This is an insult to Ghanaians when we have these old fools spastically spewing idiocies. When did these fools realize human beings cannot force rains to fall?

These idiotic fools have forgotten so soon what they did in 2007 when Akosombo Dam was at its lowest level and load shedding was even just six hours light off and 72 hours light on and these morons were demonstrating against the Npp administration.

This is the same Lee Ocran that stood in Parliament with "Adwe ngo" and told the whole world that the oil discovery by Npp government was a hoax but rather what they found was an "adwe ngo"

Accra, May 29, GNA - The following is the water level of the Akosombo Dam issued by the Volta River Authority on Tuesday, May 29, 2007.

Previous Level (28th May, 2007) - 235.94 feet

Previous Level (29th May, 2007) - 235.92 feet

Maximum Level - 278.00 feet

Minimum Level - 240.00 feet

The current load shedding gives electricity consumers 12 hours off after 24 hours of electricity.

“It is therefore not acceptable that the Minister for Energy claims he was completely unaware of the progressively diminishing inflows into the lake and the rapid reduction in the levels of water in the dam until the level had actually fallen almost 4ft below the design minimum level of 240ft. this is evidence of sheer incompetence,” the General Secretary pointed out, adding that the situation was in contrast to what happened in 1997 under the regime of the NDC.

“In anticipation of the 1998 crisis, the VRA was made to send out a warning to the effect as early as October 31st 1997, when the level in the dam was as high a as 248ft (a whole 8ft above the design minimum of 240).”

Who asked Dr Danaa to take sides in a chieftaincy dispute by solely declaring the chieftaincy status of the Americans illegal. Who sent the National Security Officials to go and harass the Americans. Forget about the gov't owing VRA over Ghc 1 billion cedis, forget about gov't owing ECG almost Ghc 1 billion cedis, forget about Atuabo and Ngas, forget about any power barges from Turkey, because until the rains which the likes of Lee Ocran cannot conjure from the skies come, dumsor is going nowhere.
Now, what Ghanaians need to ask Lee Ocran and his Boss President John Dramani Mahama is where is the money owed the VRA so they can buy crude to power the thermal plants since over half of Ghana's installed capacity for electricity generation is thermal?
Clearly, it is time for the President John Dramani Mahama-led NDC gov't to resign.

I'm dismayed by the quote attributed to Mr. Ocran. It's not only insensitive but also flippant and shows a lack of grasp of his responsibility to our motherland. Yes the water level of the Volta lake is low. And it is true that reduced rainfall has contributed. But is that the full story?
At a time when the world is increasingly dependent on electricity for economic growth, inattention to our power sources cannot be easily dismissed as act of nature.
1. For starters we do not routinely dredge the lake to ensure that the declared height (depth) measures the true water pressure.
2. Our neighbors, Togo, Benin, Cote D'ivoire, Burkina Faso and parts of Nigeria that receive power from Akosombo are not going through the blackouts plaguing Ghana. The explanation that we are contractually obligated by international agreements begs the question. Under exceptional circumstances (as Ghana is going through), all agreements are subject to renegotiation. Otherwise it would be better for the country to pay the relent penalties and abrogate those agreements. A country cannot sacrifice its survival by sacrificing its core interests in the service of its friends, neighbors or allies.
3. The Kpong/Bui projects have reached 'the almost completed' since my secondary school days in the 1970s. How can that be an act of nature? When the rains return whatever efforts being made now will be abandoned till the next crisis.
4.Natural gas is being flared from our oil fields in Ghana and Nigeria. A source of relatively clean energy is being wasted whilst the Brong Ahafo, Northern and parts of northern Ashanti regions are being reduced to grassland but the charcoal business. On the altar of expediency we are sacrificing the future of the next generation. And to what end?
We need to look holistically at our problems and try to solve them systematically. We can’t stop all natural disasters but we certainly can ameliorate its consequences. The VRA board, Ministries of Energy, Finance, Foreign Affairs, Commerce/Economics, Industry, Agriculture (Forestry), among others, need to work together to address the VRA contracts, alternative energy sources, proper maintenance of the Akosombo Dam, recycling/waste conversion into energy, crude oil processing etc. Looked at together we can solve our energy problems with the added benefit of reducing our urban pollution, deforestation, and loss of hard currency through out-sourced crude oil processing and increase employment in the bargain. Without energy Ghana has nowhere to go but downwards. President Mahama, please put together a task force with a well thought out long-term mandate, even beyond your term of office. Public officials that display arrogance and poor judgment need to know that in a democracy there will be a price to pay for insensitivity.

It is very strange that a country like Ghana with all the education we have can be in such a stupid situation of electricity.We all know that the Akosombo dam work by an artificial reservoir and a water fall which drops on the turbines and make them to rotate and generate the electricity that is distributed to a country of 25 million people.
This is not the best way for a country like Ghana.The Ghana government should have a an electricity plant stand by for every region in Ghana.We have 10 regions so in case they is no light from Akosombo those plants could be used as sustitute to generate electricity for each region.This can be done.We have the resources to do this.
The second problem of Ghana is very surprising when it comes to water.Pipes do not run and thus very shameful for a country like Ghana.The water and swerage company management should be called to explain.Ghana is sitting on water how come ordinary pipe does not run at home.We should be ashame of our selves.it is a big shame.There is no sustainability for the country.We are doomed with this kind of leader ship.
