We must be very careful of the way we go about serious matters in this country. The arrogant posture of Parliament in a technical matter such as Ebola beats my mind. This is even more serious when we read that this week the virus has resurfaced in Liberia and measures are again being taken to contain it. We are in here Ghana putting obstacles in the way of research and ridiculing Doctors who duties it is to carry out the test to be able to adopt the medication in case of an outbreak. dreaded as it was, the atomic bomb was tested in the USA, California for sure before being deployed against the Japanese to stop World War II. Ghana may stand the danger of losing international assistance in case of an Ebola outbreak by this uncooperative and confrontational posture.

Your MPs should have sought information before expressing their ignorance to the world. Would it have been out of place if your "learned" parliamentarians had invited say Prof Dodoo to educate them on what the trial entails? We were of the impression that the Ebola menace is over but we need to be careful, it is not. Liberia which was declared Ebola-free has seen another case. Guinea and Sierra Leone are still recording cases. We are still at risk and must take attempts to find a vaccine serious.

The professor should understand that the trial of the vaccine in Ghana is absolutely wrong. We did not record any Ebola case in Ghana so, what is the sense of the vaccine trial in Ghana and if the parliamentarians are listening to their constituencies and are refusing the trial, why should the professor label them as ignorant?
The professor is well learned but that is not what we are talking about. We are more concerned about the wellbeing of the ordinary Ghanaian and not what some elements will benefit. The Ebola vaccine trial in Ghana is wrong and we should resist it in anyway possible.

You are not very different from the parliamentarians if not even worse. First of all vaccines protect and not cure or infect. The issues about vaccines is their safety and there are strict guidelines both globallya and nationally to guide that. Besides, USA, Canada, Switzerland and Australia have all carried out Phase I trials on the vaccine. Apart from the USA that recorded some cases, none of these other countries did so and we are closer to the epidemic than them. Let this vaccine be found to be protective against ebola and let's hear a case of ebola in Ghana and we will see what the likes of you will do. This kind of backward thinking where we wait for the fire to spread from our neighbours house to ours before we start looking for water to quench it is the reason for our underdevelopment. Most of us do not seem to see beyond our noses and that's sad.

The problem with Ghanaians is that when they mention a professor they think they are full of knowledge. On the contrary most professors are narrow minded people who have studied a small area of a broad topic for research. Parliamentarians deal with a whole lot of issues concerning the country. The fact that they seek clearance on an issue they are not aware of doesn't make them ignorant.

Ray, you have rightly said it all. Professors are very knowledgeable in a small area of their specialty and parliamentarians are jack of all trade and masters of none. That is why commonsense dictates that when an issue comes up they first need to consult those who are knowledgeable in that field (whether or not those persons knew anything else) before speaking like authorities in the area. Such a stance is what exposed their ignorance. A point of correction: they did not seek clearance on the issue because they taught they knew it all. Some were even criticizing why the trial was not being done in animals!

This is another ignorant person just like his Ignorant MPs. I like your classification of professors as "most professors are narrow minded people who have studied a small area of a broad topic for research." In fact, the very definition that they "study a very small area" is what makes them authoritative in the niche where they profess. This is the very reason why ignoramuses like these MPs whodon't even understand common law but are making laws for a whole country should be put in their right places. Prof, go ahead to school them. I know the Prof will (a) explain what a vaccine trial is, (b) how a vaccine trial is conducted, (c) juxtapose the infantile opinions and virtuperations of the less knowledgeable Volta MPs (d) define the word Ignorance in its various forms, and (e) ask the aggrieved MPs to judge if they are not appropriately tagged as ignoramuses.
