Ghanaians must begin to see and understand what these so-called experts are and to disregard them for what they are made of and what they are. Simply put, they are professionally inept, unenlightened and as dumb as they come. As a result, they lack the mental acumen and the professional capacity to properly analyze issues and problems and to offer viable alternatives and solutions to resolve them.
As far as I am concerned, there are two main reasons as to why there appears to be a system failure in Ghana and they have definitely not got anything to do with lazy workers. The term ‘lazy worker’ is a creation or the result of incompetent management and leadership.
My first reason is the lack of a responsible, disciplined, dedicated and knowledgeable leadership across-board in this country. In this regard, take for example the present leadership of the country. And by leadership, I am referring to the President, his Ministers, members of Parliament, heads of state institutions, the judiciary and the security apparatus among others. What worker in his right mind would be motivated or inspired to give off his/her best under the irresponsible and criminal 'supervision' by such bad leadership?
It is as if the overwhelming majority of top govt functionaries in this country missed their childhood and adolescence period of growing up and have now discovered that they can once again retrogress in time and begin to behave like irresponsible little children with the expensive, but free state logistics (toys) that are provided to them by govt.
I cannot remember the last time any govt functionary in this country made a sensible, respectable and well-thought-out statement about the dwindling state of affairs in this country. They seem to have lost all sense of shame as they continue to make complete fools of themselves in the public domain with inane utterances and behaviour that leave us open-mouthed with shock and disbelief.
Under such conditions, anybody who expects any worker to give off his/her best must be a goddamned joker or idiot living in a fools paradise. I must say that the biggest disincentive to hard work, honesty and discipline in the working environment is the loss of respect and disciplined mentorship for institutional authority.
Secondly and perhaps most importantly, the kind of salaries that are generally paid to Ghanaian workers is shameful and disgraceful, to say the least.
How anybody in his or her right mind can expect any worker to give off his/her diligent best with 'peanuts' ranging from GHC80 a month to GHC600 a month in the kind of Ghana that we live in today, beats my imagination. Off the top of my head, I can confidently state that over 80% of those who are lucky enough to get any employment at all, fall within this range of poorly paid workers at all levels.
In the main, such salaries are not even enough for transport to work and back home - much cater for their family needs and social obligations. Meanwhile, their irresponsible and criminally insensitive exploitative bosses who do even less work themselves, spend such amounts on extended lunch and booze sessions every day with their cronies and mistresses.
We must be grateful to God that we don’t have much more corruption and white-collar crime than the unacceptably high levels that currently prevails in our society. Ghanaians – you and I, are basically good people at heart but unfortunately, we have not had the necessary kinds of govt that we deserve. This has caused a rapid decline in the original quality of the Ghanaian and our social values.
Since that ill-omened day in February 1966, virtually all of our govts to date, have conducted themselves in a manner that is no better than how the evil colonial govts oppressed us. In the midst of a squalid insanitary disease-ridden society, these neo-colonial govt functionaries pay themselves huge salaries coupled with fantastic perks and privileges which millionaire film-stars in Los Angeles would be envious of. The resultant lackadaisical attitude to work, which is considered or described as an attitude of laziness by some, for me, shows a kind of resistance to the oppressive system under which we all live.

Whether we call it laziness or unproductive, we should all voice our concerns. We can clearly see that the attitude to work is bad and sad, morale is low, and there is too much corruption. I believe if the people from the diaspora voice their concerns strongly without being politically biased, there will be some impact. Whether we like it or not there will be resistance from those within, who seem to wrongfully assume that the diasporans have forfeited their stakes in the country. Irrespective of the political party that one sympathizes with, let us seize the chance and re-direct the the destiny of Ghana. We have lost our culture, and every Ghanaian is responsible for it.
Therefore those in the diaspora who have been highly exposed should not shy away from making views known. We are still stakeholders and better ones for that matter. Political party or tribe does not matter, we are now faced with redirecting Ghana.

To me, it shouldn't have been that long for our leaders to know that "many so-called government (public) workers are too damn LAZY, incompetent, careless about government property, disrespectful to the public they serve, demand illegal bribes for just doing their paid jobs, etc.
Some officials have made similar observations, but NO ACTIONS have been taken to correct this serious deficiency. Some workers report to work very late, take 2-3 hours lunch breaks and leave post early, to boot.
I lived, schooled and worked in Hamburg, Germany, where work (ARBEIT) is work. No tolerance for lateness, laziness and demanded serious daily output (work done). The German employer doesn’t bullshit around and if you try it, you're quickly FIRED. I did the same in Canada and for some years now, here in the United States of America. No lateness to work, actual daily productivity, exactly one hour lunch break, and clock off on your eighth hour of the day's work.
In Ghana, however, the government (public sector) is the chief or major employer of thousands of unproductive and badly dressed workers, who come to sit idle, talk about football all day, work some Lotto numbers, figure out how to STEAL and engage in many dubious machinations.
I've even heard from some "Deputy Ministers" at the ministries that they go to work daily, but don't have much work to do, because some of the substantive ministers are doggone selfish, arrogant, egoistic, bossy and don't ASSIGN them work to do. They want to do the work all by themselves, so why do we have 2 deputy ministers and a director? What the heck do they do all day, Negro? --ZIP, NOTHING, but they get paid.
Generally, my formed opinion, after several visits to Ghana is that “most of the people & workers in the country have a gargantuan or metaphysically huge behavioral or attitudinal problem” toward work, especially doing their paid jobs. Emphasis should be shifted from the public sector to the private sector, where PRODUCTIVITY is the name of the game. The heavy reliance on the government sector wouldn't get us anywhere—because it hasn't after some 60 years now. Paradigm change is badly needed toward our development!!

If that is right as it were, then the reason is not far fetched. The post independence and aftermath management of the public sector has and is responsible for this. There is no demand for for service and accountability from those who are put in positions of TRUST. The unholy alliances of staff of same minds of malfeasance and corruption has been the underlying factors. One clear thing in Ghana is that all public sector workers are living beyond their means. Where does the difference come from? Those who have assess to money in their work place spends the time for work on planning how they can steal. Those who don't have the assess use the time to plan how to make the extra money from outside the work place. If you add the times they spend on what they contribute to produce the little for the state and the planning for themselves then one will know that our public sector workers are not lazy at all. God will save Ghana. AMEN.
