The name Prison should be changed to National Correction Services. Think about this change to the up front feeling of the public and security towards the in-mates.

Rev. Yenusom is a square peg in a round hole. He does not belong to the Ghana Prison Service Board. Prison is not a church, but a continuation of law enforcement. You cannot turn convicted criminal away from a lock up. This can be taken as, "turning tourist away from a hotel." Convicted criminals belong nowhere than in a prison. Prison is not an "Adventist Church to turn away a Cotholic wearing a rosary". You have to manage your population with breaks of parole and probation, by working with the Judicial Council of Ghana that impose those sentences. This Prison Board Chaiman must be return to the church to preach the Gospel to christians. He can preach the gospel in the prison environment. This is a serious business that needs a serious manager, not a reverend!

Well said but who classifies the prisoners? President Mahama? The chief justice? The Christian Council? Or the prisons under Mr. Wengam?.The problem we have is that, people in positions only draw their fat emoluments and shift the ball around until it's placed on the president's laps. Why the numerous boards, ministries etc if the president can do everything by himself? Elsewhere, non-performing crying babies like Mr. Wengam are simply axed to give way to more maturity and efficiency but not in the Gold Coast.

Those who commit petty crimes should not be jailed! It's nonsense! Find some other punishment line clearing gutters of rubbish i.e. Community service!

Grant petty crime offenders and first time offenders pardon....probably the President has forgotten about them to grant Presidential Pardon. Others to undertake community service at choked gutters especially corrupt convicts.

About 80% of prisoners in Ghana prisons are thieves and armed robbers. Why are people advocating for their release or even lesser sentence for them. Now the courts are fining thieves and robbers instead of sentencing them into prisons. They pay the fines with alacrity and go back to commit crime again against
the people again. I want the police to stop patrols, stop arresting criminals allow the criminals to operate freely since prison officers are complainig about over crowding in the prisons and judges are failing to imprison thieves and robbers for us to see who will suffer. I wish thieves and robbers attack these so call human rights advocates for them to feel how it is to be robbed of you property.

ARE WE TO BE REMINDED THAT CRIMES ARE NOT OF THE SAME WEIGHT AND THEREFORE THE PRISONERS ARE NOT TO BE PUT IN THE SAME PRISONS. WE ARE NOT REALLY TELLING THE WORLD WERE WE ARE COMING FROM. ALL THIS IS HAPPENING DUE TO THE HIGH LEVEL OF CORRUPTION AT ALL LEVELS OF THE SOCIETY. IT MAKES GHANA AN INFERIOR NATION. IT IS HIGH TIME WE BEGIN TO GO BACK TO WHERE WE STARTED FROM. GHANA WAS KNOWN FOR THE KIND OF INTELEGENT PEOPLE WE HAVE PRODUCED IN AFRICAN . THE GRAVES OF THOSE SO PASSED INTELEGENT PASSE PEOPLE WILL BE CRACKING WHEN THE HEAR WHAT WE ARE PASSING THROUGH

Armed robbers should be hanged and ritual murderers and there will be a lot of rooms for people who have committed less crimes. You do not need anyone to come to your aid for this common sense.

Respect for human rights of prisoners have been trampled upon for decades. Every prison building has a capacity. Every remand warrant has expiry date. So for an institution with facility to house human beings deliberately exceeding its capacity and crammed human beings like goods is unpardonable. Remands with expired warrants have nothing doing in prison.Prisons have standing orders legislated by parliament on feeding, health, work; in fact every aspect of life during period of incarceration. Unfortunately in Ghana very few laws work. MPs only make laws and never bother their heads over implementation. Ghanaians need education on how to drag institutions and their heads to court for acts at variance with related laws. Inmates, family members should be able to drag the Prisons Authorities to court over the conditions in which inmates are kept..The threat by Prison Council Chair, begs the question. Which law in the first place grants the authority to exceed capacity of the facility. It is a shame.
