If it is true that GRIDCO is planning to undertake maintenance works on its machines from Jan to July 2016, then I see it as the NPP's strategy to further delay the resolution of DUMSOR. I say this because last week, Amin Anta who heads an NGO that speaks on energy issues and who is a known NPP guru questioned why the government will still import 1800 Megawatts of power after it had put in verifiable measures to produce 500 Megawatts. To him, it was a waste of the tax payers money hence the govt should stop importing the power badges since the 500 MW was more than the gap in power supply of 450MW. By this , it is obvious that Amin Anta and his party now believe that with the far more than required power available in 2016, DUMSOR will become a thing of the past, hence their new approach of maintenance from Jan to July 2016. I believe they will even deliberately delay the maintenance till October after which DUMSOR will be resolved. At that time, their message to Ghanaians will be that the govt is just deceiving them because should the NDC win the elections, Dumsor will be back and Ghanaians will believe them. It must be understood that Ghanaians are more likely to tolerate Dumsor this year, even if the entire country is in darkness than any Dumsor in 2016. The Govt and all concerned Ghanaians SHOULD INSIST that the maintence works be done THIS YEAR rather than in 2016. I
On the other hand, if the PURC compels GRIDCO to stop the maintenance altogether, the NPP may ensure that the machines break down completely in 2016 and turn round to blame the govt for not allowing GRIDCO to do the maintenance just for political reasons. The wisest and most prudent thing to do now is for PURC to let GRIDCO UNDERTAKE THE MAINTENCE NOW. A word to the wise is in enough.

So long as there are NPP men and women heading strategic positions in the energy sector, the NDC gov't under Mahama will encounter vicious machination in the sector. It is known to all and sundry that NPP is hell-bent to make the gov't unpopular to win support of the electorate. This kind of strategy has always been used dating back from Nkrumah's era. But so long as the NPP hierarchy has not the welfare of the nation at heart but their own personal aggrandizement, the strategy is bound to fail.

Well done PURC. You are doing exactly what you were set up to do. The exercise must have a human face and should be done to limit any further reduction in electricity supply to the suffering consumers. This exercise should have been done in phases years ago and consumers should not suffer for the incompetence of GRIDco and others.
