The power to think analytically and clearly is a gift all can develop. Some may need help from mentors, or authors of scholarly books who are known for their critical thinking skills, others through discipleship of great scholars and scientists. It is only when the acquired knowledge is developed, shared and applied to benefit a community that we embrace a culture of thinkers. On the other hand, when scientific inquiry is stifled under the penalty of law, national development eventually dies.
Mental indolence, wishful thinking, and blind pursuit of currently available knowledge are blocks to the intellectual development for a community of cultural thinkers. They must not be encouraged.
The rational for an action must be understood by students, and investigated if at all possible. This will discourage cramming as a way of educating a student.
