any evidence will not wash. Secondly it will be over simplification to ascribe all deaths within this period to the strike.

The finder tell us. Do you ascribe the deaths in the Tuobodom crises to the strike.
Since your sources know too well tell us the causes of death.. We can then do an audit to ascertain the truth in what you are saying otherwise reserve stories like this for the uninformed.

Managing a country is a serious business that requires skill and high intelligence. During and before elections, politicians bribe influential people like kings, queens, etc, these good for nothing people used to sell their people for mirrors and drinks, now they sell them for cars and money. Elections are always marred by intimidation, violence and other malpractices.

This information lacks credibility and no matter any death in country it is the government which is guilty.
How cant you pay the doctors and also bring in enough drugs for treatment but been able to pay the salaries of every politicians who are on the pay slip of this incompetent government.

It is only in Ghana that such thing can happen.

This outrageous demands by these Doctors needs to be nipped in the bud as soon as possible. There are reasonable demands and there are outrageous demands that have hidden agendas all over it and this is one of those.
The government needs to put it's foot down and terminate appointments of those who fail to turn up for their jobs and re-advertise their jobs with a new set of improved conditions that the state can afford.
What makes them think they require special treatment from the state.
In a democratic state like Ghana everybody is important be he a doctor or a road sweeper and if you think you are not being paid enough ,you simply look for one that pays better or start your own business.
This rule applies to everybody in a capitalist state. What makes the Doctors think they are exceptions to the rule.
If they are demanding all thses outrageous allowances, what about the teachers that taught them what they know. How much do they think those poor teachers are worth ?

Nobody has held a gun to their heads to work in government hospitals.They are free to go and look for better paid work elsewhere after they have honoured their bonds.

These doctors have really caused damage to us and losses which shouldn't have been there. I agree with the Ministry of Health to recruit retired doctors and nurses to help save the situation or equally we should get foreign doctors save the situation. Government must fire these doctors are give the government hospitals to a healthcare management firm to manage for real improvement and churn profits .

Then rehire doctors that are worthy on service contracts to work for healthcare firm in modern hospital setup without their usual strikes, conflict of interests in owning and operating private clinic near the government hospitals that makes them sabotage the equipment.

Healthcare is big business but low quality healthcare is not worthy. Our government hospitals are low quality and have become death traps. The deaths recorded will still happen when the doctors are there because my studies tells me we are loosing over 1200 in a month.

Ghana must sit up and restructure the healthcare system in Ghana. The cheap hospitals they ran are death traps and I don't urge Ghanaians to patronize it.

If the government is afraid the these hospitals will become too expensive for the poor if managed by a healthcare firm, then they should subsidize the poor folks who use it with profits that is due government. And add NHIS monies they tax us to offer the poor quality health instead if death they currently offer wit these vet poor service at government hospitals

Herbalists, prayer camps and witch doctors will charge ridiculous amounts to provide concoctions that purport to heal the sick who cannot afford private medical treatment or treatment abroad. Time to overhaul the healthcare delivery services. More die in preventable road accidents every month.

Some medical doctors will continue to provide services at home or at private medical facilities anyway. They have nothing to lose. The rest will just seek jobs abroad. Maybe we should also consider exchange programmes. Where are our doctors who were sponsored to train in Ukraine, Cuba, etc?

The rusty retired doctors deserve to rest and enjoy their retirement. Bring them back at the risk of medical negligence. You still have to pay them. Or are they going to do voluntary work?

I was travelling to Ghana to make a documentary about what life is like for some of the five million people who (according to Human Rights Watch) have a disability in the country.

To many, Ghana is a beautiful, safe country, the jewel in West Africa's crown. It's home to a wealth of resources that make it a stable and prosperous economy.

But I found some things that many tourists, holidaymakers or backpackers would never see. Nor, in fact, would many Ghanaians.

Some disabled people haven't left the same room for 15 years.

The people I met during my trip were mostly devout Christians, but who had imported traditional beliefs to shape the way they explain disability. It soon dawned on me that for many people, disability was considered not a physical or mental impairment, but in fact a spiritual sickness or curse that could either be healed by prayer or by confinement, and in some cases by physical violence.

Seriously, some African-Americans don't realise how lucky they are.

I am following this ongoing African tragedy from afar-with all my biases, of course - but am wondering. Isn't the solution now stymied by the old African governance of yore-my way or the highway.That the abrasive personalities of the government officials could possibly be the cause of this impasse.I understand labor negotiations- a follower of the late Albert Hanker.
But, can't they solve this through an arbitration? The government & GMA should just bring in a mediator to arbitrate. It may be temporary but it would save face and make possible the grunt work later.

And in regards to the reimbursement formula - for health care providers- under the NHIS plan, isn't the payment scheme budgeted for in the Ministry of Health's budget?

As I prefaced my commentary -i.e from afar- I could be dead wrong. But, I can wager with any of the government apologists on this page that good governance-regardless of political system and the maturity of self governance- is a collaborative efforts of the governed and the governance.

The government labor negotiation is surely not how to run a country. But, I pray for cooler heads to prevail, for the electorate demand more better than this.
