It is only in Ghana would such a dishonorably idiot be on the government pay roll. Professor Mill should be solely blamed for imposing those criminals on us. After Mills found Betty Moulds guilty of judgement debt payments the only thing he could do was to move her to the Education dept to continue her looting. Readers would recall that Betty Mounds was the one who awarded SCHOOL building contracts at a triple price of the existing contract sum of some GH 80,000.00. And this happened at a time when they claim inflation was in the single digits. Could you imargin how foolish these criminal liars were. Kuffour built similar structures with 80,000 at a time when inflation was around 14.8% and under Mills it was 240,000 at a rate of 8.8%. And these buffoons turn around to blame the fall of the cedi on some mysterious dwarfs. I don't blame those African countries that have been ripped apart by civil unrest because if you have such buffoons in power who always turn our local elections into a West Africa one
by contracting Togolese Trokosis, Burkinabe and Wangaras from La Cote D'ivoire to vote for them, the " Road To Kigare", is sometimes, a likely option to kick their ass from power.

This is NDC legacy. And where did Rawlings' children go for university education, abroad isn't it? John Mahama is following suit, just as well as Asiedu Nketia, and fools keep voting for them, whilst their children's future is thrashed and degraded. Come to think of it who in his right mind put absolute idiots like Okudzeto Ablakwa in Education ministry, to do what I dare say, besides warming shares and engaging in propaganda? Hundreds of those students he is ministering are way smarter than him.

It is a disgrace that we have moved from one of the best educational systems to the very bottom of the worst. But I think part of this was started by Kuffour, and NDC did not do anything to better things. We should have continued with the O-level and A-level, and not have changed to JSS and SS system.
But then our leaders always choose the change or project that would give them the most kick-back and not what benefits the country. I agree that all our leaders send their children outside so they don't care

Lee Kuan Yew, founder of modern Singapore, dies at 91
NKrumah's strategy worked in Singapore.
As Ghanaians We should be ashamed of ourselves for overthrowing Nkrumah and now finding ourselves in these humiliating conditons. Ghana, a country rich in mineral resources with rich and fertile land mass importing food from outside, and always begging for financial handout because the citizenry is not trained scientifically for self development.
Nkrumah's experimentation with scientific socialism, and his deep interest
in science and engineering, was what could have propelled Ghana to have become
one of the world's richest nations.
Everything Nkrumah did was not right but everything he did was to increase the living
standards of his fellow Ghanaians. He was human.
It is not dictatorship that doesn't work, it is lack of vision, mismanagement and corruption that ruin nations. Nkrumah had vision.
Be aware that China is still a communist country today but has the second largest economy with the highest number of engineers in the world. It is free with good financial management. Lots of Africans are going there to seek greener pastures because of the scarcity of opportunities in their home countries.
SINGAPORE (AP) — Lee Kuan Yew, who founded modern Singapore and was both feared for his authoritarian tactics and admired for turning the city-state into one of the world's richest nations, died Monday, the government said. He was 91.
Singapore a country with few natural resources.
He faced criticism, though, for using tough tactics to consolidate power. He jailed some political rivals without trial for decades and brought defamation lawsuits against journalists and opposition politicians, which had a chilling effect on dissent. Lee insisted that strict limits on free speech and public protest were necessary to maintain stability in a multiethnic and multi-religious country that witnessed race riots in the 1960s. That stability, he added, was needed to enable growth and raise living standards in a country with few natural resources.
"I had to do some nasty things, locking fellows up without trial," Lee said in an interview with The New York Times published in September 2010. "I'm not saying everything I did was right. But everything I did was for an honorable purpose."
Lee, whose People's Action Party has ruled Singapore since 1959, remained a powerful adviser with Cabinet minister status after stepping down as prime minister, and many Singaporeans, particularly older ones, viewed him as a wise, if strict, father figure.

I almost vomited there reading your praises of Nkrumah.
Anyway, I have better things to do so I will not be back on Ghanaweb for another year or so. If we want to get stuck in the past or follow failed leadership rather than move into the 21st century, then we should be open to accept the poor leadership we deserve and the resulting crumbling infrastructure and social decay.

We need a new way of thinking and new leadership

NDC led by Rawlings have destroyed Ghana and dismembered Ghana completely. It takes honest and godly people more than twenty years to rebuild Ghana.
Notorious NDC has intentionally done this to our education. They want their corrupt sons and daughters to continue misruling Ghanawhile majority od Ghanaians live in abject poverty and uneducated. Don't you what stupid Felex Ofosu Kwakye is doing? Whose steps is this nasty corrupt guy following? His corrupt dady called Totobi Kwakye. Very soon you will Rawlings children in politics, who will claim ownership of corrupt NDC.
It is time Ghanaians wake up and see how NDC with its Ewes destroying Ghana. Why should NPP or any other political party shares the blames of notorious , dubious and corruption of P/NDC? How long has NDC misruled Ghana? N otrious NDC has misruled Ghana for more than thirty years. NPP has just governed our nation just eight years. In a sense, NDC party has been formulating educational policies in Ghana. When there is a failure in our educational policies, why should any party share with your corrupt NDC Party?
You see why you are a miscreant You don't believe truth, except what your corrupt NDC officials will tell you. Don't see that Ghana is plunging down the hills because of NDC misrule?
Every problem Ghanaians are facing is solely blamed on your corrupt NDC officials, whose understanding of government is to steal and loot state treasury. Their children are abroad enjoying better schools some good people have built over there.
Mr. miscreant, why do you blindly support this corrupt party?
It is me and you, our brothers and sisters, relatives who can not afford to send our children to attend school abroad are the victims. NDC has no good plan for Ghana. The elements in NDC are unpatriotic and unghanaian.
Any time there is bad thing in Ghana, NDC tries to make NPP also to be blamed. The only solution to this endemic problems NDC party has created for us in Ghana is to throw them out of power. We should vote for these miscreants to continue to destroy Ghana.. NDC officials are notorious, dubious and corrupt in character. That is NDC (Notorious, Dubious and Corrupt) in character.

I had my basic schooling in Ghana under Rawlings and did O-level then A-level exams. Now, I think Rawlings is a disgrace and a failure, but Kuffour could, and should have at least begin to reverse the damage that Rawlings started but he did not.

Let me tell you the truth. It is only notorious NDC Party that has failed Ghana. Why do you have to say that both parties have failed us. If you are not part of NDC looting and stealing machine, you wouldn't have made such a stupid comment.
The eight year period of NPP regime headed by President Kuffour was far better than the more than thirty years your notorious NDC has misruled Ghana.
Why should we blame both parties. NPP just had eight years to govern Ghana. Your P/NDC has misruled Ghana more than thirty years. Did you do proportion as arithmatics in your school? I am sure you were a baby when Preisent Kuffour was president in Ghana.
Ghana's problems and the blame is solely on NDC. Are you in Ghana, Mr. Black Hero? Why do you think Woyome was paid by your NDC government while he had not been given any contract nor on government payroll. That is the way your NDC used to steal from our treasury. Who sold Nsawam factory to your Rawlings and his family? Don't you hear how NDC has duped this nation?
NDC has used dubious means to entreanched itself in power and the party officials have stolen and looted everything in Ghana. And you want NPP to be blamed for sins NDC has committed?
From 1981 since P/NDC stole power to 2015 is 34 years. In this 34 years, NPP has governed our nation for just eight years, and it was better. Your NDC has constantly been in power for 26 years. For this 26 years, NDC is in control of educational policies. If we have the worst system and performance, who should we blame?

Look, out of the 193 countries that are members of the UN only 76 presented or had availabe data. Ghana has managed to supply data, other countries are not in a position to deliver any data at all. That in itself is Okay.
On the African continent only 5 countries could present any statistics to this effect. We don't have to be complacent but work hard to climb further. For education is the key to 21st century knowledge economy and Ghana must put education and health first as Kwame Nkrumah did.

Not too bad in terms of Africa though we could still do better. It is not surprising. Ghana's placement on the world ranking is still a plus since many other countries are not even listed.

However, should the standard of education in Ghana be compared with that of Bourkina or Togo or Mali, without any disrespect to them? How about measuring ourselves against the Singapores, Hong Kongs and South Koreas of this world.?

Okujeto ablakwa is a minister in the education ministry and you expect something better? Then dead goat, a carcase leading the country and his spokesman is sam George. This are the new landmarks for the brainless NDC people to use for the campaign. Every day building sohools buildings which are all scam!. Now we are seeing the results of the numerous school buidings put up by dead goat and okujeto ablakwah. Then sam George comes out to say we should respect the presidency, for what? We should rather be called upon to go and shit in the presidency under mahama.

Of course, Ghana has the economic potential but the country cannot achieve economic growth and sustainable socio-economic development with dysfunctional education system, pupils/students learning "under trees", clueless and mediocre people as Government ministers, and lack of investment in school infrastructure and academic materials.

Those critics of the Mahama administration mostly cannot wait to assign negative reporting on Ghana to it; they ought to have some common sense at times to question their own idiotic blame game exercises. Ghana's schools were never completely housed in structures fit for humans at any level in our education system. In fact there are still today schools organized under trees in some villages a fact that should give pause to the critics.
In colder northern and or southern hemispheres where heating from the sun is known to last less than 12-hours a day they have temperature control systems for their schools. Which of the Ghana classrooms do we have A/C's in classrooms or lecture rooms/halls? How many K12 schools, by percentage, do have indoor plumbing facilities and how many do have things as simple as doors and windows? Blaming the Mahama administration does not take effort; any fool can do so without thinking.
It takes people with brains of the logical, principled and honest kind to separate the bull from facts. Ghana does not fare well on most indicators because we have allowed tribal loyalties to become constraints on our thinking and given politicians the power to engage in tribal baiting and lies while they rape the nation of its mineral and natural resources. We are bound to pay a price for our collective failure to be vigilant and principled.

All those making the noise about NDC. i want you to know that the data used for the analysis is not from Mahamah's regime. why are you always happy to hear bad news concerning the country to that you could blame the president. your so called NPP brought lots of changes to negative reforms to the educational system in their time. read educational reforms before opening your mouth to vomit poison. if you think pepeni is not fit to be president because he has no brain to learn, then be rest assured that you yourself cannot even be a community leader because most of you don not even have genuine certificates-gotten them out of corruption. there is nothing you can do to Mahama because i think he is the right leader of our time: a leader who's concern about long term goals at the expends of maintaining his position. the problem in ghana is not the president, but the mentality of some of you. free yourselves from deceit and blame game party leaders. the NPP is not God neither are they pure in heart as you claim. the whole world is experiencing recession and not only Ghana.

Yes we deserve to be at the bottom course over the years we have played politics with the education system in the country. At a point n time we were the best in english among the commonwealth countries. Recently we had many african nations and foreigners coming to Ghana for education Manny years ago English was the only language one could speak in our schools and got punished when you spoke local language .Some years back it GBC who only gave us news in English and later would give us in local language version but of late the mushroom of about 500 FM and TV stations who give news in Akan special ly TWI have worsened the level most Ghanaians reading and speaking English to the extent that students are lazy to read and speak English , most of these so presenters and broadcasters are jokers and prefer to give news in two hence contributing to most Ghanaians being lazy to read English books and have the habit to speak.Kobila Dwomo may he rest in perfect peace were to present in twi like what's currently in most FM stations he would not have been able to work in BBC .L's high time we read and speak the English in schools ,broadcast in English and improve the quality of our education in the country.UK makes billions of pounds from its colleges and universities so why can't Ghana copy them to attract foreign students and earn some money.

The only thing the report mentioned on methodology was high maths. and science test scores. Obviously we know in Ghana our teachers are very mean with mark allocation and so a score of 60% in an exams may be 80% in another country. We also need to see how the mark was allocated and not just presenting a finding without the whole research work for abled mind to make their own decision.
One time I met a prof. from Columbia university in the U.S.A an Ivy league school who was wondering how Ghanaians seems to have very low scores on their transcripts but then do very well and are so very well mannered . I guess most people will tell you they have experienced that before
Moreover the research work has to be a representative of the nation and so if you take a country like the USA they are not going to do well because there is so much disparity( rich neighbourhood schools vrs poor neighbourhood schools) a hallmark of capitalism whereas in Europe the disparity is going to be minimal because the standards are more uniform.

About 6 years or so ago we were talking about the mismanagement under Kuffour on Ghanaweb and I made the point then that NDC were no better. I am consistent in saying that Ghana has been failed by ALL our leaders so far, with no exception at all. So please do not box me in with NDC. I am not political. When I say both 2 main parties are to blame I mean it. You may think one party is more to blame than the other but you cannot deny that when NPP had the chance they blew it. Our politicians take Ghana for granted. They think we do not know better but it is time to call a spade a spade and say ALL our leaders have failed us. They have to change

Ghanaians and Africans are running away from education in sciences, math, and technology. We facing dumsor problems which will take hundreds of years before we can produce our own plant or equipment that can produce energy. The graduates are packed in arts and business especially in journalism and politics which have turned them into talkative, whiner, and crooks. When students fail in math and science, the next thing, the student enters into non-science and technology education. Folks, we have a long way to go.

Most of the other countries are either in the "Developed world". Even the UK which is viewed as the country with very excellent educational standing over the years could only manage 20th. Saudi Arabia with all its oil money could only place 66 and the "great USA was 28th.
Please, could We be a bit more careful when we read all these publications and take them to heart.
We are not in competition with any other country but we should be concerned about the type of curricula we run in our schools.
National development is directly related to what our children are taught, why they are taught those subjects and how they relate to our nation's developmental requirements.
Trying to compare the quality of Ghana's educational with a country like Singapore is a joke. Singapore like South Korea worked out their educational systems aimed at national development while in Ghana, our educational system is based on attaining educational qualifications which sometimes bare little sympathy with our national developmental needs.
It is no surprise to some of us at all because since independence, we have done everything but relate the curricula to our nation's developmental needs.
This is a wake up call.
God bless Ghana our father land!

Ghanaians have become so shallow and tribal minded that they can't even see when one regime is systematically destroying the country from NHIS, to JSS/SSS education system, school feeding programs. Ruling Ghana for the spoils is all the NDC is interested in, while they ship their children overseas. The Minister of Education obviously has been so hypocritical you wonder if she has anything left in her head. When 70 percent of children in JSS cannot do simple reading, you are defending the indefensible of our massive education failure. Fools rule Ghana.

How did they arrive at the number of countries? And what criteria used? Why 76 and not 50 or 80 or 100. The number sould have been a multiple of 10. This deliberate to discredit Ghana.
