What are the benefits of being a citizen of any of thee West African states apart from despair and hopelessness? Instead of tackling real problems such as...deforestation,soil degradation,destruction of water bodies by corporate fraudsters,joblessness,hunger,diseases,housing,etc, these bunch "artful thieves" calling themselves politicians can only come out with "airy- fairy" mumbo jumbo which is of no substance to an African peasant.

I am 60 years old. I grew up to see these herdsmen and they have been herding cattle in Ghana long before the time of my grandfather who died 40 years ago. I remember him telling us he once bought a whole cow from one of the Fulani herdsmen. Why are we still treating them as foreigners. These people were here before all of us were born. More than half the Ghanaians abroad have been allowed to naturalize in the countries they live in. Why wouldn't anyone stand up for these poor herdsmen too, instead of allowing the authorities like the Volta Region Chief Executive stoking hate and trying to eradicate these herdsmen of the face of the earth?

This useless and toothless organization is a complete waste of the taxpayer's money, and not worth the publicity the media is giving it. How many declarations and accords have been ratified by ECOWAS since inception, and how many have come to fruition? Who can forget the frantic and haphazard attempt by ECOWAS to create a common currency (the eco) for the region even though many of the member countries could not meet their own conditionalities? Today the eco idea is like a very bad dream that these useless bunch would rather want to forget.

But the most damaging indictment of the uselessness of ECOWAS since inception is its inability to foster trade between member countries. The main purpose of ECOWAS is to foster trade among its 13 (15 members in 2009, with Niger and Ivory Coast withdrawing their membership) member states. But after more than a quarter of a century of its formation, only 11% trade exist among member countries. The ECOWAS membership prefer to trade with their colonial masters (the French and the British) more than among themselves. The organization that was founded in order to achieve "collective self-sufficiency" for its member states by creating a single large trading bloc through an economic and trading union, has for so long lost its bearing that trade among themselves, which is sine qua non, is now a muted idea.

This is an organization that our governments support with budget allocations every year.

In order to make things work all President must ensure that they leave office after two terms in office if votes in and not three terms as many President s seem to think. NDC has been in government for nearly three terms now and it is time for them to leave the scene for a fresh direction for the country. Currently it is a stale mate.

Now If Cameron does the right thing his party can win another 2 or 3 terms.The same applies to Obama"s party in America. Nobody can restrict a party to 2 terms only individuals.
