The leadership of the New Patriotic Party, on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, made a donation to the Chiefs and people of the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Area, ahead of their celebration of the Homowo festival this weekend.

A high-powered delegation led by the party’s 2016 presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo; its General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong; the parliamentary candidate for the Odododiodio constituency, Nii Lante Bannerman; and other leading members of the party made a donation of cartons of water, cartons of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, bags of maize and corn dough, gallons of cooking oil, and an unspecified amount of money to Chiefs and people of Ngleshie Alata.

Addressing the gathering, in the presence of the Paramount Chief of the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Area, Oblempong Nii Kojo Ababio V, Nana Akufo-Addo stated that the presence of the NPP’s delegation was to call on the Chiefs and people of Ngleshie Alata, congratulate them on the occasion of Homowo, and also make a “small donation to help in the celebration.”

As someone who was born in Swalaba, in the Ngleshie community, Nana Akufo-Addo stated that “I always come here to celebrate with you when it is time for Homowo, and this year is no different. Let me also use this opportunity to congratulate Nii Kojo Ababio V, who is celebrating 37 years on the throne as Paramount Chief.”

The NPP flagbearer also introduced the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the area, which is located in the Odododiodioo constituency, Nii Lante Bannerman; as well as Jerry Ahmed Schaib, the NPP’s Ablekuma South Constituency to the Chiefs and people gathered at Mantse Agboena.

“Please take care of them for me”, Nana Akufo-Addo respectfully asked of the Paramount Chief, adding that “in 2016 the winners of the parliamentary elections in Odododiodioo and Ablekuma South must be these two young men.”

On his part, Nii Kojo Ababio V thanked Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP for their kind gesture, which, he said, was timely and will aid in the successful celebration of Homowo.

“I initially thought the donation was going to be made by Nii Lante Bannerman, on behalf of the NPP, and that is why I delegated my sub-chiefs to receive the items on my behalf.

However, when I was informed that Nana Akufo-Addo had personally come to my palace, I had to put on my best cloth and be here to receive him and this august delegation. Nana Akufo-Addo is someone I have known for years. I know his family very well and I am happy to see him here once again,” Nii Kojo Ababio V said.

In addition to calling for peace and unity within the NPP, the Paramount Chief urged Nana Akufo-Addo to remain steadfast.

“With God and truth on your side, you will surely be victorious. Wherever you find yourself, and it should not necessarily be on a campaign platform, please tell Ghanaians about your message hope and for the development of this country. I can assure you that 2016 will be a year of good omen for you.”

Also accompanying the NPP flagbearer were the NPP Greater Accra 1st Vice Chairman, Alfred Boye; Greater Accra NPP Secretary, Nii Adjei Sowah; Greater Accra NPP Women’s Organiser, Joyce Zampare; Nii Adjiri Blankson, a member of the NPP’s Council of Elders.

Not forgetting Prof. Mike Oquaye, former 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament and current Chairman of the NPP’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee; Sheikh I.C Quaye, former Greater Accra Regional Minister and a member of the NPP’s Council of Elders; and Lawyer Ben Annan, a founding member of the NPP.
