Has the author provide us information on his work history in the oil palm industry as he comes across as an academician and not an expert in oil palm.

Thanks a lot for this good article.
Infact it's time Ghanaians get educated and appreciate the economic importance of the Oil Palm and shift from the primitive idea about the usage of Palm which has been soup, akpeteshie and the rest.Every single person uese a product of palm oil daily; saops and detergents, tooth paste, vegetable oils (eg. frytol, Gino, kings, salsa ect.), ice cream,Biscuits, cosmetics and so many products are obtained from palm oil and it's deriviatives.
On the production side, higher yields b/n 15-19.4tons/ha has so far been achieved in some smallholder farms in Ghana through Solidaridad SWAPP BMP Oil Palm project within 2.5yrs now with farmers having good planting materials. It is expected that some smallholder farms particulary in the Western region(High rainfall areas) will record b/n 18-22tons/ha within 4yrs of Oil Palm BMP implementation making it a very profitable investment.
On the financing side and it's profitability in terms of credit,no crop at the production level can make a significant profit with a commercial Banks loan interest of 30 percent per anum.It is therfore reccomended for a special funding and credit schemes for the agriculture sector as done elsewhere to boost production, reduce importation which cost millions of dollars, creat and sustain employment and strengthen the industry.
Great piece, but question is why shd i invest in an industry which will give me 14% interet when risk free T-bill gives 30% interest. Tonaton Economy

You see Ghanaians are more interested in NDC NPP silly arguements. People can't be bothered about such an important information hence the few comments. This is why we will forever be poor.

As indicated in this article, the parent materials for production of any tree crop plays a future role in respect of returns on investment. This article should help create the awareness of making readily available the most improved seedling variety for palm oil production. An important area it is in contributing to national G.D.P, government must encourage large and small holder farmers through acquisition of interest free loans and strengthening the Oil Palm Research Institute to come out with improved varieties which should be made readily available to farmers. The government can also contribute by putting subsidies on the Tenera most especially. This article should help correct failed portions by government and the necessary bodies to elevate the Oil Palm sector n increase the levels of production and Revenue
