Only Ghana flouts rent laws- Deputy minister.

A deputy minister of water-resources, works and housing has decried the flouting of rent laws in Ghana saying it is only the only country that has overlooked its legal statutes on renting.
The deputy minister cum member of parliament of Bodi in the western region, Hon Samson Ahi said the lack of enforcement of provisions in the rent act of 1963 which stipulates that no one takes rent advance for more than 6 months is the cause of much frustrations in the society leading to the springing up many slums in the capital cities.
He disclosed that stakeholders meetings are been held to see how the laws could be enforced. He admitted Ghana as a nation has failed in the provision of housing for its citizens. The housing deficit in the country now stands at 1.7milion but Hon Samson Ahi in an interview with Kwame Tutu host of Rainbow Radio 87.5fm morning show said efforts are being made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to build affordable houses to bridge the huge housing deficits.
He disclosed that the about 4,017 affordable housing units begun by the kuffour led New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration is being completed.
Touching on the demolition of Sodom and Gomorrah, Hon Ahi noted that government has not secured any lands at Ajen KotoKu for the relocation of squatters of but rather the land was to build a market centre.
He therefore asked those saying a land has been secured for relocation of the squatters to stop misinforming the public.
