Just like you don't have to be a Lawyer to be a US Supreme Justice it's always deemed expedient to be one and the EC in Ghana is to a larger extent no exception ,based on Mr. Amalib's contention.

It is not enough to have legal and masters qualifications. We need a heavyweight. The new E.C may prove to be a heavyweight but she is a lightweight with qualifications. An experienced trial lawyer with other experiences would be better. We need an EC who can stand up to all the various nonsense and tell people to go jump in the Korle Lagoon because she is sure of herself. I do not think this EC is the one. Just think of Betty Mould as Justice Minister, another severe lightweight, Commonwealth Office job is no preparation, she had never seen a courtroom and we are living with her incompetence.

to prevent the rain,once there are low lands !
In my personal opinion,having a law background is a plus but not strictly necessary.Who said only lawyers can read and interpret the Constitution?
Again,what is required of the EC in the Constitution,is not to redraft the Constitution in a different legal languages for distribution to Ghanaians.He/She is to oversee or conduct a free and fair elections.Who cannot do that?.Therefore, anyone with vast Administrative experience could be the EC.The most important features is that,the person should be bold/fearless to speak the truth(ka na
wu),sincere and honest to himself/ herself,have a lot or traces of integrity in him/her,be neutral(not a member of any one particular Political Party),etc.
Anyway
