They claim some countries in Europe do that but in some of these countries it is not just owning the TV but some services are included which people don't get in Ghana.
All these money they start collecting now much of it will go to make people like this Achebe guy rich,they will share it giving more incentives to their senior employees,it will not improve any service.

He is joking with that threat,they may get few poor ones to prosecute but they are going to find it difficult collecting from everybody,even during the revolution when people were asked to pay a lot of people didn't pay,some in some parts of the country mostly in the border regions told them they don't watch GBC TV rather they watch the channels from the neighboring countries,people will not even allow them to enter their homes.

Blame the rubber stamp parliament that stamps anything from government without any serious debate.

As usual, someone has gone ahead and screamed out for TV license without clarifying the full scope and targets in an effort to present something to the public.

One thing I see from a quick glance from the comments is that people are vexed with the quality of programs from GBC anyway so questioning if it's worth and the viability.

No one knows what guarantees is being given by GBC as to what they promise to deliver without fail and in contract from the proceeds of the license fee.
We all can assume what it will be, BUT, without a drawn up public contract with commitments which can be monitored, everyone will consider it a farce.

The GBC is a business entity that operates independent of the government and if you have problems with the proposed fees, then I suggest you contact your MP and demand a change in the laws.

My studies have shown that many poor people struggle very much before getting money to buy a radio set.To acquire a TV set is more difficult for them.After buying a movable property there must be no way to pay tax monthly or yearly on that property. Who can talk on behave of the poor. Soon we may be paying taxes on all other movable properties like fridge,radio,video deck,watches,clocks, speakers etc . politicians see three (3 )as small amount of money, but it is to much for a poor man who cannot afford 3 square meals a day.They law must be amended to make for different types of punishment instead of arrest and/or jail.

Oh no this is very bad and not the best option at this time.The economy is not the best,the cedi is struggling against the dollar,inflation is on the rise and all that the government is doing is taxing the ordinary Ghanaian to death.So what happened to all the new taxes that has been introduced by the government.One thing I know is that even if the person is poor he/she can relax in the comfort of his/her room watching TV but if you want to tax that same poor person for watching TV and failure to do that might result in imprisonment,then am afraid very soon people might commit suicide.This is just rediculous and what a wicked world and government we have in power.
