The chiefs and people of Western Region must wise up a bit. They should no more allow themselves to be hoodwinked by the NDC crooks. John Mahama is sending most of the development projects to Accra and his native Gonjaland (in Upper West). Only NPP will will develop Western Region for you. In 2016 be smart ....vote ONLY for NPP!

There we go again! The Western Regional Coord Council under the Regional Minister has a comprehensive development plan. It just needs government support to be implemented. Don't waste time and money, learn from SADA!

Sadly the government is yet to realize the important role the railways rehabilitation will play in the economic development of the nation. The collapse of the railways has contributed immensely towards the stagnation of the nation"s economy.I grew up to see the railways running at its peak and the positive impact it had on the economy. However past governments and present have cared less about the rehablitation of the railways. This shows clearly that our priorities for economic development are simply wrong. In truth it is an economic crime against Ghana.

As I have opined on many occasions on GhanaWeb, I reiterate the run down of the railway was deliberate attempts parties to stifle the industrial gallantry of the Western region. It dates back when Nkrumah's government was overthrown. During Nkrumah's reign the Railway Workers' Union was so powerful that it was not only used to steer the government's economic and political agendas, it was used by the opposition of the government in waning Nkrumah popularity. The Union became the agent which was used by the opposition, United Party, to fight the "Compulsory Savings' Act" policy of Nkrumah's gov't. The climax was when Nkrumah was away on a foreign trip and the opposition used his absence to incite the Union to go on strike; at the time his government was having serious economic challenges. Their action aggravated the economic situation and made the gov't to abandon the policy.
Ironically, subsequent leaders after Nkrumah stopped investing in the railways, and ran the system down, when they took power, ostensibly that eroded the powers of the Union. To fill the vacuum articulators are largely used to carry the heavy goods hitherto transported by the railways. This has had devastating effect on our roads. Not only that the general reward to the economy for using them is minimal compared to the inevitable greater value to the economy and our social travel by using the railways.

I pray that their request would be granted. A country without good railway system,is like a car with no fuel. The government can fix the railway system alone if they want to, they should stop wasting money on projects which can not survive in the long term and focus on Ghana railways. If the rails are fixed and movement of goods are channel through that sector, there would be less accidents on the road and also food stuffs from the remote areas will get to the market faster. So that farmers will get enough money to take care of their families. Which in the long run reduce the burden or reliability on government for everything. It can convey passengers from one location to the other which will reduce the traffic on the roads.
